Must watch for horror fansFirst thing I really liked about this movie are the Taglines. viz. 'Ifsomething is chasing you... split up'... 'If an old man warns you notto go there... make fun of him'.They use all the clichés in a movie inthis genre and creates a question in the viewers mind. Why would theydo that? Thats the last possible thing I would do. This got me reallyinterested in the movie and so I think got others too. Now, the movie has all the stereotypes of a horror movie of this genre.Has the same setup. 5 teenagers go to a deserted cabin to spend theirholiday. An old man at a gas station warns them not to go there. Theyignore it and start to go there. Then the movie starts taking adifferent path. Starts showing a bigger conspiracy in the ways thingsare shaping up. This is what will get the user glued to the movie. Theymanage to keep this mystery build up till the end. You manage to guessa little but some things still won't make sense till the climax scenewhere all the big explanation takes place. The movie obviously doesn't have any great acting and no characterbuilding, but thats how it was supposed to be. If they put any greatactors with lot of back story in it, then the whole point of the moviewill vanish. The mockery on the actions of a character in a movie likethis wouldn't be there anymore. I give the movie a 6.5. Except for afew holes, it has a good story which is clichéd but begs to bedifferent. |

I EXpected So Much MoreI sat down and watched what was supposed to be one of the best moviesof the year, and it's a horror film. Needles to say, "Cabin in TheWoods" was terribly disappointing. It is a horror movie and I wasn'tsure if it was supposed to be. It was a horror movie that makes fun ofthe horror genre as a whole. I didn't like that and I felt like I waswatching "Scream" all over again. There were many problems with thismovie so let's get started. The movie starts with your standard college kids going into a secludedplace to party. However, this time is different. They are going into acontrolled environment where a company controls how and when the die. This is the basic premise of the movie and it leaves the audiencewondering why this company is doing this. Personally, I didn't likethat. The idea was good but the ending to the movie became sort ofobvious. This movie could have been a lot better if a few scenes wereswitched around. The company in control should have been the kicker andthe huge surprise, instead the first scene shows them starting andtelling you what is going to happen. This movie was supposed to besurprising and different with a mind blowing concept. Instead it becamesomewhat predictable and the "shock" at the end was just ridiculous. This starts out as a basic and standard horror movie with ChrisHemsworth leading a group of mindless idiots into the woods. It was thetypical jock, slut, genius, idiot stoner, and the innocent virgin. Itis obvious who is going to die and when, and it is exactly what youwould expect from a horror movie. The slut dies while having sex, whichhas been done so many times. The acting was just disturbing. Hemsworthplays the thunder god Thor in the movie "Thor." He did a good job inthat movie and now he is seen with his terrible one-liners and badacting. The slut does her job as the hot girl in the movie to drawteenage boys and perverted old men towards ticket sales. The onlycharacter I actually liked was Marty.Marty was the stoner idiot who kind of saw what was coming. Hischaracter was actually interesting and had meaning. He wasn't just afiller character to get killed. He noticed something was wrong with thehouse and hoe everybody was acting differently. He basically pointedout how he was in a horror movie and everybody was in trouble. Themovie throws in a lame twist as to how the company cannot control himas a character and it was just stupid. It was something I did not seecoming but I still was not impressed.I was also hoping the movie would focus more on the cabin itself. Themovie is called a cabin in the woods and the characters spend verylittle time in the actual cabin. In the beginning the cabin is eerieand different and hints towards some importance. It turns into beingjust a simple cabin and is really disappointing. The two way mirror wascool and the elaborate paintings were interesting but after they wereshown in their one scene, they were never seen again. There was so muchpotential wasted, and it is really a shame. This movie takes a complete turn in a few ways I did not see coming. The company control monsters in which to kill people but what wasbasically going to happen was totally obvious. The ending to this moviewas far-fetched and definitely entertaining. Actually, I need to saythis, the movie was entertaining. I was generally entertained, and Ieven found myself laughing a lot, and I didn't like that either. Iwanted to be scared and wondering what was going to happen. Aninteresting story simply turned into mindless violence with a poorreason.Overall, "Cabin in The Woods" was generally entertaining with wastedpotential and a disappointing chain of events in the end. Acting waspathetic, which is expected from a horror movie, but I honestlyexpected better because I heard so many positives from this movie. Idid like how Marty touched upon how he felt like he was in a horrormovie and the film touched on the structure of horror movies ingeneral, but the poor structure of this movie was just disappointing. Iwanted to enjoy this movie but I did not get what I wanted. "Cabin inThe Woods" gets a WillyT A for Effort. I suggest you rent or borrowthis movie and see it at least once, but only once. |

