RGV's old movie + remake/update = RGV's new movieThis one is an atrocious version of a decent movie 'Shagird'. Based ongang wars, Ram Gopal Verma comes up with another story.Full of spoilers, so you can save your time..Sanjay aka Bhosle is a cop known to assassinate the underworld on dutybut is not allowed to do so officially, so he with Rana Daggubati akaShivnarayan forms an internal cop department. Then we see Vijay Raaz asone of the gangsters and Madhu Shalini under him who manipulates hisguy to fight against Vijay and form their own gang. Meet AB, a gangsterturned politician who manipulates the entire system. Rana chooses to beunder AB and Sanjay chooses Gauri (another gangster which is never tobe seen). Ab manipulates Rana well and makes him believe Sanjay isagainst him and Rana goes ahead to eliminate him. The last scene lookspromising when Gauri calls and Rana sitting near AB says I look forwardto join you ! This is where you get reminded of Shagird.Sanjay Dutt looks impassionate, AB's a powerful politician, MadhuShalini impresses but its Rana Daggubati who steals the show in thisone. Rest of the characters need not be mentioned.Looks like RGV is totally out of stories, remakes and updates is all hehas left. Not recommended. |

Average!Ram Gopal Varma. A Prolific, Marverick, Celebrated Storyteller, who hasdelivered brilliant films such as 'Company', 'Satya', 'Rangeela','Bhoot', 'Rakht Charitra 1', to name a few. However, his work lately, hasn't been up-to the mark.RGV, in my opinion, is amongst the most talented storytellers around, however, his recent films have failed to gain much attention. Andunfortunately, 'Department' too fails to leave a lasting impact. Itsstrictly an average fare, that could've been so much more! 'Department' Synopsis: Two cops joins hands to free the city of Mumbaifrom underworld.'Department' has a winning first-hour, but a losing second. The WritingMaterial falls in the latter hour & doesn't leave an impact. NileshGirkar's Screenplay is interesting in the first-hour, but falls lateron. RGV's has attempted "Rouge Filmmaking" with 'Department' & he seemsto know what he's doing. Cinematography is abstract. Editing is fair.Performance-Wise: Amitabh Bachchan hams. His performance stands outlike a sore thumb. Sanjay Dutt is as usual. Rana Daggupati does verywell, his performance definitely deserves praise. Vijay Raaz &Abhimanyu Singh are pretty menacing, while Anjana Sukhani is verysincere. Deepak Tijori is under-utilized.On the whole, 'Department' could've been so much more! |

Loosely Produced MovieRGV is a force to reckon in Hindi movies, but this movie is a bummer, the likes of 'Darna Mana Hai" from his Camp. The script is bad andloose. The worst camera work of any movie. If the directors idea is toconvey the thinking process or a controversy, you do that with thescript, not the vertigo generating and going in circle camera work asin the Hospital scene. The action which seems to come at a regularinterval is expected in a picture dealing with underworld, but the itemdances also seem to come at a regular interval, with Sanjay Dutt'scharacter, avraciously indulging in the dancing to the underworldtunes! Amitab Bachchan, looks aged, and for an actor of his caliber, this part is a cheescake. There is nothing in this movie that has astamp of the famous RGV banner. It is too drawn out with repetitous andboring conversations. Not worth the expectation and cleardisapppintment. The camera guy should find a day job for the sake ofthe Industry. |

Good for nothing. This is the worst movie ever made in Indian film history. It is anamalgam of awful screenplay, horrible direction and poor action action.Nothing is even close to good.It is better not to watch the movie. I donot know why Ram Gopal Varma keep making lousy movies. I went to themovie not expecting much fun but to just pass the time . But the movieis so bad that i came back with a headache. If you want to make a goodmovie, focus on the story, on speeches, on the intellect, on actualacting instead of crappy action I can see for free on a TV series Myrating for this movie is 0.P.S. I think the people who rate this filmmore than a 5 either haven't watched the other Underworld films, werepaid-off, or are insane. It just doesn't deserve anything more than apass. |

