It's definitely worth checking out.

Fillion fans and mystery fans should be equally pleased. This isn'tjust another police procedural. You'd think something without flashyspecial effects and sophisticated forensics would fall flat, but thecharacters are solid and the chemistry between Katic and Fillion works. It's even got a little Remington Steele style friendly rivalry goingfor it.It's definitely worth checking out. Don't base your opinion on thefirst promo that came out in December, which featured a little too muchcute, but on the fact that it's into the 3rd episode and it's stillgiving us nice meaty revelations into each character. You'll want tosee where these people will take you next.I've been a Fillionaire for many years, and it's really great to seehim play a role where he gets to showcase some different emotionalvocabulary. His genius lay in the fact that he's always believable. Hecan sell and play all sorts or character traits and and jack them intoone role, convincingly. His layered performance gives true depth, evento a shallow guy like Rick Castle. I wish I could say that the show wasriding on his shoulders, but I have to give credit to Katic, Quinn, andSullivan who all hold up their ends too.The only reason that the show doesn't get a 10 is that the scriptscould be a little tighter, so sometimes the pacing feels off. I thinkthe style is dead on, though and the dialogue varies from good togreat. Quinn and Sullivan have been challenged with awkward bits ofcharacter development, that I hope will disappear. It's early in theshow's life to be so harsh, though. Remember how contrived the firstepisodes of Gilmore Girls felt? I think this show could warm up to ahot simmer.Bravo! I'll keep watching.

Refreshing, Different.....

As a veteran reviewer and critic of the crime genre of TV shows, Iwould like to say that this show stands out. The reason is not itstwists in plots, nor the felonies, but how the shows integrateselements of crime, drama and humor. A few incidents of slapstick comedyis present in almost all TV shows, but in Castle, although it is of thecrime genre, this element of crime is pervasive. Its brilliant starcast and the portrayal of characters is exemplary due to thecharacterization of all these actors through what they say about othersand what others say about them. Nathan Fillion of "Firefly" and"Serenity" and Stana Katic of "For lovers only" repute have taken ontheir personas as Richard Castle and Kate Beckett completely. I believethis show is a new chapter in TV shows as shows which are filled withelements of one genre just cannot hold viewer attention. This show, asI had mentioned earlier, both entertains and makes a viewer think withHolmes-esque aspects to it. My verdict is that it is a brilliant showand will entertain its viewers for years to come.

Excellent show

Sometimes you stumble upon a show that is beyond amazing and completelyabsorbs you. I am glad to say that "Castle" is one of these shows. Igot hooked from the very first episode and just can't stop watching"Castle".As a murder is seemingly drawn inspiration from the best-selling authorRick Castle's work, he gets called upon by the NYPD to help with thecase. And, after meeting homicide detective Kate Beckett and helpingher solve the case, Rick, a friend to the mayor of New York, getspermission to join the squad for research for his next novel. From thenon it's a big, fun ride. The best thing about the show is the chemistry between the ensemble. The actors are perfectly cast and click amazingly. Two leads are NathanFillion who plays Castle and Stana Katic who plays Kate Beckett.Honestly, the show is worth watching just because of these two. Theyare just mesmerizing. My personal favorite aspect is when Castle andBeckett get into case and talk successively figuring it out and whenthey come to conclusion they burst it out together. So much chemistry, their characters come alive and have a real, believable relationshipwith it's ups and downs and you just can't get enough of them. Katic isabsolutely dazzling, both with her acting and stunningly good looks. The second great partnership is the one of detectives Ryan andEsposito. They are awesome in their own element and always seem to havea nice banter going on which expresses in the dialogue. Othersupporting cast, such as the actresses who play Castles daughter Alexisand his mother Martha, are excellent as well. The script is very well written and interesting, the crimes have manyu-turns and twists. Dialogue is smart and funny and gives "Castle"great soul and vibe. Cameos of different authors and actors areinteresting and enrich the show. Soundtrack is great, it consists ofsome of the classics and some of just smoothing and stylish songs. All in all, "Castle" is a splendid show and i am very much lookingforward to what happens in the new (fifth) season. Just the sight ofchemistry between Fillion and Katic is a reason enough to wait on anedge. My favorite show, i dare to say.

