Plot Summary:
Portland detective, Nick Burkhardt, has seen some gruesome crime scenes, but nothing prepares him for the strange visions he begins seeing seemingly regular people momentarily transforming into hideous monsters. A visit from his only living relative reveals the truth. Nick has inherited the ability to see supernatural creatures, and as a Grimm, he is tasked with keeping the balance between mankind and the mythological. A reformed Big Bad Wolf becomes his greatest (and also reluctant) ally and confidant. Its not long before his work as a policeman leads Nick to the criminals he once thought were only found in fairy tales.

Great showI see how some earlier reviewers had some negative things to say aboutthis show, and for me too it started out a little flat. The supportingcharacters were more interesting than Nick and every episode had prettymuch the same story with little insight into the creature world and thehistory and purpose of grimms. However, the last few episodes were surprisingly consistent andwow...the story is really moving along, we're getting more characterdevelopment and depth. What a pleasant surprise! I'm finally seeingdevelopment of Nick's character and he's now faced to make choicesbetween his "job" as a Grimm and his job as a cop. The writers are alsogiving us more insight into the creature world, its structure, hierarchy and some of the history, which I think is great. We also gota new female character, which fairly interesting and has a greatpresence (that I cannot say about Nick's girlfriend). I love seeing thenew interactions with creatures; Nick is finally embracing or at leasttrying to understand his role in the wesen world.I came to love this show and I'm definitely waiting for the secondseason. |

great show is getting goodThe show started slow and but needs to make nick a little more bad assand after last weeks episode he is coming into his own. Need to get theDoctor chick more involved and Monroe needs to start chewing bubble gumor kicking ass. Really hope they bring Adaline back as a friend and notfoe and the dragon girl can be an asset. The beaver people don't needto get involved but they could show up from time to time to get rid ofthe bodies. The police chief is not a wimp and can handle his own evenagainst reapers. I wish Asian uniform officer is one of my favoritecharacters and needs more face time and wish he would have gained someability after being poisoned that would make Him MONROE and Nicks eyeson the street. I see so much potential like a redneck cousin or twocoming to put down his friend Monroe. |

BadWhile the actors are good, the plots are fine, and the show haspotential. The power ranger level monsters are SO lame. 100% ugly. Seriously, ifyou're going to have main character monsters at least make thempalatable (yes I'm talking about our resident werewolf.) It's like I'mwatching this really good show.....then flash! horribly low levelgraphically depicted mess of ugly.Who are they paying to make this crap monsters???My advice is to fire them. (Side note: I understand some monsters are inherently ugly, but I'mreferring to the hatchet job done making them super fake.) |

GrimmGrimm is a new show from a channel I do not usually watch, and I haveto say it was better than I expected. The acting is very good, and thecharacters have a lot of depth. I am writing this review after watchingthe first ten episodes of season one, so I hope it stays this good.Grimm puts a great twist on a bunch of fairy tales, all the while notmaking the stories unbelievable. However, do not watch this show if youdon't have a strong stomach, as some scenes are horribly gruesome anddisgusting. My personal favorite character Monroe adds a sense of comicrelief to the show without being stupid or overly silly. So overall agood show, could be better. But if you like the general aspect of theseries, I suggest you start watching it. It is worth your time, butnothing too special. |

Plesantly surprising, and engaging show! This show has appeal and intrigue, which is why I really like it. Inmany ways, it is believable, or makes a solid attempt to be (althoughelements of fantasy might not be a match for some peoples limitedreality). It awakens your imagination and pushes it a little further. It is exciting and the action is constant in its delivery, which keepsyour interest. You don't always know what to expect, while at othertimes, you may try to solve the mystery and prove yourself right, orwrong. The characters are engaging and likable, for the most part. There aresome that are waiting in the wings to make their "big move", but youkind of assume that…and wait for it. You may not be certain as to their"true" role in the grand scheme of things. While some "horror" elements exist, they are limited, appropriatelyconcealed for network TV, and easily digested. This does not, in myopinion, take away from the x-factor that this show delivers. The showmakes you feel as though you are a part of it, and allows you to putyourself in one of the roles, if you dare to imagine. In the beginning, I thought that it was a blend of CSI and Buffy theVampire Slayer. However, after watching all the episodes, it has madeits own unique mark. Therefore, the GRIMM has a "thumbs up" from me.Keep it going, or at least find a good adoptive station to carry itsflag. |