Lost respect for commercial filmsI fail to understand why the Indian Cinema produces films that arecompletely worthless. To begin with the film had a star cast rangingfrom Big B to Sanju Baba & the direction was managed by none other thanRG Verma. Seriously RGV what was going on in that brain of yours? Theactors failed to deliver a good performance, the direction wasextremely poor & I was unable to figure out where to movie was headed. All the scenes seemed to be shot by an amateur camera crew and therewas a repetition of the same camera angle over & over again. If you areplanning to watch this film it is my duty to stop you. Overall thismovie does not even deserve a 1/10. It is simply awful. |

Really not that bad! This movie was way shot down by media, review websites and people ingeneral. I agree there are few creepy/weird scenes in the movie...butthe movie overall isn't a bad one if you enjoy RGV style action films. That being said, it doesn't have any repeat value but makes a decentone time watch. The performances were good and the music had typicalHollywood flavor to it. The movie camera angles of course were weirdknowing RGV. Overall:pros: nice action sequences, performances, music, some creative cameraanglescons: slow screenplay, no story, shoddy direction.my review 6.5/10 |

Headache! Stay away!!!I can not write a review on the whole movie, since it was so patheticthat I cant watch it for more than half and hour. The worse thing werethe camera angles, it seems like if a kid have never handled the camerabefore is shooting the movie for the fun. It would have been a completetorture if I had to watch the whole movie. I am big fan of Amitabh B.and Sanjay Dutt but this movie was unbearable! This movie is: Patheticand Crap. Ram gopal Verma have some real guts to repeat it again afterthe so called'' Ramu ki Aag' and Amitabh should be given an equalcredit for signing this. By far the This is the worst movie ever madein Indian film history. Stay away!!! |

Rogue filmmaking'Rogue filmmaking'- From inside the tea cups and outside of thenostrils, getting tossed as Carrom on the broad or plunging cameraacross the beach as a ball, requires RGV's creativity although it was acomplete distraction in some sequences But But you cannot ignore thecreativity and the challenges put through . For some this is a realpleasure to watch such a challenging medium of communication where thecamera is always on the roll. The free styling camera may give anauseousness awareness sometimes and sometimes may deliver as a punchacross your face. You will wonder on the cinematic peak of the visuallanguage where RGV repeatedly and mercilessly destroys all conventionsof cute storytelling and aims for the jugular vein. As breaking rulesis what RGV stands for. And, I know he will never stop challenging theregulars and second-handers.Department has a much better gripping story line than the recentBollywood like Kahani, Agent Vinod, Houseful2 ,Ishqzaade, Agneepathetc. Although not a nice experiment with new bizarre camera angles, where RGV completely goes Rouge. There are scenes which might haveworked good on a normal 50mm. There wee too many close crops. It wasalso nice to see a director of this stature using Canon5D and 7D forthe shoots using multiple cameras at a time. A tight editing by VinayAbhijit gave a new look to bollywood. it was previously tried in 'Not alove story' but came full on in department. The story has a penchant of RGV where he excels. Power and fight forpower. From the police department to the underworld to politicians ,right from Satya, Shiva, Company,Sarkar, he has a tight control on thenarratives. This time he has gone to fist fighting more than thegunshots, which ruined the whole concept of killing a gangster. If youwanted to kill someone why to throw punches and then take your pistoland shoot in the end, do it at the beginning itself. Like always said -"when you have to shoot , SHOOT."The gun blazing scene at blind school shootout was not required andlater converted in to fists was a lack. The scenes were littleexaggerated but the masala was packed for titular pleasure. So was theunnecessary songs, esp the item number where Nathalia kaur wasuncomfortably shaking the booty. and the whole dancing crowd vanishedonce the shots were fired. RGV should have kept the plot by no to itemnumbers, better female selection and a better music director (BappiLahiri, Dharam-Sandeep, Vikram Magi). Raunchy lyrics and a loudbackground score was another unnecessary. The female moll -MadhuShalini was a complete waste and I wonder about the casting credibilityof the director. Why he always fails in this department, all hisheroines right from Urmilla, Nathalia, Antara, to Madhu has this roundfaces and sleazy tongues. Even Mrs Sanjay Dutt (in the movie) played byLakshmi Manchu was given some loud words not those of a elite policeclass. The conversation between husband and wife was really uncalledand gave a chauvinistic classless feel. Although Lakshmi was betterthan Anjana Shukhani , who was another dumb doctor in this flick ofRGV. It also shows that Lakshmi brings a better screen presence fromher American television stints.Like understood, RGV gives strong characters to his male protagonists.Right from BigB to Sanjay Dutt to Rana Duggubatti to Abhimanyu singh.Sanjay dutt with his sulk-en eyes was a perfect cast for an agingmature rouge police officer while Rana with his too straight face wasanother rock cut honest fresh cop. Rana stands tall among Bachhan andDutt, still he needs to bring more wrinkles on his face for a closecrop 70mm silver screen. Amitabh was in sarkar's persona preachingHindu epics and comparing himself with Gautam Buddha. The portrayal ofGrey politician with blend of philosophy brought new vividness to thismovie. The subtle screenplay to bring the tout thrill on the screen wasamazingly good and the central theme of the movie. Vijay raj was goodas a local don, but Abhimanyu as DK was completely wasted as a BABY,and RGV failed to utilize the venomous eyes this time. Deepak Tijoriwith Kohl eyes and a Hogan-ish mustache was a surprise but lost itsfactor over the time. Nilesh Girkar had a good story and ended with a hope of Department 2.RGV, Everybody wants you to bounce back, just make sure you have abetter female selection and a better music director. The story was tautand thrilling. Not for front stalls and neither for multiplexes. |

