This year's Marvel vs DC competition has officially begun.I've watched all the latest adaptations of Iron Man, Thor, CaptainAmerica, and Hulk. I'd say Iron Man 1 is the best among those. Butpersonally speaking, I think even four of them merged into one stillwon't be enough to beat The Dark Knight's shadows. This year, again, the race's on. The Avengers' release marked it. TheAvengers is a story about a couple of superheroes, struggling toprotect the Earth as one from Loki of Asgard—Thor's adopted brother. Our main heroes are Captain America/Steve Rogers, Iron Man/Tony Stark,Hulk/Bruce Banner, and Thor. In addition to the team, there are BlackWidow/Natasha Romanoff and Hawkeye/Clint Barton, the S.H.I.E.L.D.expert agents. In spite of everything, their differences createfrictions and boundaries between themselves. It turns out thesuperheroes' previous self-titled movies are in fact connected. And in my opinion, The Avengers is better than four of its heroes'movies merged into one.First of all, the acting. The character development's pretty good, evenif you haven't watched the self-titled movies. The characters havetheir own colors, and the casts' portrayals are good enough to show it.Tony Stark is a smart, womanizer millionaire who only cares abouthimself. Robert Downey Jr fits him really well. Steve has a trueheroine attitude and he always wants to do the right thing. Chris Evansgives the heart to the Captain's character. Thor is a spontaneous andtemperamental God of Thunder, sometimes I can't help but thinking he'sannoying—but I wouldn't be annoyed if Chris Hemsworth didn't act good.Bruce is a very calm and helpful person, as smart as Stephen Hawkingwhen he's not in his 'big guy' form. Mark Ruffalo's not bad as the'bullied' Hulk. Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner are perfect as theagents. To conclude, with all the good and the bad, at least you can'feel' their existence, you can get attached easily to them.No comment to the CGI and special effects, we know Marvel studios'works well enough. The photography succeeded to depict the situationsand catch the action schemes. Costume's great. The music isn'tIndiana-Jones kind of remarkable, but still is good; it flows alongwith the scenes. The script's also good, with ample dose of humor. Ithas some a-little- bit-too-dramatic lines, though, but not beyondtolerance. After all, it's still cool, and good job at givingpersonalities to the characters. If you're looking for fun, yes, thismovie's entertaining. Now about the movie. The first 10-15 minutes is decent. From that on,the first half has some character confrontation scenes that seemed alittle bit unnatural to me. I mean Natasha does know it's Loki's planto divide them, and Steve does realize it as well. And despite his'whatever' behavior, I think Tony Stark is smart enough to analyze thesituation. So why did they keep fighting with each other? Anotherproblem is the amount of talk in the first half. Not necessarilytroubling but I wanted more pictures rather than words. There are alsosome inconsistencies regarding the heroes' strength. But don't worry, the second half will not disappoint you. The second half rocks, thebattle and all. Just enjoy the ride.Overall, I'd give a 8.5/10. But it sounds more like a 9 than an 8 tome. And yeah, I recommend you to watch The Avengers. By far, TheAvengers is doing really well worldwide, but we know ChristopherNolan's Batman isn't going to let us down anytime soon. So once again, let the race begin. We shall sit and wait and see what's going tohappen next. |

Great Superhero movie for Kids but nowhere near what I expected!OK glad to start doing reviews on IMDb. The Avengers 'WHAT A MOVIE' seems to be the line on everybody's lips.Well I am going to say after seeing it both 3D and 2D that I can makean honest objective opinion. The special effects which whether you like it or not is one of themovie's highlights. YES they are GOOD and nicely done BUT why the 3D?Why did I pay for a 3D movie where the 3D was never used in his pureawesomeness? Yes it's cheesy and cheap to see boulders, pieces ofbuildings tires, arrows explosions and all sort of stuff flying towardsyou but it's ALSO FUN & that's why you go to see it in 3D. Well let metell you this movie HAS NONE of that. No Sir it's just simple digital3D shots of New York and other stuff! NOTHING SPECIAL...sad to see thatafter 3-4 years AVATAR still holds the CROWN it should give you an ideaabout this.Acting is good all the way to great. AND YES Tony Stark (Robert DowneyJR. steals the show) which can be good if your a fan like me but canalso be bad for the rest of the crew. He is great the others are OK.HULK is amazing but then again he is CGI!The story and here is where it starts to get annoying. Guys some ofthese characters did not have they're own movie so it's hard to relateto them get to care for them especially when you won't have enough timeto do so...So why so much Black Widow? Then again why no drama noconnections between them. I honestly expected to see Captain Americafall for Black Widow as the comic books say. Still it's the 1st part sothere is time but make's you feel like you haven't been treated withthe whole cake but a cookie.Going to the action scene is where I get disappointed! AlienInvasion??? Where in the middle of New York with no real damage to thecity. What happened to the BIG BOOMS and explosions. Where the hell wasthe ARMY? Where were all those special weapons STARK created for solong. Where the hell was WAR MACHINE as the Air Force Commander. No Sirhere you will only see a bunch of cops (fat ones also) fightingalongside our 6 fellas to protect the city. And the only idea thegovernment has is to NUKE the city 10 minutes after the invasion. VeryORIGINAL it was one of those sad moments in my life as a movieenthusiast where I actually did MISSED Michael Bay and his explosionsand action scenes. Again you can make an idea about the War Scene.Ending this review with my last disappointment! I know I know it'a a PGmovie but PLEASE stop making it so if you going to loose every bit ofdrama left in the movie. Yes you won't see swearing in the movie orblood or naked women or at least people dying. NO NO this is a kidsmovie with superheroes that is no where near as good as IMDb score isnow. I felt cheated because my expectation for this movie were huge!Final conclusion both the new SpiderMan & Batman are going to swipe thefloor with this movie so PLEASE stop calling it the BEST SUPERHEROMOVIE OF THE YEAR! |

