Safe to Say that Safe is Stupid

Only 16 weeks into the 2012 theatrical release schedule and my Worst of2012 list is beginning to take shape. This Means War, the action comedystarring Tom Hardy and Chris Pine will be there. Likely joining it willbe Julia Roberts' misadventures in the dreadful Mirror, Mirror. Bothentries now have company via Jason Statham's new action flick, Safe.Safe puts actor Jason Statham in familiar territory. He is protecting ayoung person while driving recklessly, shooting, punching and jumpinghis way through fast paced and carefully choreographed sequencesintended on keeping the interest of 13-year-old boys. Statham hasprotected young helpless persons before thanks to his Transporterfranchise, but here, he scrapes the bottom of the barrel for the worstscript and character he has ever played on the big screen. In Safe, Statham plays Luke Wright, a former cop who has been living onthe streets since the Russian mob killed his wife after he failed towin a promotional UFC-style fight. Wright's life is reaching its bottompoint when he notices a young Asian girl being followed in a New YorkCity subway station. We learned earlier that the young Asian named Mei (Catherine Chan) is asuper-whiz with numbers that has been kidnapped by the Chinese mob andbrought to America intent on having her memorize a sequence of numbersthat lead to unknown treasures. When Luke Wright involves himself in her safety, he becomes absorbed ina cliché driven plot involving corrupt cops, corrupt politicians, theChinese mob and the Russian mob. All have but one purpose, to gainownership of the young girl by any means possible and to use thenumbers she has memorized to open two safes containing both money andinformation valuable beyond comprehension. While all four of the politicians, police and two mobs collapse uponWright and Wei's whereabouts, our packed theatre of nine paying patronswatched as they shouted, shot and ran amok through the city in ablended mess that comes courtesy of writer/director Boaz Yakin(Remember the Titans). There is so much wrong with Safe that it is hard to get ones headaround the convoluted disaster in an attempt to explain in words how towarn other interested parties. Statham is usually consistent, but evenhe cannot save such an atrocity as this. His action sequences are many, but they are boring and uninspired and l felt the need to shut my eyesand grab a quick nap rather than watch him continue to take on 5-6heavily armed men at one time and get away unscathed.Assisting Statham in this bad smelling piece of fromage is thesupporting cast. None of the many characters thrust on screen are welldeveloped and the only one that does have any relevance, Mei, isportrayed by a young girl who can't seem to act her way out of a wetfortune cookie. Usually, we are relaxed when it comes to criticizingyouth and their attempts in their big screen debuts. But Catherine Chanis terrible as a central character and her bad acting is the largestfly feasting on this pile of sh*t.To be fair – okay, to be somewhat fair – some of the dialogue expectedof Chan was beyond eye-rolling. She has to take direction in how toexpress such painful lines as "You're a crazy man, yet not that stupid"while Statham tries to catch a breath between bone breaking.Snores could be heard in our almost vacant theatre and they were loudenough to drown out my own. There isn't many films that I can trulyadvise to stay away from, but it's safe to say that Safe is one ofthem.www.killerreviews.com

A Jason Statham fest ....... With a "plot"

Little things can ruin a movie experience; the sound being out of syncwith the visuals for example : Jason Statham contorting his voice intoa New York accent is, unfortunately, one of those things. However ignoring any and everything that comes out of his mouth, 'Safe'is a fairly decent Statham film, if forgettable. The action is classic Stath, brutal and cool to watch (a particulartrain fight involving creative testicular battering being a standout)if a little far fetched (unless NY is in reality a China/Russiawar-zone). However 'Safe' makes a valiant attempt to be more than aStath fest; an ambitious and convulsing plot reminiscent of any numberof Guy Ritchie gangster flicks in place to link up the Bald headedcarnage. It fails ....... a promising premise (young genius holding mysteriousnumbers that every ethnic minority in NY is willing to, and does, killfor) soon stagnates; the plot lurches along, dragging the viewer fromone scene to the next (with a healthy sprinkling of racial stereotypes)with the plot twists feeling more like spasms than jaw dropping "SixthSense" style epiphanies. However to take 'Safe' for what it is, despite it's protestations (inthe form of an attempt at a clever plot), as I have said it is standardStath; nowhere near as bad as "In the Name of the King" yet no wherenear his best (although to see the bald beast break out into fluentRussian is an amusing shock). PS: to female fans of Statham, with max 3 seconds of topless time, goelsewhere for your fix.

