One of those moviesThat you're not sure about but decide to go for it and came out of itsatisfied and mystified as to why you hesitated in the first place. It was loads of fun! Great acting! Funny! Witty! Exciting! Stylistic!Unique! And in the end, satisfying. What makes this movie moreinteresting than a lot of the heist movies is that the twist in themovie is not really a twist in the plot... but rather twist the thegenre of the heist/crime films. While the movie is about two differentgroups of robbers attempting to rob the same bank... something else isgoing on that adds to the chaos. Its like the movie "clue" (based onthe board game), a wacky version of Sherlock Holmes, Columbo and theMonk mixed with a crazy bank robbery. You won't go wrong if you decide to watch this. If you are thinkingabout it, but are not totally sold on how it looks from the commercialsor what it sounds like from the description... then you've put yourselfin a great position to be completely surprised. I watched thetrailer... I felt that there was a strange and uneasy chemistry fromJudd and Dempsey... and it also seemed like a comedy that was tryingtoo hard to be funny... but I watched it cause I couldn't think ofanything else to watch. And now I'm writing a review the few momentsafter watching it... telling you how satisfied with my decision and howsatisfied you will be with your decision. |

Not bad, but not good eitherThis film had all the ingredients and potential to be somethingmemorable, but in the end it petered out to a rather average andpredictable ending. It just felt a little bit rushed, almost like it was paced a bit toofast, and it rushed to its conclusion rather than adding a few morescenes and developing the characters and plot a bit more effectively -at times the frenetic pace of the movie literally left you trying tofigure out what exactly was happening (and I don't mean in the goodsense, but rather in the 'I've lost track of whose where, doing what'sense). In fact the speed at which this movie is executed is exactly why itbecomes obvious that one particular character is not the bad guy -sure, the accusation is made but the editing just doesn't leave anyroom for audience doubt, thus causing any possible suspense to bestripped from that scene. The other area where this film falls down (and majorly so in myopinion) is with the constant f-bombs (and worse, at one point) - it isliterally every second word for several of the characters, and as aresult it becomes really jarring and starts to distract the viewer fromthe movie. I guess someone though it would add humor to the film, butin the end it actually becomes a tiring distraction. Overuse of the Fword is often a sign of a lack of comedic acting ability, which isexactly the case in this movie. You'll notice that the two hillbillybank robbers are the most comically well crafted characters in thefilm, and yet they use the f-word very sparingly. Both actors arecomedians by nature, and their skill is what carries the performance, not a cheap recourse to excessive f-bombs.Had all the makings of a classic comedy, but in the end it just failedto launch. |

The real question is: How does a movie as weak as this get made? Who read this script and said, "I have to make this movie"?..It's not funny - and that's the real crime. |

Bright,Light & Funny ... This movie was a balanced Mix & a lot of FunThis is a crime comedy which really delivers the comedy.Small scenesacted out perfectly and the movie had a bright feel to it which made itmore interesting to watch.Casting was nice. The actors really fit to the roles they were given andthe mystery remains a mystery till the very end.Again, the humor inthis movie was really good. There was all kinds of comedy based onsituations that fit the style perfectly.Very often you see a movie with such good understanding of theCharacters. The plot is very simple and movie seems a bit predictablein the beginning BUT of-course its not.The story is very original andPatrick Dempsey's character "Tripp Kennedy" is which i liked themost. He's interesting, really. So, its a bank robbery with two robbery-teams that plan to rob the samebank at the same time (this is funny already). There's a little feel ofblack comedy and also a bit of "Stupid-eh-ism" which really is fun.Its a movie you can just watch (with the more the merrier) for a lot oflaughs and a few great laughs and have a great time and also relax allin all.I rate it 7.7/10Hope This Helps. Thank You for reading my review.HAPPY VIEWING-Ajit |