How this movie is anything less than a 9 is beyond meThis was by far one of the best Marvel movies made to date. The action, acting and comedy laced in were on point through out the whole film. The best part has to be when Hulk did his smashing of Loki and calledhim a puny God. That stuff was super funny and entertaining. I can'twait until the next Avengers and what it brings. All the characterswere super entertaining and I'm glad they were able to bring in A listactors to do the job. Do NOT go cheap on the 2nd one please! Thanos atthe end was a great teaser so definitely looking forward to that. Ididn't mind Mark being the Hulk this time and he would be good to playthe next movie as well. It would be nice to see some guy play the Hulkmore than once and he does look the closest to the old Bruce Bannersfrom the original TV series. |

Superhero CollageJoss Whedon is a nerd treasure, after having earned his geek streetcred with some of the most iconic TV shows and characters around. Myfavourite of his creations remains "Firefly", an all-aroundextraordinary show, at the same time my deep dislike for Fox after thecancellation of said show, also remains intact. It was the popularityof the show and the loyalty of the fans which brought Joss Whedon backwith his fond and well deserved closing act (?) to the Firefly saga, inthe form of the excellent but oft overlooked "Serenity". It was throughdirecting "Serenity" that Joss Whedon showed that he can easily andcomfortably venture beyond TV land and into feature films. Hiscolleague JJ Abrahms (and his gang) also made that same successfulleap. It thus came as no great surprise that "The Avengers" turned out to besuch a fun ride, not to mention an insanely profitable one. It speaksto the vision and talent of the man who helmed the project, and whatthat imagination and talent can do when given the appropriateresources.Whedon managed to take the several superhero movies which served asinterconnected instalments or prequels of sorts to this movie, "IronMan" 1 and 2, "The Incredible Hulk" "Captain America: The FirstAvenger" and "Thor", and successfully and quite masterfully bring themall under the umbrella of "The Avengers", a fitting conclusion (thoughI'm sure based on the end-credits that a sequel is in the works) tothis whole Marvel Universe enterprise.I am not as floored with the movie as the audiences apparently are, butgiven the number of actors and characters populating the screen, Whedondid an admirable job letting them all share the spotlight, whilekeeping the story rolling. He was able to imbue the story with enoughsubstance and gravitas so as to prevent the movie from becoming justanother unremarkable, brainless, big-budged popcorn dud (yeah, yeah"John Carter" and "Battleship" you're what I had in mind) "The Avengers" does not come close in quality to the quite unfairlyoverlooked "X-Men: First Class" (or any of Nolan's Batman flicks), butfor what it was meant to be, a summertime season opener, it more thanachieved its purpose (and probably set the standard, at leastmoney-wise, too high and potentially out of reach for the otherbig-budget releases of the summer). If nothing else, I can say I had fun watching "The Avengers", but withJoss Whedon at the wheel you do get something extra in terms of qualityover quantity.Bravo Whedon! I'm looking forward to you spreading your wings evenfurther. |

Not as good as I expectedDate: 27 June, 2012 -First Time Watch- Like everyone else, I wasinterested in seeing 'The Avengers' so I finally went to go see itafter it came out over a month ago and has grossed over six hundredmillion. After the movie was over, I realized it wasn't as good as Ithought it would be. The storyline was like ever other action movie.Bad guy wants something. Some complications between the group. Lots ofcars flying around. Good guys win. Why does this movie do better? Don'task me. I'm not saying the movie was terrible, it was enjoyable for themost part (Downey had some awesome one liners!) but it wasn'tspectacular. If you want see this movie, definitely go see it at thetheaters. If you want till DVD, I'll think you'll be disappointed evenmore since you weren't in the theater to get the whole experience.Overall, seven out of ten stars.7/10 |