Safe: The Enemy of My Enemy Better Be Jason Statham

Jason Statham goes all out in his latest action packed movie, Safe. Ifyou like Statham's other adrenaline pumping movie you will love thisone. As for those who criticize him for his lack of "acting" may besurprised by this one.Last time I saw Statham on the big screen was for Killer Elite and Iremember walking out incredibly disappointed. At this point I had cometo terms not to expect anything but action fun from Statham's moviesand I love them for that reason. But Killer Elite even bothered me asbeing nothing special. So I walked into Safe with moderate expectationsand it blew me away. If you have read my previous reviews you know Ilike comparing films that are similar, so I would have to say thiscombine elements of James Foley's The Corrupter (rivaling gangs andcorruption) and Harold Becker's Mercury Rising (lone cop protectingadolescent with secret information).Safe follows a former gun for hire, Luke Wright (Statham), living as alone, homeless man following a run-in with the Russian mafia and is onthe verge of suicide until he rescues a 12 year old Chinese girl, Mei(Catherine Chan), on the run from two feuding gangs because she holdsthe code they desperately need. However, the code goes much deeper thanjust the rivaling Russian and Chinese gangs and into the corruption ofNew York City's finest. After the last couple Statham flicks I knew he was due for a good one.Not only does he kick some serious bad-guy butt in Safe but he actuallyacts a little bit! There is one scene of a flashback explainingWright's past with the Russian mafia that showcased some veryimpressive acting on the behalf of Statham, really cool to finally seeit. Catherine Chan was excellent as Mei, she played the perfect damselin distress without being annoying or plain. I don't know where tobegin with the villains. There were so many! James Hong as the Chinesegang leader was effective creepy and intimidating, Reggie Lee addedunpredictability to his desperate character as Mei's "father," andRobert John Burke was just awesome as the corrupt Captain Wolf.Safe definitely revived my faith that Jason Statham could still pickgreat action movies. The complex story line and series of events madethis a very fun ride for action audiences. I give it a 9/10.

Safe - No bad guy is safe in this movie

I loved this movie. Jason Statham had me flinching throughout the wholemovie. I felt bad for the bad guys; no one was a match for him. Thismovie was action packed and the little Asian girl-costar was great. Shewas bad-ass in her own way. Very independent, smart-mouth, andintelligent. I would have gave this movie a 10, but they didn't letJason fight the business suit guy named Alex. Everyone kept saying thatJason was no match for Alex. And after seeing Alex take out those 5Asian guys with just a pen; I was really looking forward to seeing himand Jason go at it. Now that would of been a fight to see. And wedidn't get a chance to see a picture of his wife. It felt a littleincomplete. Other than that I loved it.

Jason Statham at his absolute best.

This film is the most fun I had at the theaters along with "Haywire"and The Hunger Games; films that have thrilled me while at the sametime giving me food for thought. Safe doesn't exactly fit the abovecriteria, but what it does is deliver a well-written action thrillerwith twists and turns in the plot to get any interested viewer bang fortheir buck.Statham stars as Luke Wright, a down-on-his-luck cage fighter who getscaught up in a dangerous situation that leaves him with no will to liveany longer. At first he appears to want to give it all up, but a chanceencounter with girl with a secret gives him his second calling and heunwittingly becomes her guardian angel. But the two are entangled in apower struggle over the girl's gift. Thus the ride has begun.Boaz Yakim handles the action and script really well. it's only thatsome of the dialog that becomes contrived and forced, but that doesn'tslow down the film at all. The action scenes are, however, reallyimpressive; showing off Statham's mad skills as an action star and he'sreally good at being both formidable and vulnerable at the same time. With his steely stare and narrow eyes, he's one mean man you don't wantto mess with unless you value your very life. But it's newcomerCatherine Chan that really shines in her first ever feature-film role. With a wide variety of emotions, she is horribly confused and scared atwhat's unfolding before her very eyes. And Reggie Lee is simply good asthe villainous lackey to an ever deliciously evil James Hong as crimeboss Hang Jiao. But even with all that, if the filmmakers stripped it of it's actionfilm hijinks, at it's core is a story of two complete strangers comingto each other's aid. Sadly the film never delivers more on thesentiment between the two characters's personal emotions. There arehints of a developing relationship, but it's overshadowed by the actionscenes, which are impressive, undermines the emotional aspect betweenLuke and Mei. The ending(which I will not spoil) leaves it open to thepossibility of a sequel. I really wish to see a follow up to this filmbecause the film has a really fascinating dynamic on which to build on.But despite all it's problems, Safe is a good action thriller withtwists that keep you guessing and action scenes that will marvel you.