A crime comedy that's unique and messy and nowhere near realisticThere comes a time in every criminal's life when he has to makesacrifices. "Flypaper" takes place in a bank where two criminal groupshave simultaneously arrived to rob the place. But this is not a crimedrama; it's a dark comedy revolving around some very unlikelycharacters. Namely, Tripp (Patrick Dempsey), an autistic hero of sortswho is super-observant but unable to behave appropriately.Tripp enters the bank at closing time but calculating the movements ofeveryone around him he guesses what is about to occur and jumps overthe counter to save the pretty teller (Ashley Judd). In the scramblethat ensues, there is one dead body, a room full of huddled bankemployees-turned-hostages, and then Tripp, standing there, trying tonegotiate a peace accord. It should be made very clear at this pointthat this is a comedy and is far from realistic. The film really does seem like it was trying to be a funny, comedic, chaotic mess. And that's exactly what it is. The characterizations, although unique in some cases, are messy. The many twists and turns, perhaps a half-dozen too many, are messy. But is it really necessary tofault a film when it accomplishes exactly what it set out to do? What "Flypaper" really accomplishes is a low-budget indie version of"Ocean's Eleven" but with a "who done it" mystery angle. Sometimesslapstick, frequently zany, but also sometimes clever, it's comedyfirst, crime second, and realism nowhere to be found. |

One thought that occurred to me while pacing myself through Flypaper: With the economy being what it is, will there be a rash of bank robbery movies? |

BrilliantThis is one of those films that I will be watching again and again. The story is very good - I have just dropped one star as I do not feelthat the skills Patrick Dempsey's character has are explained well.Though the story is not complicated, it is one of those that willbenefit from a second viewingAll the bad guys' characters are played very well and with depth - myfavourites being 'Peanut Butter' and 'Jelly'. The Jewish bad dude'sdialogue is a hoot. This is something I can watch with my wife that is not schmaltzy.Nice twist at the end too. |

There reaches a point, however, at which the rather limited nature of the movie's premise starts to become a problem... |

Funny just got funnier!!The moment the fun started in the movie, I was laughing out loud tillthe very end. Its got intelligent, witty and sarcasm type of humor andnever fails to make your belly hurt. If anyone ever actually did aROFL, it would be while watching this movie. Its got a plot inside a plot, which makes it a very clever piece ofentertainment. Not for once, would you confused about the state ofevents. Its depicted in a clear manner, which would be understood toall.I don't believe I've seen a similar plot in any movie which makes thisvery original and different. With all the humor, twists and thewhodunit, its a definite watch. If you haven't seen it yet, what are you waiting for.. |

The film is a heist-and-hostage comedy that reminds you that criminals, under pressure, are as neurotic as anyone else. |

Very good movie. Underrated! This movie truly surprised me. The acting was excellent. PatrickDempsey and Ashley Judd go well together.Flypaper is an underratedmovie. All of the actors in this film did a wonderful job. I thinkpeople should have a look at Flypaper, it is definitely worth the time.If you're looking for a comedy/action/mystery/crime, flypaper is themovie for you. This movie will have you thinking from the start and justwhen you think you have everything figured out you're going to be infor another surprise.Dempsey's role as a Sherlock Holmes on sugar isvery entertaining and keeps the audience interested throughout.Ihaven't seen a good movie like this in a while. This film truly deserves a lot more respect. Truly a fun movie towatch. |

Flypaper, good movie? hardly possibleI had some high hope for this film. What's not to like about PatrickDempsy in a bank robbery movie? I mean when i read the plot summary, ithought it seemed cunning and ingenious, but much to my despair, itdidn't live up to anything I had hoped for. Unrealistic, crappy acting from some of the characters, and an ongoingobsession with..----SPOILERS ALERT-----.... The guy killed at the very start. I mean, who cares who killedhim? Patrick Dempsy was obsessed with finding the culprit to his death, when really, the main moral of the movie was to rob a bank. He was toomuch of a wannabe Sherlock Holmes.Realistically, the explosives would've had to have been heard out sideof the bank right? What, there was really no-one who was intrigued towhy the bank's windows and doors were padlocked and spray paintedblack?A poor movie for the dull and easily-amused viewer. I really don't seewhy people are rating this 10/10, it barely scrapes past a 3/10 forme...... |