Was it great? No. Good? Only just...Lots of money, lots of CGI, high-powered cast, half-assed story. Thatabout sums up the latest Joss Whedon extravaganza.**spoilers** The story: clunky. It doesn't flow easily. Joss Whedon'sscript is okay, and even hints at deeper themes, but is ultimately abit tacky and shallow. Some welcome laughs here and there, but prettyaverage scripting.IMDb at time of writing has it at 8.6. 8.6? Not even close. Flat 7 atbest. I'm giving it 5 because, for all that money (and there was a hellof a lot of it), it's a pretty poor effort.Big time films seem to be in a trend of having convoluted storiesrather than great storytelling, and The Avengers follows that trend. The whole "causing dissension among the ranks" fails significantlybecause it relies on the super-heroes forgetting all the struggles &personal growth they've been through in previous films. The Avengerstries to present them as reluctant, and egotistical (which of coursethey luckily overcome), but they've already been through things likethis in their own films. Why have they regressed? Perhaps the reason isthat Hollywood largely eschews the time-tested concept of charactergrowth for flashy SFX that the kiddies like so much. It's sad, andresults in hollow films. Like The Avengers, for example. The CGI: Pretty good, but has flying worms ala the latest Transformersflick, but not as cool. The cast: Not too bad. Scarlett Johansson in a tight outfit, and theusual cast of Robert Downey Jnr, Chris Evans etc etc.Overall, it's got high-wattage stars, lots of CGI, and not much impact, tension or heart.Better than Battleship (as if that was hard), not as good as Iron Man1. Enjoyable and immediately forgettable. It'll make loads of money andprobably even a sequel. |

Yup. They did it right.Guess I'll come out and say it right away: The Avengers may be the bestsuperhero movie made to date. It has plenty of action, anunderstandable plot, multiple and discernible heroes, plenty of laughs, and terrific effects. Now, I'll admit it: everyone else seems to besaying the same thing. So do I need to maintain my integrity as anamateur reviewer- person by going against the grain and finding faultwith the movie? Or can I feel secure in my own opinion, even if it'sshared by fanboys and nonfans alike? (Hint: it's the latter.) Who areThe Avengers, anyway? Well, there's Captain America (Steve Rogers),who's actually from the 1940s but was frozen for about seventy years. There's Iron Man (Tony Stark), a man in a weaponized metal suit. There's The Hulk (Bruce Banner), who smashes. There's Black Widow(Natasha Romanoff), a superspy with some powers of her own. There'sHawkeye (Clint Barton), a master archer. And then there's Thor, a Norsegod. We've been introduced to most of them already through their ownfilms, so they seem like old pals to us. Helps cut down on backstoryissues, anyway. It seems that Loki, the half-brother of Thor, has decided to open up aportal from his side of the universe to Earth itself, thus allowing arampaging army of aliens to come in and slaughter us wholesale. ColonelNick Fury, who's been recruiting our heroes to fight as a team, callseveryone in from wherever they were. They don't know each other, exceptby reputation. Can they stop bickering long enough to save theuniverse? It is possible.I mentioned before that our heroes are, well, discernible. This is nosmall feat, considering how many there are in the movie. Tony Stark isa narcissist. Steve Rogers is an anachronism. Bruce Banner has anger-management issues. Natasha is manipulative; Barton is manipulated. They're simultaneously human and superhuman. After assembling his team, Fury gives them the skinny. Banner's job isto find the Tesserac's location, an artifact that can produce immensepower – or be wielded as an immense weapon. Supposedly, the Tesserac ishigh in gamma radiation, something Dr. Banner knows a little bit about.Meanwhile, the others are tasked with finding Loki, who's quite thebadass. All of this is directed by Fury from a flying fortress thatalso can float. Kind of neat.Without the burden of needing backstories for everyone, writer/directorJoss Whedon is free to throw thrills at us. The fight scenes areplausible and, at times, not at all cartoonish. This means that youngerkids (it's a PG-13 movie) might find it a little intense. But there'svery little blood, and what's seen is more like scratches on a face, orsomething. At any rate, although it's an unapologetically violentmovie, it's carefully done; the amazing set pieces don't get in the wayof a compelling story fraught with plenty of angst and anguish. This ishow Transformers should have been.Boy, is there conflict. It's not as if the superheroes all show upmentally on board with Fury's plan. Not only are some of them mad athim, they snipe a little at each other. Sometimes this is the work ofthe masterful Loki; sometimes it's the natural difficult of strangersneeding to form a cohesive unit. The acting is superb. Nick Fury is a role for which the estimableSamuel L. Jackson was born to play (and which he's played as a cameo inseveral movies already). Scarlett Johanssen picks up where she left offas Black Widow in Iron Man, and Robert Downey Jr., to no one'ssurprise, is effortlessly suave and jerkish as Stark. Chris Evans, asthe idealistic Captain, and Chris Hemsworth, as the mighty but humbledThor, are both terrific as well. Mark Ruffalo makes for a quietlyintense Banner (and portrayed The Hulk via special effects). JeremyRenner, seen very briefly in the Thor movie, is Hawkeye, a characterwith which most of us had had no prior exposure; Renner, however, giveshis character so much depth that we're involved in his side story evenmore than we are with the others. So why wouldn't you watch this movie? It does have a lot of action, soif you hate that you should skip it. It's over two hours long, so ifyou don't like to sit, you should also skip it. It has strong femalecharacters, hissable villains, heroes of all sizes, complicated lovestories that sit in the background, and the fate of all mankind restingin the balance. Wait, I was supposed to be giving reasons not to watchit. Too bad, I've run out. |