A Great Show In A Time Of Great ShowsI'm glad that the networks are finally competing for an audience again.A lot of TV series keep rehashing the same old stories and people areturning away to Cable TV for original shows.I think "Grimm" is NBC's way of saying, "Hey there now, we're notgiving up." Love the show, love the stories, was waiting for the nextepisode during Thanksgiving Weekend and now I'm waiting the week afterand I have yet to see the next episode. I don't know why NBC is tryingto kill this show by making its audience go somewhere else forentertainment.Either way, the show is great, the stories are hella weird and thisshow is out there, along with American Horror Stories, the only twoshows I'm currently watching on TV. |

Grimm it isThis is more like it. Dark, tense, suspenseful with nice taunt twistson the Brothers Grimm. In this series evil is real and like in theoriginal tales tends to lurk in the dark waiting for the hapless tocome along. David Giuntoli is great as Nick, a cop who learns he is oneof the few grimms out there: people who can see the shadow under thepersona. And it is fun to see how the original tales have been updatedto fit the series. There are fairy tales for adults populated by thechildhood memories of red riding hood, the three bears, and who knowswhat's coming next. These are stories that would have, in my youth, sent children to bed with all the lights in their bedroom on while theyhid under sheets so the monsters wouldn't be able to get at them. |

Still has promiseThe show has a few problems still. The overall story arc of season 1was pretty much non-existent, what little there was, was vague andunclear. Also the action has been a little disappointing in way ofeither being too short or unlikely. For example, there was a scene Ihad looked forward to for days, since seeing the trailer, but the sceneended up coming in the last 5 minutes of the episode and lasting forlike 10 seconds, which was very disappointing. On the other hand, the characters are fascinating, the bad guys show alot of promise and the "universe" is interesting and full of potential. The show is also charming, in a lot of ways. The relationship betweenthe Grimm and Monroue, the existent of super cute and very weirdsupernatural-beavers :P And it's fun to see Grimm try to combine his"Buffy the Vampire slayer" life with his job as a policeman! In fact, some of the time he does feel a little like a male Buffy, with a littleless emotional struggles and a little more confidence. Also, some ofthe action scenes there are, are well choreographed and nicely done.Acting is pretty good all around and the relationship progression feelsnatural and unstrained. So all in all, a show I do recommend peoplegive a try. It looks like we're up for a Grimm with more problems anddiscoveries now that we're on our way into season 2. Thumb up! |

Not really ... thereThe first disappointment was the cops, played by David Giuntoli andRussell Hornsby. City dwellers, not really tough enough or scary, morefluffy than capable to take on the other species who inhabit earth. TheGrimm's touch is interesting, but the story fail before starting. Ourhero has no training, despite his origins and have been left indarkness about his heritage because ... No idea, but the rest of thefirst episode is full of overused cliché. He survive all the attacks, befriend a 'big bad wolf', probably werewolf, who help him in findinganother bad wolf, really bad this time, his boss try to kill him, partof a larger conspiracy who is going develop later, etc. I expectednothing because i didn't read anything before watching, but I'm afraidthis show will go nowhere. Hollywood have a chronically lack of heroesor at least actors capable to portray heroes. If you are going to makean action show, pick a leading star who is, hint, believable. His aunt, bald and cripple, inspire fear. David Giuntoli is flat and incapable totransmit emotions. |

Time will tell. This thing has started out well enough. The hero is attractive, has adark mission he does not yet completely understand, and seems to bewell on his way to collecting a quirky cadre of sidekicks to help himwith his calling.... Hey, does Joss Whedon know that someone has rippedoff the first seasons of "BTVS" and "Angel"? Even if he does know, heprobably is not overly concerned because he must also be aware of thepotential traps inherent in approaching an horror series from such adirection. The problem is formula. Both Buffy and Angel started with similar "beast of the week" formatsthat involved our protagonists' struggles in discovering and combatingthe numerous creepies inhabiting their dramatic universe. Whedon didthis in fine style, mixing action and scariness with tongue usuallyheld at least semi-firmly in cheek. A few seasons into it, however, fatigue seems to have set in. The beasts begin to exhaust themselves.Enter the over-arching storyline. Now critics LOVE these continuingstory lines, seeing them as a way to add more dramatic depth to bothstory and characters through a series' run. While this can certainlyhappen, it can also allow writers to ease up on plot development, substituting with repetitive and usually meaningless character clashes. This is not only traditional, but also works quite well in daytimesoaps, where nobody really expects or even wants much to happenplot-wise before the traditional big wedding at the end of the season. In a sci-fi/horror/fantasy series, however, it can be a dramaticdisaster. Even "BTVS", which I believe can lay claim to some of thebest writing ever done for television, faltered due to an over relianceupon continuing story lines. Promised apocalypses fell flat becausewriters failed to add enough real dramatic content to the story lineswhich promised them as their climax. The challenge for "Grimm", then, will be to provide something that atleast FEELS fresh. "Beast of the week". "Angel", "BTVS", and theshort-lived "Special Unit 2" have already done that very well. Longstory arch? It's been done and presents certain writing traps. Timewill tell. |