Shoot now ... ask questions... never.

Outstanding, written and directed by, first five minutes of expositionskillfully tells you everything you need to know. If action is yourpreferred genre you will enjoy this movie.A bad ass, takes on bad Russians, bad Chinese and bad cops. The violence is way over the top, so much so the all male audienceactually laughed at the dispatching of some the generic henchman.Good performances all around. Just enough sharp dialogue to provide afew laughs. Not much to think about, and not much time to think. Atjust over ninety minutes it is well paced and moves quickly from oneviolent scene to the next.

I could make it work for me!

SAFE - You should remind yourself about Transporter which the legendaryaction Hero, Jason Statham put such a great acting to certainly made usdying for another sequels. Though I believe it would be impossible forthis one. But again, impossible is nothing right? Audiences weretalking about the greatly expected movies such as The Avengers Movie,or perhaps to those who prefer Johnny Depp on screen would go for DarkShadows. Don't get me wrong, I do like both of these movies even thoughI don't quite have the time to take a watch out (heh..), but Safe wasreally a great movie. First reason why, is the fact that you'll neverget bored by the plot and obviously the actions, which is very synonymsto Mr. Statham's movies. You'll be surprised when the first 80minuteswas never realized until the movie almost done! Luke Wright was verysimilar to Frank Martin's role in The Transporter, except he nevertransport thing, and never get paid. Eventually... (I should not sayanything about this, go watch!) It was really a satisfying movie. Thegenius Mei (played by Catherine Chan) with the every gangs and thekey/code to the mystery, you gonna be thrilled. Just don't expect toomuch, but I can guarantee you the 94minutes of watching will be justgreat! Still, put the Avengers and the Dark Shadows (yes, I am!) onyour list! A 4-stars!

No-Brainer

One of the worst things a movie can do is not deliver to the audiencewhat they expect out of a certain kind of film. This one delivers, withgun battles and violence in the John Woo tradition. That is, bad guysfall at a fast and frequent repetitive rate. The savant child in danger has been done better in Mercury Rising(1998) but this is a B-Picture variant that is nothing if it is not anadrenaline rush. There is virtually no one on screen that is good, except of course our little girl, and the half-good ("he is a killingmachine, but he is honest"...says the Mayor) protector (ex-cop, ex-cagefighter). There are Chinese Mafia, Russian Mafia, corrupt cops, corruptpoliticians all there to cause suffering from anyone who is unfortunateenough to get in their way. That sets up a lot of targets for the action and they are "brought tojustice" with gleeful gun-play. The sheer mayhem and lack of coherencymay find some viewers irritated and wondering, what's up? Not much, except a NYC battle zone of bad guys getting theirs.Even our child friend get's in on the fun..."I saw him fight, badbusiness for you". It certainly is bad business for anyone to stand inthe way of the Jason Statham juggernaut.

Not one of Stathams best but not one of his worst either...

Over the past couple of years I've grown a liking to Statham. He's athrowback to the old days of action movies of the 80's and 90's andthis films is a throwback itself. He's made plenty of great movies(Crank, The Transporter, The Mechanic). Out of all his films thisprobably is around the middle for me, its better than films like DeathRace and Killer Elite in my opinion. Safe is well done in terms of goodaction, interesting story and its well paced. One of the things I didn'tlike is how the film takes some twists and turns which kind of makesthe films plot a little convoluted. But other than that the movies notbad,if your a fan of Statham i'd give it a watch. I personally thinkits a good movie you can watch more than once just to kill some timewhen your bored or when your craving some action.Overall: 6.5/10

Statham and some great fight sequences elevate an otherwise mediocre film

If writer/director Boaz Yakin just keeps making films with JasonStatham, I may just forgive him for his involvement in the travestythat was the '80's Punisher film. Well OK not THAT, but perhaps itwould however cleanse my mouth of the rancid taste that From Dusk TilDawn 2 left.Did he suddenly get better at writing decent dialog?? No not really,it's still clichéd and trite, however the mere strong presence ofStatham as Luke Wright an ex-cop, ex-MMA fighter whom loses everythinghe holds dear when he doesn't throw a fight with a 'YouTube sensation'.Finding redemption by helping a whiz kid who's running from the samevillains that are after him. The saving grace of this film are Jasonand his above average fight scenes, without which this movie would'vebeen barely rentable.