About as Exciting as Watching 'Frosty The Snowman' for the Tenth Time!Storytelling as an art? What's that? And, who cares, anyway? WhenHollywood makes tons of money off of bad movies, then where's thefinancial incentive to make decent films? 2012 is turning out to theworst year in decades (and I have been going to the movies for over 40years, so that's saying something) for really bad blockbusters: first,Hunger Games; next,Dark Shadows; and now The Avengers!I am so sick and tired of New York City, specifically the island ofManhattan, being attacked in the movies. Hello! It was attacked in reallife only a little over 10 years ago costing the lives of over 3,000+real people, including my brother's co-worker, wife and unborn child! But what is really despicable is that at the very end of the TheAvengers you briefly get to see a real-life news photo from 9/11mourning the dead. That's just plain, disgusting exploitation! But lets not stop there! At the end of the film we get to briefly heara local New York State Senator rant about how our Avenger heroes"wrecked Manhattan." That our heroes who just risked their lives in a1,000+ ways are to "blame" for all the destruction! Fine! I agree manypoliticians are real jerks, but to put the letter "D" next to thisSenator's name speaks volumes about the films real message: Democratsholding elective office are nothing more than ungrateful, winy creeps! That's real cute! I thought Hollywood was sooooooo liberal! If yougoing to interject politics into a film then why not put a "R" afterthe Senator's name? After all, the Republicans in Congress fought toothand nail to prevent the establishment of a Federally funded medicalfund for First Responders whose health was permanently impaired bybreathing in all the toxic waste that was released into the air! The Avengers is also plain boring with the most two-dimensionalcharacters in the history of film making! Sure I wanted the good guysto win! Sure the guys have cute muscles and the gals are all pretty! But, really now, who cares when there is zero character development andthe storyline is about as exciting as watching Frosty The Snowman forthe tenth time! The last third of the Avengers is nothing more than war porn! I willnever watch another super hero movie that has a character from TheAvengers as long as I live! Even for free, or if Hollywood offers me amillion dollars! Overall, Hollywood has done a decent job with theX-men and the Fanatic Four, but for some reason the right-wing kookswho control the Avenger characters have turned them into nothing morethan an exploitative moneymaking machine. No wonder why Stan Lee was sohappy in his cameo appearance at the end of the film! It's just too badhe and the rest of Hollywood has to stoop so low to make a buck! |

One of the best superhero movies ever madeLook I'm never one for analyzing superhero movies too much. Theyusually fail to impress although the last 2 featuring the individualAvengers namely Thor and Captain America were definitely cause to behopeful. Then comes along a trailer of "Avengers" containing animpressive ensemble of superheroes Thor, Iron Man, Captain America,Hawkeye, Black Widow and most importantly The Hulk.OK, so it can either be something or nonsense, thought I.But I seriously never thought that I would come out of the theater witha smile saying that it was totally worth it. I repeat the summarystatement, Avengers is probably the best superhero movie ever made. Ithas the story, which is although not unlike many other such movies, butis treated and presented very very well. Well, I don't know about you,but at least me and a sizable few million other people loved it. Theaction does not disappoint in the least but instead of making theaudience run headlong into it, it is built up slowly but surely. Thedialogs, the pace, the visuals and the story overall make this one hellof a watch.Seriously, you will not be disappointed. |