Cabin in The Woods - A Hit to the Horror GenreNow there's been very little talk about this film. Well, there has beenlots of talk about it but it all goes something like this "um, um,well" and then they eventually say that its a horror movie and someoneshouts at them saying that that's incorrect. It's written by the guywho made Cloverfield, which some people liked and said wasrevolutionary but I'm not a fan of. Also, this film was actuallyfinished in 2009 and was not released up until now due to MGM goingbankrupt, which make's it interesting as its actually a quite young(pre Thor) Chris Hemsworth playing a role in it. It's a difficultreview to do because I don't want to reveal too much about the filmwhich could end up spoiling it for people. Here's the IMDb description: "Five friends go for a break at a remotecabin in the woods, where they get more than they bargained for.Together, they must discover the truth behind the cabin in the woods."OK, so simplistic horror movie with 5 characters who are obviously thestereotypical teen quintuplet going to a place where some bad stuff isobviously going to go down. That description is really useless. This film is… interesting. All Ican say is that it's not what its set up to look like in the posters orthe trailer. On the subject of the trailer, some say it ruins the filmand while I do think a few scenes maybe shouldn't be in the trailer, itdoes add intrigue. It is however one of the most well thought out, entertaining and different films I've seen in a while. It is honestlybeyond a genre. It is nothing like any kind of film out right now andwhile it bears some resemblance to maybe one or two horror films in thepast, these two films (i'm not naming them) where also unique to theirtime. The performances in the film are unimportant, though I guess they allseemed to do OK. Chris Hemsworth did his bit but I did really thinkthat Fran Kranz (ridiculous name) who played Marty was really excellentin the way he portrayed his character which wasn't just because thatcharacter was written so well. Some of the shots in the film are worthnoting and about 3/4 the way through there's some great scenes whichunfortunately I can't go into too much detail about, but lets just sayit makes you keep your eyes open wide.I don't think there is much more I can add to this review and it'sannoying because there is so much to talk about. It is a blow to thehorror genre's gut and I'm interested to see if Drew Goddard continuesto try different things and experiment with "Horror" as a genre8/10. A fresh, entertaining thrill ride of a film. |