"castle" became "Beckett" since 2nd season, what a pity

I am really get bored of seeing Castle as "Becket".Stana Katic wantedto be castle by her improper, exaggerating, unnatural,BAD(for all whoreally know how to act),I'm doing this for doing this movements, actsand looks(unbelievable),higher voice than others to get attention andbe remembered more by audiences in the end.a speaking imitating theleading actor's since the beginning.then she succeed to get it,scenariobecame her toy.every replica based on her castle is just at theback. She can do like castle scenario, unbelievable…That player madeherself got the leading role by her exaggerating playing.absurd.castlecharacter became her character's poppy .the other detective serialsmade the leading character name deserve that position not on castlebecause of the scenario.Beckett shows herself each dialog eachsecond.her voice, her face, her "I am trying to do this role" movementsmimics.terrible.I am not talking as a fun because I am not just someonewho really knows to criticize TV productions because of myeducation.this actress even badly effects the performance of the othergood ones.Kate Beckett will be named as one of the "bad playing"evidents of the world.unfortunately Stana Katic is not even an actressto be on a good show (not about her real personality only about hertalent and will).so pity for good actors and actresses on the showbecause it was good on theory but not on practice.good idea, good NathanFillion,Susan Sullivan,Molly Quinn,Seamus Dever,Ruben Hudson,TamalaJones acting (these are all good on real acting),good team but a badwriting and a bad actress Stana Katic.sorry.it is just liked by teensor soap opera funs or feminists now.also writers got concepts from allthings so they forgot the main idea and main originality of its own.itbecame everything but nothing.I really wouldn't want it to change butsince the 2nd season it still is.

Entertaining Procedural That knows When to switch things up

I'm not a huge fan of procedurals, having only ever gotten into a fewlike House and Bones. I only recently started to watch the show and Iadmit the only reason I watched Castle was because I love NathanFillion. The first season was fine and I found it enjoyable but inseason 2 the show hit it's stride. The choice to create a story arc that spans multiple seasons as well asepisodes, like the bomb episodes or the episode with Beckett's"stalker" are inspired as they keep the show from getting two boggeddown in it's own formula. They also tend to be very heavy and darkwhich means that when we return to our standard formula episode it iswelcome and all the more enjoyable for it. Sure the show is not very realistic and there are times when, for thesake of drama, comedy, or character development the cops act like nocops ever would EVER. But chill out, it's a TV show and a damnenjoyable one. Take it from a guy who mostly only gets into extremelyepisodic shows like Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, or Sons of Anarchy,This is a network procedural that is genuinely worth your time, particularly as the storytelling gets tighter in the latter seasons.

Very Entertaining!

Of late I have started watching the TV shows and fond Castle to be moreentertaining. The chemistry between Rick and Beckett is the one weshould watch for. The concept which lured me was the fact that onedescribes the crime scene in an imaginative way and the other withlogic/facts. I like the other detectives Espositto and Ryan too, theyadd the sarcasm & wit all through their presence. I thought it wouldhave been nice if there was more romantic scenes between the leadcharacters . One other thing I liked about the show is the relationshipbetween father and daughter. The scenes between them are quite cute andtastefully done. Of all the characters I like the protagonist Rick roleand give him my vote, he is natural and carries it with panache. ThoughBeckett character actually compliments his role, he steals the thunder.I give the entire show a 8.

The Fillion Show

I'll hazard a guess and say that most of those whose interest was firstpiqued in Castle were already fans of Nathan Fillion. I know I was. Ihad first followed him from the ultimately doomed, yet wildly popularFirefly into the ill-fated Drive. But here is how Castle will succeedwhere Drive did not: chemistry. Castle allows Fillion to pour out allhis on-screen charm, plus his characterization is much closer to theMalcolm we first knew and loved. After all, why mess with a good thing? So, how does the show stand up in its own right? Well, we've been herebefore, several times. TV is saturated with crime shows from everyperspective possible with pairings of main characters ranging from themundane to the outrageous. This particular series strongly resemblesUSA's Psych, though Castle has a touch more gravity (Just a touch, though). And it is very funny: an odd mix of irreverence and humor onone hand with tenderness and heartstrings on the other. As far as the casting, the supporting people do their job well enough.I am still waiting for something that will totally sell me on DetectiveBeckett. I feel its coming, but I am not completely won on hercharacter yet. The police force does the basic job of setting uppunchlines and plot lines, but I wouldn't miss or notice if one didn'tappear in the next episode. The grandmother is hit-or-miss, but MollyQuinn stands out in the crowd as the level-headed daughter.Overall, its a good series. Not the greatest ever, but definitely worththe effort of keeping up with it. However, the driving force that setsit apart from every other show rests squarely on Fillion's ableshoulders. Were he not Castle, I probably wouldn't bother.

A fun way to unwind on a Monday night

This show isn't going to redefine television or anything, but it's nottrying to. It's a fun show to just kick back and enjoy after the firstworkday of the week.Nathan Fillon is excellent as Castle - cocky and impish, but humanizedand grounded by his relationships with his family members, especiallyin his "Gilmore Girls"-ish relationship with his daughter, Alexis.Stana Katic's Kate Beckett is tough and a funny straight-man (or woman,as the case may be. What I really like is that, unlike other comparableshows such as "The Mentalist" and "Psych", Castle and Beckett have moreof an equal partnership: Castle's got good ideas but he's not alwaysright and Beckett doesn't fall into the traps of simply tagging alongwhile Castle figures everything out or refusing to see it when Castlehas a point - she'll listen when he's got something good to say but shedoesn't need him to do her job. This could have been another cookie-cutter procedural, but escapes thatthrough its charming cast and by choosing to play with the clichés ofthe genre without giving in to them. I hope it survives.