Five years of assembling; four superheroes; one epic movie!Over the past twelve years or so, the market has been pummeled bysuperhero films. It's gotten to the point where Marvel itself hasbecome a studio all on its own, with the resources and corporatestrength to make its own products and keep them uniform. In the pastfive years, the releases of "Iron Man," "The Incredible Hulk," "Thor,"and "Captain America" have all been carefully planned and marketed sothat the ultimate mash-up of superheroes can be brought to the bigscreen. With so many characters from so many different films by so manydifferent directors starring so many different actors, I imagine thatbringing all of these story lines together and making them coherentcould have been disastrous under lesser talents (or, it could haveeasily been ruined by too much post-production tampering by studioexecutives, as it was with "X-Men Origins: Wolverine").Rest assured: "The Avengers" is a well-oiled and carefully-constructedmachine, which successfully pumps out the fun. The action in the firsthalf generally doesn't disappoint; there are a whole bunch ofimpressive fight scenes among the different superheroes, and even amongthe minor characters, before things shape up and lead into a massivegrand finale. The mass destruction throughout the finale is trulyawe-inspiring, and each hero gets their fair share of action. But whatreally makes this film work is that the tone is perfect for this typeof summer blockbuster. There is enough humor throughout to keep thestory light and fun, and to keep it accessible to all audiences. It isevery bit as fun of a superhero movie as every other superhero moviebefore it; as ambitious as the project is, however, it comes quiteclose to being the end-all be-all superhero film.Fortunately, the film is not entirely shallow either. If generallyfollows the same plot formula of "The Ultimate Avengers" cartoon thatcame out in 2006; this film version is far more in-depth, especiallywith its roots dug firmly in the previously-mentioned Marvel films.Chances are that if you haven't seen these other films, you may bemissing out on some minor details concerning who the characters are, where they come from, what SHIELD is exactly, and how the variousartifacts came together for "The Avengers." Going into it blind mayleave a few folks in the dark. But even if you have the most basicknowledge of who the different characters are, you should be able topick up on it and just enjoy the ride. Even when the thrill ride isn'trunning at full speed, the film manages to keep things rolling, thankslargely to the characters and their complex interactions. Eachcharacter remains true to themselves, with hardly any scene or linethat can be considered stupid or out-of-character. Each characterserves to reinforce the idea that the Avengers team is dysfunctionaland dangerous. There are probably some finer points that get buried(such as the fate of Betty Ross, or Jane Foster (which is mentionedjust briefly), or Steve Rodger's adjustment to the 21st century (whichwas cut from the film)); ultimately, there's enough to the film wherethese points don't even come to mind that much.Cinematically, the film is every bit as slick and polished as the otherMarvel films. Photography is very solid, and looks good all the waythrough. Editing is good. Acting is top-notch: just about every actorbrings their A-game to the table. Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, ChrisHemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Samuel L Jackson allinhabit their characters very well. Mark Ruffalo is not bad playingBruce Banner; I do prefer Edward Norton and Eric Banna in the role, butRuffalo's performance is earnest and satisfying. Writing all around isgreat; the dialogue is often witty, and maintains its focus on thecharacters perfectly. This production spares no expense on the sets, props, costumes, and special effects. Music isn't bad either. This film met my expectations perfectly. Chances are that, thanks tothe hype, some may find this film overrated. Regardless, I don't reallysee anything wrong with this film, and I feel no shame in granting it aperfect score. Recommended! 5/5 (entertainment: 5/5, story: 4.5/5,film: 4.5/5) |