College students on a weekend getaway must fend off a zombie family sent to kill them by workers in an omnipresent control room. This is coverage of the script I did for my class at Depaul Universityin Chicago. SYNOPSIS:DANA POLK, 20, and four of her college friends load up a Winnebago andset off to an isolated cabin for a weekend getaway. During this timemembers of an unnamed company prepare a control room full of monitorsand buttons linked to the cabin. It is revealed that the cabin is thecompany's last chance to accomplish a currently unknown and specifictask that has resulted in careful interest in the college students. Enroute to the cabin the group stops at a rundown gas station and isrudely confronted by the estranged owner whom we later learn works forthe company. There is much flirtation amongst the kids that influencestheir room assignments in the cabin and raises anticipation for brutalkillings during steamy make out sessions. Early in the evening everyone is enjoying boozing and sexualpromiscuousness but then Dana and the group venture to the cellar andunknowingly awaken a ZOMBIE family that proceeds to brutally murder thegroup one by one starting with JULES. Amidst panic and attempts tobarricade the cabin's doors and windows, MARTY uncovers wires leadingto video cameras immediately before his perceived death. Dana, CURT,and HOLDEN try driving out of the woods but workers in the control roomdemolish the only route back. Curt attempts to jump a ravine on amotorbike and it is then that Dana learns that someone else iscontrolling everything. She fights off a zombie as the Winnebago sinksinto the lake and is met on the dock by MARTY.Marty leads Dana down the same entrance the Zombies rose from. Theytravel down and side ways in an elevator passing a collection ofvarious monsters. Dana infers that the monsters are summoned bywhatever her and her touch in the cellar. The workers in the controlroom get wind that the two are still alive and send a swat team tofinish them off. Dana and Marty unleash all the monsters via a mastercontrol button and amidst a slew of vicious killings the two escape toa ritualistic chamber. In the chamber the DIRECTOR of the companyemerges and reveals that Dana, Marty, and their friends were objects ina human sacrifice to please Gods that rest beneath the earth's surface. The story ends with the God rising from the earth and the assumed endto humanity. COMMENT:This script sets itself apart from the typical teen slasher by using aunique concept not yet seen in the genre. Taking many elements from THETRUMAN SHOW as well as many horror films this script for the most partsuccessfully creates a viable blend of suspense, intrigue, and horror. With this being said this script is not without a big flaw. The motivesof the antagonists are borderline absurd. Also the antagonistcharacters are poorly constructed. These blemishes can be fixed butthis script requires a fair amount of work. One of the most appealing aspects of this script is the development ofthe characters. Dana and Marty are both likable characters with a goodamount of depth rarely seen in the genre. Marty's dialogue from the getgo is rich and humorous. Dana is the stereotypical virgin survivor fromnearly any horror but is a likable protagonist that, if worked on,could be a character audiences will love. The supporting cast is attimes lackluster but does not need to be anything more than generic. For the most part this script is solid. The most work that needs to bedone lies in the development and motives of the protagonists. Audienceswill be disappointed with the script's current ending. The companyworkers and directors must undergo changes to satisfy audiences beyondopening weekend. Basing the workers motives on underground Gods isfar-fetched and not supported well in the script. Revealing this tidbitat the end of the film is an unnecessary curveball. Much work must bedone to the antagonist's motives to alter the ending. An ending whereboth characters or the director survive will leave open the possibilityfor a sequel. Overall this is a script riddled with potential to stand out amongst acluttered genre. The current draft has a unique basis and provides twolikable characters for audiences to root for. This script satisfiesfans of slashers and those looking for a protagonist to live through. This being said the writers fumbled a few story elements and createdlackluster antagonists but this can all be fixed by more experiencedwriters. What matters most is that this film could be the first of manyif done correctly.SCRIPT EVALUATION: CONSIDER WRITER EVALUATION: CONSIDER |

Genius, not for everyoneIt is not every day that a genre bending movie such as Cabin in theWoods comes out. I loved this film, but I am surprised by all thenegative reviews. You don't expect a strawberry, banana, pineapplesmoothie to taste like only strawberries, or overpoweringly likebanana, why would you expect a genre bender to be overwhelminglycomical or horrific? To begin with, the writing was well done. There are subtle layers thatyou pick up on the more you watch it. Generally that is considered tobe good writing, when there are layers upon layers of subtle dialog andcharacter development. Then of course there is the not so subtledialog. It was comical. No it was not a film with both feet planted firmly intothe most hysterical depths of comedy. IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE! Thecomedy, to me, created a refreshing contrast in a world of films wherehorror, screams and gore are all that is valued. It was suspenseful but not scary. I don't really like movies wherethings pop out all the time, so when I watch them, as the "scary" sceneapproaches I cover one eye and sink into my seat. This film providedenough eye-covering/seat-sinking moments that made my heart race. Iunderstand some people need INTENSE HORROR to like a movie but again, this is not where the movie was trying to go.It was a conspiracy! The conspiracy was what made this film awesome.Because when I was asked if I wanted to see Cabin in the Woods orPromethus, I chose Promethus. I thought I knew the story already. Evenonce I watched the trailer I didn't KNOW the story. The characters were awesome. First, they were playing stereotypeswithout actually being stereotypes. The Virgin was not a virgin. TheAthlete was studying sociology on full academic scholarship. TheScholar, while smart, played football. The Fool unravels the wholestory, and the Whore was pre-med and acting like a "slut" because shewas literally drugged. As for people who claim it was poorly acted or that the stereotypeswere boring... THAT WAS THE POINT. Proof? The complacency of the story,of the work done by the puppeteers, they were so self satisfied thatthey ignored the warning signs of their down fall. Its called plotdevelopment and foreshadowing for those who would cry lazy writing.I personally found the editing to be very well done throughout. Awesomeforeshadowing. Great dialog, original concept. Over all this move hasseveral well developed themes that are reinforced through technicaleffects, especially the editing. Don't take the negative reviews here too seriously, just as youshouldn't take this movie too seriously. People who are hating arehaters. They spend money on movies and choose to not be entertained."It wasn't scary enough" "it wasn't funny enough"- Alright, you go makea better movie! |