Worst bollywood movie ever madeThen when you think you have had enough of looking at Sanjay Dutt orRana Daggubatti or Abhimanyu Singh or Vijay Raaz or that actress whohams as Naseer through the V of their legs and arms, or tight close-upsof chai utensil handles going around the room, the picture whirs intoaction mode. The picture and the plot keep shaking till they give you aheadache. However, cinematography is the least of the film's problems.Mahadeo (Sanju) and Shiv Narayan (Rana) (if you don't notice theconnection between the names, Ramu makes sure you do) and a few morecops are part of a strange police encounter department on a spreebumping off members of the Sawatya gang (Vijay Raaz who lurks around ina white dhoti ensemble, screeching at his gang members) in town.It doesn't matter what the plot is, Sawatya has an endless supply ofgang members who take till the end of the film to perish. And there issome random gyaan about Bhagvad Gita. At some point Mr Bachchan entersthe fray to do some spectacular hamming of his own, showing hispenchant for doing 'legal things illegally' rather than 'illegal thingslegally.' Really Ramu, did you have to say that thrice in the film? You could argue that at least the item number must be worth the money.Yeah sure, if watching pelvic thrusts upside down is your cup of tea,why not? Madam Nathalia Kaur looks like she had to be given electricshocks while filming. This is not a film. It is a joke. Ramu, take abreath. Take a vacation. Go to Haridwar, meditate. A goodcinematographer and a good film will come to you. |

Waste of timeWouldn't recommend this movie to anyone, it's a complete waste of time. The cinematography is awful!! Scenes are shown from the most weirdangles, not sure what RGV was thinking when he made this. Some were sobad I just sat there laughing thinking this can't get any worse, but itdoes.Feel sorry for the actors in this movie, must be hugely embarrassingfor them to be a part of this. I watched about 45mins then fell asleep, mainly due to feeling sick watching the camera move from left to right,in and out. Songs aren't anything to wait for either, rubbish item song withrubbish lyrics....Don't waste 2 hours of your life on this. |

Worst film everIt is hard to believe that this films comes from Ram Gopal Verma whohas previously directed great films like Satya, Shiva and Rangeela. Inthis film he even managed to be get the worst ever performance fromAmitab Bacchan. I have wasted nearly 3 hours of my life that I willnever get back now, watching this film . Mr Ram Gopal Verma should serious think of a career change - How aboutstarting a chain of tea stalls on bicycles. The only reason I have given it 1 rating is because IMDb won't allowany lower it actually deserves a -10. If you were to pick 10 studentsfrom your college who have never acted before I'm sure they will do abetter job than the actors in this film. |