not so boring ....yet no fun too..........Patrick Dempsey plays Tripp Kennedy, a savant with a liking for smallchange. A still hot Ashley Judd plays Kaitlin, a bank teller. But notall is as it seems and as the story progresses the action heats up, thestory, and the film, begins to fall apart.Once the thought "Monk" entered my head I couldn't get rid of it, likeone of those annoying songs you get stuck on your internal jukebox. There were couple of laugh out loud moments but those were few and farbetween and the movie seemed to drag on and on and the holes in theplot got bigger and the script was stretched to cover the holes, mostlywith lots of pointless swearing.Pointless in two respects. Rob Minkoff is no Quentin Tarantino and allthe cast added together will never be Samuel L Jackson. The storylinewas so vague at times, so off plot, that I got the impression thesomeone on set shouted "MORE SWEARING" to cover up the rubbish dialogueand acting in pointless scenes which should have been sent to the floorof the edit suite, metaphorically speaking. |

Slick and twistedIt's a nice little thriller that has quite a lot of flaws. But the samecan be said about a lot of other movies too. So while I'm not aparticularly big fan of movies who are obviously trying too hard to becool, it almost works with this one. The sentiment is good and the maincharacters are really working good off each other. There might be some twists that are not as convincing as others (goingback to the trying to be cool/funny bit), but the movie still managesto entertain with the variety of characters thrown into the mix. Itmight be cliché a few times during the running time and some might wishit to be more extreme in some ways, but overall it is nice little fun |

Relaxing comedy that will bring smile on you faceThis movie is funny comedy. Congratulation Rob Minkoff. The story isvery original, very effective scenes, actually every scene is funny onher own way, also, the scenes are short and that can be sometimes veryfunny. The end of the movie is unpredictable and that is the point ofwhole movie. For me it is excellent, end of the movie - somethingunpredictable, like it. From the beginning until the end of movie, thereare funny talks, funny body moves, funny situations, all that withlittle black humor. So if you tired or bored this is excellent movie torelax and have beautiful smile on you face. "Flyparer" - great 87 min. |

Absolute garbageSave your time. Give this one a miss. I expected it to be an averageentertainer but it was ridiculously stupid. The end "twist" isembarrassingly idiotic & utterly predictable. Its a wafer thin plot(illogical to begin with) stretched over an unfunny hour. Its not only low on budget but also on ideas & situations. The'professional' crew behaves erratically. The 'dumb' crew is annoying. Icouldn't wait for the ending just to see what is finally revealed. Andit was a mess. I cannot speak for the other flowery reviews, but do notexpect a logical plot out of this. Its a story strewn together toappear both funny & intelligent. Sadly its none. |

Pretty dire.Don't watch this film thinking, like I did, that you're going to get aclever heist movie with some comedy relief. You won't. What you get isbizarre mix of slapstick farce and illogical plot with a lot of runningaround and shouting for no good reason. This film is only about 75 minutes long, yet it's one of very few filmsthat I didn't make it fully through. The whole thing just seemspointless and plot less (And yes, I'm aware there's a transparentlyobvious "twist" at the end).Give it a go if you want, it certainly seems that some people love itfrom the reviews on here, but I must admit I'm mystified at them. Bothmy wife and I thought it was awful, and we have pretty different tastesin films. |

Clue in a bankThe plot: When two very different groups of bank robbers target thesame bank, a quirky hostage tries to mediate the conflict, as he findsclues suggesting a greater conspiracy.Flypaper certainly has its faults, but I think it makes up for themwith its flashes of humor. The easiest way to describe it is Clue in abank. Multiple heists go down at the same time, alongside a seeminglyunrelated hit. Wacky hijinks follow, with all sorts of quirkycharacters acting quirky, in a quirky plot, probably written by aquirky author. The characters are all basically stereotypes, but sincethis is essentially a farce, one could easily argue that they'reactually parodies of those stereotypes. The plot itself seems to flirtwith constant homage to Clue alongside parody of heist movies. Thereare also a few references to other movies, such as This Is Spinal Tap.If you're looking for a deep or original movie, this really isn't it.But if you want something that's equal parts Die Hard, The UsualSuspects, and Clue... you're in luck! It was savaged by the critics, but I actually found it to be rather amusing, even if it waspredictable and a re-hash of Clue. |