ABC knows how to market

Although this show seems to be ridden with ABC sponsorships and thelike, it shouldn't be underestimated. The acting from the entire cast is balanced and perfected and as muchas I'd like to share my personal favorites, I can't seem to list only afew. Honestly, the entire main cast is perfection for a show like this.Castle is a comedic look at drama, conspiracy, and murder, but it'salso serious when it needs to be.There are merchandise tie-ins such as two (and soon to be a third)novels by the fictional character Castle, as well as a soon to bereleased hardcover graphic novel of Derek Storm, which allows for us toenjoy Castle on and off the small screen.Castle is a show you will not likely forget any time soon, so startindulging in some of television's finest quality.

This is so bad it hurts!

I am utterly shocked to see the positive response generated by thingshow among viewers. For the trained eye of a true fan of the genre, this is at most terrible! Details wrong, facts taken straight from thered riding hood story. This is merely a child's play and nothing more!Parents who don't even flinch when they receive notice about theirchildren's death, sociopaths with the personality complexity of theboogie man. I barely barely made it through the first 3 episodes and the onlyreason I watched three of them is to see if it is indeed this bad allthe time. Well, as they say, give the audience what they want, but ifthis is what the audience wants, then the educational system is acomplete and utter failure. The entire "Castle" story can barely bebought by a child. How, how on God's green Earth does this piece of.... have a constant audience?

Firefly to Castle

What a great show. I had often wondered why Nathan Fillion was not alead character in something after the spectacular Firefly. Even thoughFirefly did not last long, his portrayal of Malcolm Reynolds was thebest part of one of the greatest shows this decade. Now comes Castle.Fillion is marvelous as Rick Castle. Fillion brings a presence to theshow that is refreshing with a mix of charm, intelligence, and humor.Castle is a great role that is comparable to the work he had done withMal Reynolds. Stana Katic is the perfect match for Fillion. Hercharacter is not too gruff that it is unbelievable, she does not looklike the standard dumb Hollywood type that you know could not solvecrimes, and she brings a nice touch to the role. Castle is a reallygood show that I hope improves with age.

An excellent series

Well once again we have an excellent series on televisions. Let's hopethat the suits can pay enough attention and not let this one die andearly death as well. I am normally not one for cop shows or mysteriesbut the chemistry between Fillion and Katic is very good. I even try tofigure out whodunnit during the show. I have to admit I haven't beensurprised by the twists very often but that doesn't really matter.Nathan Fillion is a total rogue. Had Star Wars been made in thiscentury he would have been an excellent Han Solo. Katic is attractivewithout being unbelievable and a good hard foil to his rakishness. Itis nice to see a single father portrayed as a good and responsible dadand his mother is an absolute hoot. I am looking forward to several (ifnot more) season of this show but I am sure that it will go the way ofPushing Daisies, Firefly and the Dresden files as a show that I reallylike which can't survive because it is not a reality based piece ofjunk. After all we must always write for the trailer trash publicrather than the intelligent since they can always go read a book.

Nathan Fillion rocks!

In my opinion Nathan Fillion is one of the most underrated actors inHollywood. He has enough charisma to carry any show, even a theatricalmovie, he has a very wide range in his acting and he always deliverswith precision. Castle is a very enjoyable show, mainly due to thechemistry between the leads, but also because of Fillionslightheartedness and great sense of humor. For me the stories are alittle to alike, we have a homicide, we continue interviewing suspects, but conclude every time that they could not have done it. Then we findthe final clue and frame - the gardener. What I really, really love, are the Firefly references in the show, they always make me smile -when Castle shows up in a brown coat for Halloween or explains that helearned his Chinese skills in a TV show he really likes.

Brilliant humour, Fillion owns it!