Overshadowed by The Avengers

Safe is a great movie for those who love action movies! There areplenty of twists and turns during the film. As a lover of the TV series24, this movie almost made me feel like I was watching Jack Baueragain. I thought that the acting was decent, but with characters fromso many different backgrounds, it was probably difficult to cast asuperb group. Lots of new faces in this film, and also a lot offamiliar faces. One thing that takes away from this film is the beginning of the movie. For the first 10-15 minutes, it's very hard to follow exactly what isgoing on. I thought the writers tried to hard to have a opening scenethat caught your attention, and they ended up putting too much stuff inthat scene. Overall, this is a very enjoyable action movie. This is the type ofmovie I'd watch with all my buddies!

Could have been America's "The Man from Nowhere" but..

You go into a Jason Statham movie with a certain set of expectations. That you are going to be treated to some quality action scenes whichwould contain jaw breaking and rib twisting punches. That the gunfights would be awesome with plenty of kills. That there would beenough car chases reminiscent of his first hit, The Transporter. Thismovie ticks all these boxes and surprisingly provides some back storyalso on the two main characters of the film, Statham and the child heis trying to protect. The first half hence passes in a breeze. Justwhen you start thinking that this is going to turn out to be anexcellent thriller, the mundane things start happening, order isrestored and that is extremely disappointing. this had the potential tobe the American "The Man from Nowhere". I am disappointed that it endswoefully short of what it promised. 2.5 out of 5 for this.

Good concept, starts well, but non-stop violence, lots of shooting and killing derailed it for my wife and me.

We saw this on DVD from our public library.Jason Statham is Luke Wright, former super cop and now martial artsfighter. He seems to make more money for fixing fights than foractually winning them. This becomes important when he is pitted againsta lackluster opponent who went down with one punch, and now the Russianmob is after him for losing their money. But that is only a part of his problem. While dodging his own detectionin the subway, he spots a young Chinese girl, about 10, seeminglyhiding to avoid a group of men, who apparently are trying to find her.She gets on the train, four men follow her, and then Luke has to chasedown the train and board it in an unconventional manner. Just adds tothe action. The girl is Catherine Chan as Mei . We see her back-story in aflashback, she is a genius back in China, plus she can look at acomplicated series of numbers and memorize them. She is taken away andbrought to New York where she uses her talents to help the Chinese mobknow which gambling operations are solid and which are not. This startsthe killing we see, lackluster operators are just executed. But Mei gets an even bigger assignment, which involves a coded safecombination in a large matrix of numbers. Then she becomes a target ofseveral different groups. Luke takes it upon himself to be herprotector. That he has to kill quickly and often is just part of whathe has to do. He basically has to deal with three groups, the Chinesemob, the Russian mob, and a small group of corrupt police. All whiletrying to get to the safe with $30Million.The movie has an excellent premise, and starts well. But both my wifeand I tuned it out about half-way with the non-stop shooting andkilling. It is clear, the movie was written and directed to feature thegun battles, which for the most part are done well, but why do movielike this have to feature so much violence? That spoiled it for us.