I'm Thunderstruck by this Film's Immense Popularity"The Avengers" is an okay superhero movie; that's it. A great deal ofthe problem is that there are too many characters at once. The viewerdoesn't get any time to understand most of the characters' backstoriesor motivations. They are suddenly called up for duty to defend theearth against the scrawny and mysterious alien supervillain based offof a Norse god. Most of the superheroes were not interesting, as theirpersonalities were not that well-developed. The exception to this isIron Man, who is wonderfully played by Robert Downey, Jr. Iron Man isdepicted as a wealthy sarcastic playboy who isn't necessarily a herofor altruistic reasons. The smarminess and smugness of Iron Man'scharacter may turn a lot of people off; but hey, at least it's a"character". There are a few scenes where the Hulk is really funny, butthat is only as the Hulk persona, rather than as Bruce Banner. The restof the superheroes are bland and undeveloped as characters. The film isalso confused as to its tone. It tries to take its superhero worldseriously, like the Tim Burton's "Batman" but also adds intongue-in-cheek humor and makes attempts to be self-referential andcampy, like the Joel Schumaker "Batmans". The balance is uneven atbest. The film's characters, with the exception of the Incredible Hulk, lackthe fame and notoriety of Superman, Batman or Spiderman to be familiarto a general audience. This film is catered to an audience intimatelyfamiliar with the Marvel Comics universe and all of its characters, which will leave an uninitiated viewer utterly clueless about who'swho. Who the heck is Black Widow? Nick Fury? Why do Thor and Loki speakin a bizarre, overly-proper form of English? Is it because they'realiens? Why should we care?It is merely a personal matter of taste, but CGI has not evolved to thepoint where the special effects look entirely real; the closestcomputer animation has gotten to being realistic is James Cameron's"Avatar", where the aliens have genuinely human expressions andmovements. The CGI in "The Avengers" is ugly to look at, particularlythe ship the Avengers use as a home base, as well as the alien invaderstowards the end. It is not worth it to pay extra for 3-D glasses towatch grey, ugly aliens riding grey, ugly spiny snakes while emergingfrom grey, ugly, bland modernistic monstrosities that pass for alienspaceships. The ultimate irony is the cheap gorilla and diving suitfrom "Robot Monster" (haven't seen the movies, just stills) looks morecreative and inspired than the effects in this movie. The point is thatthere is little color and beauty in the CGI, and it always looks morefake and lifeless than rubber puppets or furry Ewok costumes evercould. I would go so far to say that the greyness and blandness of thealien and Avengers' flying fortress design totally detracted from thepower of the action sequences. Notwithstanding the distracting CGI, theaction scenes, as stand- alone pieces, are engaging and entertaining towatch. In short, "The Avengers" lacks interesting characters and, while notentirely the fault of the filmmakers (technology still has a long wayto go in 2012 before anything approaching realism can be fullyrealized, so my criticism in unfair in that respect), the CGI wasn'tpleasant to look at. Watch "The Avengers" for the action scenes and forHulk and Iron Man, who are funny and interesting. It's a fair effort, but nothing that approaches a timeless action classic. At least theChristopher Reeve "Superman" movies were infused with tongue-in-cheekhumor and had an undeniable camp value; "The Avengers" takes itself tooseriously to become a nostalgic classic like "Superman". |

OutstandingThis is probably the best movie of 2012, I mean its got action, Its gotAMAZING special effects, and it has comedy. The story is about all ofthe avengers: Iron man, the hulk, captain America, Thor, and blackwidow joining together the fight off a huge invasion of aliens tryingto destroy the city, as well at some other bad guys. But like I said, most 2012 movies are garbage and just want to make money, and carenothing about the viewing pleasure of the audience, such as the oddlife of timothy green, and paranorman. But for every bad movie in thetheater, there is good ones, such as the new bourne movie, men in black3, the avengers, and the house at the end of the street. So wheneverthis comes out on DVD, (which should be soon), go get it |

SillyBoy, am I in trouble. Because I thought it was just plain silly.Maybe it's because I haven't seen Thor. Because I found Tom Hiddlestonso ludicrously miscast as Loki that I couldn't maintain suspension ofdisbelief.First, this deity who arrives in an awesome burst of netherworldenergy, and carries a scepter capable of slaying whole armies, has toescape sitting awkwardly in the back of a pickup truck for God's sake. And then when he stands up in his silly horned costume and tells acrowd of people to kneel to him, his complete lack of gravitas in therole just set me laughing.I couldn't watch it after that. |

too good. just too good.I didn't want anyone to spoil it for me so me n my buddy went for thefirst show on the first day.. not to mention it was a packed house inthe multiplex. This movie kicks ass and there was not one moment when wefelt bored. All the superheroes' entries were cheered by the crowd andit was Iron Man acc to me who stole the show. It was a pleasantsurprise in that it has as much humor as there was action!! By the way in reply to a previous review by Leone D'Antonio (reg BruceBanner helping patients in Calcutta): In which world is India a thirdworld country sir?? I hope you meant no offense but please watch thenews.. we have sent a probe to the moon, run a big chunk of the world'sinformation technology business, have acquired companies like Arcelor,Jaguar/Landrover.. and have a missile with a range of 7000 km! |

As Awesome As Awesome GetsThis is the movie I have waited 3 years for. And how sweet was thepayoff. The Avengers is THE summer movie as far as I'm concerned as itcombines 5 summer movies that were pretty good, and mashes themtogether for a WHAM! BOOM! BLAM! summer movie that has set the bar toohigh to even be contemplated raising. This movie pits 4 super heroesand 2 assassins against a god and an alien armada. With more explosionsand action that you asked for - but you really wanted - mixed withcomedy and drama you get *ahem* THE SUMMER MOVIE! It's almost to goodto be true! Mostly because they had Joss Whedon in the director'schair. I think that if anyone other than him or Jon Favreau (Directorof the Iron Man movies) had taken on this great deed, It would havebeen a colossal train wreck. That was my biggest worry in the weeksleading up. "Will it really be as great as I hope it will be?" Let metell you sir or ma'am, it was. If you're among the small margin ofpeople who hasn't seen it yet, buy your tickets and do it now. You'llbe glad you did. Also, stay to the very end of the credits. |