A Good Idea, Average ExecutionIn the beginning I watched it, the premise was creative and intriguing.Using the Grimm fairy tale world as a template for an alternate realityseemed interesting. Sadly the writers proved just to be producinganother average American cliché TV series. The storyline is the same inevery episode: there are "baddies", at some point the "hero" findshimself alone in danger for some reason (great police-work) and finallysubdues the "baddy" using physical methods. Sorry, that is not creativeand entertaining enough, and the connecting storyline of some majorconspiracy including the Police Chief is not that interesting that youwould not get bored by the single episodes. It's just kids' TV - notreally suitable for kids, though. I also wondered where they got thestrange names for the creatures from. They somehow seem German, butthey are not. And the pronunciation just butchers the German language. All in all they could have done a fascinating, modern show, where youimmerse yourself more and more in an alternate world and a series-spanning storyline. Sadly, what they did is an outdated concept ofstereotypical episodes, which soon leaves you bored. |

Nice mixGoing to try to avoid spoilers in this review. The writers have melded formula cop material with horror in a viableway. Add in a mix of humor, sprinkled carefully, and you have themakings of another Angel or Buffy. Beautiful locations that add to thegeneral mood, rounded out with a good cast argurs well for this to be asuccessful entry. The premiere gave all the basic information to follow the premise of afamily line that can see the supernatural and have been dealing withthe evil around us for centuries yet is letting the viewer "learn"along with the main character (the latest in the line to discover his"gift"). The supporting cast, human and otherwise, are strongcharacters as well. Nick (the latest "Grimm") already has a job as acop with good instincts and his new talents, so far, have enhancedrather than disturbed his career.Given the quality of writing and acting shown in this entry the showshould draw viewers looking for something a bit different yet stillwithin a comfort zone. |

Season 2 gets betterSeason 1 was a build up, was OK.. The show is similar in story line tosay Xfiles or Sanctuary, but season 2 has moved away from monsters perepisode to a more intriguing story. I hope the network keeps going withthis show as the plot is wide open and pretty coolInitially it was like "this really cant go too far" but with the twist, involvement from other characters, it really has become a must watchshow. I tend to watch movies on the train heading into work (iPad) butGrimm is worth watching at home. Great series and cast of relative newcomers/unknowns works well. Thereare moment of comedy from Munroe, tongue in cheek stuff |

OK time the move the story along nowThe premise is interesting. Detective suddenly inexplicably finds outhe is a Grimm with the inherent power to see supernatural beings out offairytale lore. Grimms because of their reputation as killers of suchbeings are feared. Unlike other Grimms our hero is a 'good' Grimm anduses his powers only to solve crimes. Curiously, it seems all the caseshe happens to be involved in has a fairytale component. Now, thisreputation that Grims have is being used by our hero to intimidatefairytale suspects and witnesses, but one has to wonder how long thiswill last when the creatures realize he is all bark and no bite? Theyare beginning to drag this series out as they are already into 11episodes and no resolution of the subplots i.e. the police captain whois a creature, why is this Grimm untrained, does he have any powersaside from the ability to see creatures? If not what's to fear? I forone am beginning to get bored of the monster of the week storyline andwants this story to move forward or they will have lost me as viewer. |

something addictive about this. (spoilers)I watched this show out of pure boredom with nothing else to do. But Iended up enjoying it. The first 20 minutes were quite boring. spoilers:It didn't even get interesting until the cop and the wolf first went tothe mans house. but after that is what drew me in. Too be honest I amnot quite sure of what to make of the show just yet, but I am hopingsomething amazing does come of it. It has some weird seductivenessabout it, that makes you think: whats a grimm, what type of show willthis be, what the hell happened in the end of the first episode. I willdefinitely keep watching just to see what will happen later in theseason. The main problem they have is the dull boring moments, I justwish they would explain more what kind of show this is going to be. Isit going to be a cop show, with criminals and solving crimes everyepisode, or understanding this guys special power and into his world of"magic". |