No hidden treasure in this safe

Jason Statham is at it again, earning his keep the only way he knowshow: punching and kicking his way through the Chinese and Russian mobsand the New York Police Department. As ex-cop Luke Wright, he isreduced to cage fighting and sleeping in shelters after he snitches onhis corrupt colleagues. It's just his luck that he comes across Mei(Chan), a 12-year-old Chinese girl with superhuman memory who carriesin her head a complex series of numbers. It's also just his luck thatMei is a pawn of Chinese mob boss Han Jiao (Hong), and police captainWolf (Robert Burke) is playing both the Chinese and the Russians as allthree parties hunt down Luke and his new charge.A YouTube comment on the trailer for the film said it best – "I likedit better when it was called "Mercury Rising". Indeed, the earlierBruce Willis film was more entertaining, and Miko Hughes, who playedthe kid with special abilities in it, was a far better child actor thanCatherine Chan is. Safe is not so much outright bad as it is painfullyderivative and almost profoundly generic. As usual, Jason Statham isplaying the only character he ever plays, the gruff and street smartguy who also happens to be a skilled martial artist and sharpshooter. The brutal action sequences in the movie are so-so – like most of themovie, they're not awful, it's just that we've seen the like many timesbefore. There are some shootouts in gambling dens and hotels, a subwaytrain brawl and a car chase with Statham driving against NYC traffic –normal action movie fare. As far as the plot is concerned, it's justall too straightforward. There are no real surprises or curve balls –it's just as well that everything unfolds quickly enough. The crooked cops that make up one third of the movie's villains and themayor whom they answer to are as flat and one-note as they come. So arethe Russian bad guys – poor Igor Jijikine, most famous as Col.Dovchenko in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, isprobably stuck playing Russian mob henchmen for the rest of his career. Also, James Hong's Mandarin Chinese is pretty bad, probably due to allthe years he's spent in the States. And let's not forget thestereotypical portrayal of Chinese people as maths geniuses, mobstersor convenience store owners. It was rather bold of the filmmakers todemonize the entire NYPD, though."I've seen him fight. Bad business for you," deadpans Mei. Altogether, this was pretty bad business for Statham and company – at its worst; itseems almost like a throwaway direct-to-video action thriller. Here'shoping Statham redeems himself come The Expendables 2 a little laterthis year.

SAFE: A Safe Bet for Hard-Hitting, Quick-Paced Action

A gifted adolescent girl forcibly brought to the US from China isrescued by chance by a distraught stranger in Safe. The two must thensafeguard themselves as they embark on a dangerously clever undertakingto outwit the bad guys, who highly revile the man and want to exploitthe girl's rare talent for personal gain. Can the unlikely pair pulloff a 'mission-impossible?' Isn't that the joy of cinema: being able tosuspend reality? With imagination and creative license—anything ispossible, right? Still, the random encounter seems far-fetched, giventheir meeting occurs at such a dire time in Jason Statham's life(Crank, Expendables and upcoming Expendables 2). Just the sheercoincidence of it happening at the very moment he decides to chuck itall, goes against all odds. You can only suspend reality so far beforeglaring lack of a crucial element like probability has to be attributedto either a hole in the script or its editing. When Statham eyesseveral crooked cops he recognizes in a New York City subway pursuingthe distressed minor named Mei, whom he later discovers is a virtualorphan, he immediately springs to her aid. After winning her trust hebecomes Mei's sole protector and is determined to keep her safe. Theyoung actress does an exceptional job as an innocent, mathematical whizkid pandering to the familiar stereotype of Asian students possessingnatural abilities in math and science (although they do rank higherthan American-born schoolchildren). It's safe to say, Safe initiallyoffers little discernment. The art of flashback necessary forsetting-up and/or establishing the back-story—handled effectively bymost filmmakers—is wholly underutilized. Key events needed to lead intothe present day drama, are blindly glossed over and insufficiently usedfor the full benefit of clarity—at the onset and part-way through. Alack of overly brutal bloody scenes didn't earn it a less thanR-rating. The story eventually culminates into a hard-hitting,quick-paced action thriller—and crowd pleaser, although it takes a bitlonger to get there. In the role of ex-cage fighter, Stathamdemonstrates how deft he is at fighting off multiple opponents, provingagain that he can hold his own rivaling past big screen tough, austeregood guy-at-heart/heroes in his quest to protect the frightenedyoungster. The audience agreed, cheering and applauding thewell-orchestrated, intense brawls in which the British actor displayspure brawn. However the overused rapid-fire pacing likely deployed thesake of intensity, not only reflects an uncommon, unmistakable flaw ofcontemporary films but also unfortunately, a sign of the times.

A formula that still works

What can one say about a Jason Statham movie? It's a Jason Stathammovie! A Jason Statham movie is cloned from a Jean-Claude Van Dammemovie or a Steven Seagal movie (which were in turn clones of BruceLee). Kick- fighting, shoot-outs, car chases, subway chases, streetchases: it's a formula which pretty well always appeals to its targetaudience. Statham, not just a toned bod and a husky voice, somehowmanages to inject some soul into the characters he plays. The frantic pace - and Statham's on-screen charisma - are guaranteed tokeep the audience on the edge of their seats. Is SAFE formulaic? - yes,but it's terrific fun.

Great Action Movie!