Even five of the world's most powerful superheroes could't save this movie!Did not live up to my expectations AT ALL. For a movie with such hype,it was very long and the picture was very dark. Too many overlydramatic lines, and the buildup music lasted for practically the wholemovie. I usually love superhero movies, but this one was a letdown. Idon't know why it got such great ratings. The Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, andCaptain America movies were more enjoyable on their own. I thought itwould be great to see all these heroes come together, but I think itreally just lead to so many main characters that the audience didn'tget a chance to understand any of them individually. Special effectswere great, don't get me wrong, and the 3D was cool, but that wasn'tenough to save the movie. Storyline was too stretched out.Underwhelming opening. The movie didn't evoke my emotions (I wasn'tscared, sad, excited, relieved when I should have been). A bunch ofcharacters that are interesting on their own plus special effects doesnot equal a great movie. Overall, I'm disappointed. |

The Best Marvel Film Yet.Let's be honest. This could have been one of the biggest disasters in(short) history of Marvel film Studios. Too many characters, anuntested (for blockbusters at least) director, a raft of egos, a filmpacked full of CGI effect heavy action... It could have been, shudder, another Transformers 2. Or worse even… Transformers 3. And with any other studio it probably would have been. Thank god thenthat Marvel have once again proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that whenthey bring their A game, few others can come close. Marvel have been on a rare run of form that has seen Iron Man, Thor,Captain America and, too a lesser extent, Iron Man 2 all become bothcritical and commercial successes across the globe. It's fair to saythen that The Avengers had some rather large shoes to fill. Well fearnot as Marvel and Serenity director Whedon deliver what is probablytheir best film yet. The Avengers in short rocks. The story: After a familiar villain returns from exile with an army ofdisposable bad guys in tow, Shield boss Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson)has to do the unthinkable... get a disparate bunch of superheroes towork together to protect the Earth from an seemingly unstoppableinvasion. Queue the arrival of the cocky Iron Man, buff demi god Thor, man out of time Captain America and sometime hulk Bruce Banner alongside Shield mainstays (and as yet without their own solo movies)Hawkeye & Black widow. Yes the story is as simple as that. But in honesty the 'why' is almostless important than the 'how'... because Loki's army never really feellike the insurmountable threat they are billed as and therefore thedanger at the heart of the film just doesn't exist, but it's Wheldon'shandling of his trademark character interplay (never more importantlymastered that it is here) that really makes The Avengers stand out fromthe crowd.See because if you didn't know (and if you didn't know where the hellhave you been over the past 10 years and what the heck have you beenwatching!), writer & director Joss Whedon was the creator of TV goldsuch as Buffy, Firefly and Dollhouse (not to mention a host of rewritecredits including films like Toy Story). He became renowned for hisexpertly drawn three dimensional characters, sparking writing andgroundbreaking story ideas. So it's no surprise that the characterinterplay is by far the strongest part of The Avengers. In part that isbecause Wheldon's script delivers - pathos, humor, dread. Often in thesame scene. That said if any part of this film would work it was alwaysgoing to be the script. But it would be nothing without the top notchcast all delivering their A game. As usual Downey Jr shines as the everhumorous Tony Stark , but Evans, Hemsworth and Ruffalo all more thanhold their own and, naturally, Sam Jackson could be cool reading fromthe phone booth. This film was always going to rely on the balance ofthese characters, potentially the films biggest downfall. As it turnsout, it's actually The Avengers strongest asset. Even adding the yetonly glimpsed at Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Black Widow (ScarlettJohansson) doesn't leave anyone short changed, finding enough space tomake these characters feel fully drawn. Watching The Avengers andseeing what Wheldon has achieved, I honestly doubt if there is adirector in Hollywood today who could have managed to balance theensemble cast as well as he does. That's not to say the action isn't good... far from it. Wheldon putstogether some of the best action seen in a blockbuster for some time.Well shot, expertly paced and best of all it isn't edited in that hyperkinetic super quick style that has plagued action films since Bourne &Bay hit he scene. But best of all because these are characters you careabout, of actually care about what happens in the action scenes. Thesearen't faceless robots or badly drawn planks of wood, these feel likereal (albeit super powered). Whether it's The Hulk smashing Thorthrough the bowls of the Shield super ship or Iron Man blowing bad guysout of the sky, the action is clear and often breathtaking. Villain duties fall to Thor bad guy Loki is there to provide the filmsbig bad and is played with relish by the always brilliant TomHiddleston. Cocky, arrogant and dangerous, Loki's interplay with BlackWidow, Iron Man & Hulk lead to some of the films best (and oftenfunniest) moments. Does it have faults? Of course it does. The first hour takes a while toget going (mistakenly leading me to think I may not have been blownaway by the film), Loki's army are a bit meh, lacking in reason or realthreat with their own power coming in numbers rather than skill and Iwould have liked to see a little more of Thor. But these are prettysmall issues in what is for all-intense and purpose is one hell of anfilm. Oh and it would be remiss not to mention that, finally, after twopreviously flawed attempts someone has finally gotten The Hulk right.Less conflicted then we've seen before, Ruffalo brings a likable butsuitably dark edge to a Banner and when Hulk finally does smash he doesso better than ever. So a great script, a superb cast, some of the best action we have seenon the big screen for some time... The Avengers is probably one of thetop 3 superhero/comic book movies ever made. All this from a filmmakerwho has been mostly ignored or abused by Hollywood for he past decade. In Joss we geeks have always trusted and now secret is out. www.thefilmpodcast.co.uk |