I love this show, I love the story lines to each episode and just thedown right cheesy and wonderfully ridiculous humour! I don't know why so many people on IMBb are slatting this show, yesit's silly and at some points it's way to good to be believable, but ifyou really get into it, you get to learn the life of each character, and I don't just mean Beckett's troubled past.Every character has a lot to offer, Ryan, Esposito and Castle alwaysleave me laughing. I absolutely love Castle's Mother Martha and hisdaughter Alexis (who I can relate to, as she struggles to decide herfuture, with universities etc) who have him wrapped around therefingers. Oh how I wish I had a laser tag tournament with my dad. :( At the end of each series, the show does make it's way back to Kate'spast and the death of her mother, it may seem like it's dragging out,but It is believable. 'A women gets fixated on the death of her motherthat she becomes a detective in the Twelfth Precinct Homicide Squad,(yeah I've done my research) She is determined to know who was behindthe death of her mother and why' So much so that it is taking over herlife, that she fails to see whats in front of her.Nathan Fillion is terrific, I couldn't think of anyone better to playthis role but him. So...Richard Castle, a famous mystery writer who isdetermined to shadow Beckett's every move, to make her a character in aseries of novels named Nikki Heat, but like most relations, Castleget's too close (the flirting and sexual tension in brilliant) andstarts to fall for Beckett, and has this way of wanting to help her andprotect her and vice versa.Although the show has it's humour they don't over do it, (ok maybe theydo, but it's a good laugh) it's there when the time is right, the joke, gags and phrases work well in the story lines. 'Shut the front door!'Not to forget that here are many serious, and teary moments that reallymakes you love the show and it's actors. I can't get enough of it!'Feed the bird' :)

Creative, Witty, and Nathan Fillion

I just finished watching the first showing and I am very pleased.Others and I have been starving for more Nathan Fillion ever sinceFirefly. It seems he has finally landed a lead role, which he has sodefinitely earned, in an interesting looking series. At this juncture,I don't have many predictions for the series which is a rarity thesedays and I think that it will be fun watching Castle and detectiveBeckett's relationship grow. The writing was quite creative even thoughit sometimes felt like they were rushing things. I think its possiblethat they could have made this first episode last another week or two, however, at the same time, its fast pace leaves no time wasted. I foundmyself sprinting into the kitchen for munchies and racing back in hopesof not missing any of the action. I will definitely be watching thisnext week :)

Amazing show! Haven't missed an episode!

First of all, to the people who say this show has no depth or premise, you clearly don't understand the art of subtext. Castle does awonderful job of showing instead of telling. If you don't payattention, you miss the subtle looks and words. The actors have thisway of using their facial expressions to speak volumes, and that alongwith the writing/direction says so much more than using hacky, obviousdialogue. I don't need Beckett to go to someone and say, "I'm in lovewith Castle, but I'm conflicted about my feelings," because everythingshe does says it all. Don't those love eyeballs she shoots at him atjust the right time mean something? Or how about how flustered she actswhen someone like Lanie encourages her to make a move? Now, for thosewho didn't make it past season 1, you may not see this growth in her,or the growth in Castle for that matter. But there are no staticprinciple characters on this show; everyone has changed, and you cansee how they've changed. That's one of the reasons I appreciate thisshow. I agree, it may be far fetched at times and zany, but that's whatmakes it great. You've got these characters put into bizarre andintense situations, and they actually learn something from it. And asthe seasons go on, there is more intensity and more breakage from thenorm; I certainly don't see the same thing every week. Maybe back inseason 1, when Castle was just supposed to be a procedural. But we'vedelved much deeper into the characters and the storytelling since then, and it's become so much more. It's a show to truly invest in, and Iwill continue watching it until the last episode airs.

Good Dynamic between the characters

While the plots may be a bit contrived, the main effort is the dialogand tension between the two main characters, i.e. the Writer and theDetective. This is a reminder of Gable and Russel, or any number of1930's great couples in the movies when the lack of color images waslacking but the colorful dialog was what made the movies worthwatching. It's called Chemistry and these characters are definitelyfull of it. Now this week with Beckett turning the tables on Castle we arebeginning a turn in the energy dynamic. Can't wait to see where thewriters go with this one

Great Show

CASTLE is one of the best TV shows among the few shows I have everseen. I started watching it because of Nathan Fillion.I know him from the show "FIREFLY" and the movie "SERENITY" and he hasdone a great job in this too. This show is different from other crime shows. The chemistry between the lead characters is awesome. Story of mostepisodes is cheesy but its still fun because all the actors have done agreat job.Nathan Fillion looks a little old in season 2, I don't know why.He should work out a little for the next season. I recommend it toanyone who don't like to get bored watching a show.

Started off good

I saw the pilot and became interested in it. But, it does seem likeit's getting stupid. I feel that it's going downhill fast with everynew episode.Like in the latest episode, Beckett shows up at a readingwearing a short, short red dress and high heels, and NONE NOTICES,except Castle. "How do you like it when someone is looking over yourshoulder when you're working."(or something like that) Gimme a break! I do like Susan Sullivan's character and also the interaction betweenCastle and his daughter. A very caring individual considering that heis supposed to be some kind of womanizing, party animal. This is definitely a 'chick series'. I find no problem with that. However, in the episode Nanny McDead, we get the obligatory diatribethat if the guy wasn't such a 'scumbag', ie. cheating on his wife andfooling around with the babysitters, the murder would never havehappened in the first place. But, then, they wouldn't have had astoryline.I'll keep watching the show even though I know what will eventuallyhappen. However, I'd rather see the chemistry between Mal and Inara.