I thought this was a great action movie. Jason Statham is a wonderfulaction movie actor anyway and his talents in that area were not wastedhere. The girl that played the female lead opposite him, CatherineChan, really did a great job. They didn't make her seem whinny, nor didthey make her look overly street smart. The movie didn't suddenly havea romantic plot that didn't have a point to the movie. There were acouple spots where you thought there would be a "predictable" outcometo the scene that didn't happen. And there were other twists in themovie that I thought made it even more interesting. Also, I thought itended so there was a possibility of a sequel. It was just allaction.....great action!

E ticket ride of a film

You gotta love Jason Statham movies!!!!! The one thing that they do notlack is action, and this film is no exception!!! It's got dirty cops,Russian Mafia, and the Chinese Syndicate; throw in a twelve (12) yearold mathematics genius with a photogenic memory, and you have theformula for a very exciting, highly enjoyable, E ticket ride of a film.Jason Statham is Luke Wright, a former NYC policeman, turned New JerseyMMA fighter. When he accidentally knocks out his opponent in a fixedfight, the Russian Mafia kills his wife but spares his in order tocontinue their torment on him. He must continue to live his life;however, he cannot have any interaction with any other living person orrisk their death. As he contemplates taking his own live in a NYCsubway terminal, he cannot help but notice a frighten Chinese girl(Mai) and some Russian thugs in her pursuit. Upon rescuing her from herassailants, he promises her safety as he tries to figure out the secretcontained in a long list of numbers that she was forced to memorize.Like I said, the action sequences in this film are amazing, andnon-stop. The storyline is fresh, and the Statham character isenduring. I liked this film, and definitely can recommend it. It's theperfect Saturday afternoon flick to be enjoyed with a big bag ofpopcorn, and a jumbo diet coke. So buckle up for the ride of your life, you will not be disappointed!!!

Safe bet for straight to DVD

Another Jason Stratham vehicle. A film begging to be dubbed into everyforeign language available and aimed squarely at the DVD market. The production values are adequate. The acting is adequate. The scriptis adequate. It was just never worth a trip to the cinema. And odd thatKevin Spacey is listed as producer. He must've wanted a safe bet forhis investment.I appreciate Mr Stratham's dialog is pretty monosyllabic but he couldhave at least attempted to maintain an American accent throughout. Inthe circumstances, it wasn't a big ask.Given a decent role and a challenging script -- one where he isn'texpected to play the hard man/troubled hero -- I'm pretty sure he couldturn in an admirable performance but he seems content to play it safeand be top of the B-list. I'm sure it pleases his bank manager atleast. If you like his movies I guess you'll like this. If you don't, it won'tconvert you. It's all a bit meh.

Quality Statham

You're a man with no friends left in the world thinking about doingyourself and your enemies a favor and ending your life. Moments beforeyou can carry out your plan, however, you see a young girl in need ofyour help. Do you go to her aid? If your answer is no, you justshortened this movie by about 98%.When we first meet Luke Wright (played by Jason Statham), he's won amixed martial arts bout that the Russian mob "encouraged" him to lose.An easy enough task given the fact that he already had a losing record. After they assault him, he believes the worst is behind him. Thatproves to be false when he returns home to find members of the sameRussian mob have killed his girlfriend (or wife, I'm not entirely sureand the information sources I've checked are silent on the matter).Rather than kill him, he's left as the prime suspect in the homicideand told to leave the mob's territory. On the other side of the world,a ten year- old Chinese student named Mei (played by Catherine Chan inher first feature film) demonstrates an exceptional gift forremembering numbers regardless of length or complexity. When the natureof her gift becomes common knowledge in her hometown, she becomes theward of a local businessman with consent of her father whose hands arefull thanks to her mother's serious illness. The businessman is amember of the Triads, Chinese organized crime for those who areunfamiliar, and intends to use her gift in America in lieu of writtenor computer files, as both can be seized by law enforcement. In time, they trust her unflinchingly and ask her to remember a very long numberand relay it to the Russians who will give her another number to bringback. But when her escorts are shot en route to the Russians, she runsand they chase her. She makes it to the subway where a despondent Luke(Statham) subdues her pursuers and makes himself the one man in NewYork who the Triads, the Russians, and the NYPD officers on theirpayroll all want dead. Now, I like Jason Statham. While I don't own copies of any film ineither the Transporter series or the Crank series, I do own do own DVDsof The Mechanic and Death Race despite the fact that both filmsreceived generally negative reviews from the majority of critics. However that might reflect on my credibility, I thought that this was avery entertaining action film.