I couldn't even watch all of itI love Joss Whedon. I love some comic book movies (X-Men, Daredevil,Batman). I like quite a few of the actors in this.So why on earth did I hate it so much? For me the style was probably the worst thing. Some movies grab me, andmake me watch. This didn't from the outset. It felt like a high budgetTV episode. The look felt stark and unrealistic (or actually, toorealistic probably). It seems to have been filmed for 3D, because evenin 2D you you just get lots of weird camera angles and a strange toneto it.The story... well, I just found it hard to pay attention for even themost shortest of times. It just was people doing stuff, but no sense ofdirection, or story, or building menace. In fact the menace looked likea Stargate TV series villain. Or something from a kids' movie. And the thing is with Stargate, I love the characters. But I don't withthis film. They give me no reason to love them. So their actions arethus uninteresting. It doesn't surprise me, seeing afterwards, that Joss Whedon directedit. And it shows - he's a good writer, but doesn't have a lot ofdirecting experience.Having said that, what do I know... look at the numbers it's made! But for me, I couldn't even watch it all the way through. It wascompletely not captivating. |

Best Superhero Movie Till DateIt is the first movie I m writing a review for. The movie compelled meto write. The world is in danger. Loki, Thor's brother thretens todestroy earth. He has amassed a legion to annihilate earth. It seems, the destruction is imminent and unavoidable. It is in these times thatNick Fury of Shield decides to bring to gether an amazing team ofsuperheroes who are not used to working as a team, don't like takingorders from a mere mortal and above all like to work on their ownterms, especially Stark and Hulk.. It is this attitude of their's thatprobably sets them apart from the rest of the superheroes. What followsis awesomeness at its best. Its not just another action-adventure flick. Its epic. Its action, adventure, comedy, wittiness all combined into one. Its a completepackage. It doesn't really matter whether you are into superhero stuff, doesn't matter what age group you belong too, you are going to enjoy itanyhow. Hulk and Iron Man are the pillars of the movie. Mark Ruffalohas done an amazing job, especially when he turns into "the other guy".The HULK is the cynosure of the movie. Never seen Hulk like this. He isbigger, better, stronger and angrier..that's the best part. He is hereto do what he does best.."smash".. Robert Downey aka Tony Stark, ourgenius, billionaire, philanthropist, playboy, with his arrogance and"don't give a damn attitude" would definitely win your heart. Thor, theGod of thunder played by Chris Hemsworth is back on earth to kick someLoki ass. Tom Hiddleston or Loki who is bent on destroying earth isquite convincing as the evil guy. Captain America seemed to lackconviction. Probably its because I am not a Captain America fan. AgentBart aka Hawk Eye & Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, though meremortals with no superhuman ability, play an important part in savingthe blue planet from annihilation. I was surprised to see CobieSmulders of HIMYM fame. I thought she was doing a cameo, but to myastonishment she had a major role to play. Its a must watch movie and everybody should at least watch it once, I mplanning on watching it again.. |

Official review of the Avengers.I have been very excited for this movie to come out. Being pleased withthe other Marvel movies such as Iron man, Thor, etc. I couldn't helpbut get excited for this one as well. By the time the last creditrolled, I left feeling only half satisfied. On the good side of the movie, amazing CGI, it really was all broughttogether well creating exciting action sequences. The acting was prettygood also, it was the same old characters we learned to love and adore. But the thing that stuck out the most to me was Mark Ruffalo's Hulk. Hebrought the character to life and to be quite honest, I didn't reallycare much for the Hulk until this movie. Now on the other hand, there was a down side to this movie. The moviejust seemed to drag on. Almost as if they were building up thecharacters all over again, but they already had their own movie, sowhy? Also, and I know I wasn't the only one on this, but the wholestory line was to cliché. Bottom line, it was a really good movie, top ten no, top 50 yes.Although I left the theater feeling half satisfied, it brought back theexcitement of the movies and it's a very exciting adventure. Definitelya must see 8/10 |