Not Your Momma's Fairy TaleI was skeptical when I heard of a cop procedural meets fairy tale show. We've already got something pretty close to that (or we used to) withSupernatural. But while in the folktales course I took this year, my TAsuggested it and gave it good reviews so I figured why not. And I'm soglad I did. This show gives a refreshing spin to the stories we all grew up hearingfrom our parents and grandparents. For once, they weren't being spoonfed to us as these colorful tales that always had a nice, neat happilyever after. They're dark and menacing and a bit terrifying just as theywere intended to be when the Grimm brothers wrote them down in thefirst collections. The portrayals of the "monsters" is a great blendbetween scary and amusing that brings back the nostalgic Buffy fan inme (which makes sense seeing as David Greenwalt helped create this). There are some rough spots and the characters need some moredevelopment (more Monroe, please!) but that's nothing a bit of timecan't remedy. A lot of shows are a little shaky during those first fewepisodes and start to get their stability once they've found theirvoice. Seeing as we're only six episodes in, I think things are goingpretty well. As for all the negative feedback from various sources saying it isn'tas good as Once Upon A Time, the two are completely different entities.Despite the fairy tale connection, they barely have anything in common.Once Upon A Time is to Grimm the way that Disney is to Horror films. They aren't even in the same drama. Not that there's anything wrongwith Once Upon A Time but to constantly compare the two and debatewhich is better is a waste of energy and time. Hopefully, Grimm canpick up a bit more favor or reviews with a little less bias in favor ofOUAT. Either way, we've got till May to see if these fairy tales havehappy endings for all. |

Intriguing, colorful, exciting and sometimes scary! What I really like in Grimm is endless fantasy and interesting plot. Iadmire the courage of these two detectives. The beauty of Portland'snature is spellbinding... Also what I can admit that I fall in lovewith the main actor - David (Nick), he is so handsome. Most of theseries are exciting but sometimes a little overextended, but it's theonly one negative thing which I can say. In general once you watchit...you can't get off the screen. But in the beginning I thought thatspecial effects were so poor and even funny, but later I got used to itand now I can say that the quality of this film is rather good and someof the monsters are very scary. Also what I like that there are manydifferent characters and each spectator can find for himself his ownfavorite hero... For me it's Monroe (the funniest person there)andPrince (very elegant, sexual and mysterious) Hope this TV show/story will be successful! |

Not grim at all, but delightfulRarely does a series move me to review it. But this one is quitespecial. The premise is almost like Monsters Inc where the little girlscares the monsters under the bed - just made for adults. And what alot of monsters there are here! The possibilities are almost endless...Vaguely based on the Grimm tales, this series transports those talesinto the 21st century far better than any other recent attempt at it.Each episode is a surprise, some have major frights in them, though theone criticism I have is that the main character isn't "grim" enough. But to me the revelation - and half the fun of this show - is thecharacter Monroe, played masterfully by Silas Weir Mitchell - trulyfunny, bringing a human touch to the monsters on display... he trulydeserves an award for his role in this. |

Grimms who'da-thunk itI only thought Grimm was the name of brothers who gathered fairytalestories in Europe. Did not know they were progenitors of a line ofdetectives/hunters/monster killers. Saw the Grimm pilot this a.m. onDVR, from last night's show. Scary. I can't even watch/read anythingStephen King, and yet Grimm held my interest, even through to the end.Normally I cannot watch such gory things. I knew ahead of time thatGrimm would not be all cutesy and happily ever after. Reformed big badwolf funny, especially the part of urinating on his back fence in orderto mark his territory. He said funny things, and I think he may stealthe spotlight from the main character who is so serious. Did not knowKate Burton was in this. She needs better billing. I remember her as achild; a picture of when she was about eight years old. Now I realizeshe is way older than her nephew in the show. She did great at fightingthe monster in the pilot. She was also great as a hospital patient, hooked up to machines and having facial injuries and tubing in hermouth. Richard Burton would be proud. The mailman/2nd big bad wolf wasgoofy as all heck. His huge pointed nose prosthesis made me think hewould soon break into the cartoonish big bad wolf facial persona, butlater out in the yard he did indeed break into the sort of werewolffacial look. What would Michael Landon say about that?I watched the pilot this week of Once Upon A Time, and felt that Grimmmay be sort of covering similar territories. I have instructed my DVRto record both series.10/10 |

Awesome first season. Then too cliché.The first season was very promising. The special effects was terriblylacking and the make-up was cheesy, but that was acceptable. I lovedhow it didn't get too into the gore and had a focus on the fairytaleconcept being injected into modern times. It was exciting and thoughnot completely new concept, it was well executed. I think the bit oforiginality it possessed surpassed the other fairytale show "Once Upona Time."Second season however...The whole amnesia thing was...palatable...untilthey introduced the love triangle. This isn't daytime television. Ifthey had, instead, made Juliette Silverton a more intelligent character(she had the potential), a more powerful character and backing up Nick(as Monroe has), it would have been an incredible (but rewarding)endeavor. Instead, they chose to make her fall too far into the trap ofthe cliché damsel in distress. Nick had already saved her from thedragon's lair and that was done well, but the amnesia bit coupled witha love triangle was a little too much. I understand the reasoningbehind it, but it was poorly executed. I stopped watching it since. Ijust couldn't stomach it. |