Unicorn! This has to be one of the most creative and unique horror movies thatI've ever watched.Just reading the title, I thought this was going to be so cliché justlike all the other films in the same genre. But then, this movie had somuch story in it than what's said in the title. It was predictable at first, you know, same old story, they die andwhatsoever but then, you had those twists working out after. I actuallydidn't see the following events coming. As for the acting, I thoughtthey were great. I love how the characters instantly know what's reallygoing on and so they had to move. But they don't really know what's thereason behind it and that's the rest of the story.I had a really good time watching this one. It was fun and just like Isaid, very creative. |

Unpredictability at it's finest! If this flick is anything it's unpredictable and that's a good thingcause originality these days in ole Hollyweird is extremely rare! I hadno idea whatsoever that the events that i was about to see were gonnatake place. I love horror films and have seen quite a few strictly forthe gore factor (Yes I'm sorta crazy that way i guess?) have seen somethat have actually scared the bejesus out of me (Paranormal Activity isone of them) and last but not least hardly any that shocked me,unpredictability wise as this one had. 5 college buds head up to one oftheir cousin's cabin in the woods. Sure...I know same ol same ol eh?Low and behold we then see a group of what look to be scientists in alab who seem to be controlling what comes up against the 5 pals whilstup there. They also seem to be laying down bets on the 5 on who will bethe first to meet their demise and how they will fall.Eventually the tables get turned on them however, with thrilling CGIresults. I suggest this film for any horror fan who thinks they haveseen it all, cause quite frankly they have not. |

A Clever Satire or What You Thought You Knew About Horror MoviesYou know? I was going to really trash this movie. I don't usually, butwhen I expect good ol' fashioned horror and get a comedy instead, it'shard for me to not feel disappointed, even a little cheated. Then Iread the review that was randomly chosen to appear on this page, and Ifinally got it: this is a parody. Not a completely silly (not to saydome) comic parody like the Scary Movie series, but an old fashionedsatire like Scream. The movie starts off like your usual teen horror with all the elementspresent. A bunch of friends going on vacation, get slightly loss, meeta creepy fella in a deserted gas station, fail to recognize thewarning, reach the isolated place and start getting butchered. Theirroles are even as stereotypical as can be (Jock, slut, nerd, stoner andgood-girl) but are portrayed in a very satirical way (the stoner thesmart one, and the jock reads?!). Then, as time goes by, it adds prettymuch every element of every sub- genre in the wide spectrum of Horror(cult, sacrifices, zombies, ghosts, monsters, cat and mouse chase, being trapped, pretty much everything you can possibly imagine...) Thismovie obviously set out to not meet the casual expectations, and did afine job at it.If you're looking for a good scare - stop. There isn't a scary scene inthis movie, not one. However - if you're looking for a good laugh, you've hit the jackpot. Almost every time the stoner (superb acting byFran Kranz) opened his mouth - I ended up laughing, sometimeshysterically. And of course, the All-Star monster assembly, which appears as if ithas been taken directly from a Family Guy flashback scene. I thought itwas ridiculously absurd, until I realized that was the point.I don't like writing spoiler reviews, but I can tell you that I don'tthink there's a way to spoil the ending. This movie isn't aboutsurprising twists, impressive dialogues or a smart script. It's, asmentioned before, a clever satire meant to make fun of the Horrorgenre.Since I'd been disappointed because I expected something else, I wasn'treally sure how to rate this. It's a hilarious comedy and an excellentsatire, but it simply isn't a horror movie. |

Yawn, another crap splatter movieyawn. I've seen episodes of America's Next Top Model that kept me inmore suspense than this movie. It's definitely not a horror movie. Iguess it qualifies as a splatter movie but don't expect to be scared orkept in suspense. The movie started out like another cliché horror-film and was averagelyinteresting for the first 20 minutes, then it turned boring. ANDPREDICTABLE, there is no big wow-moment-twist. No suspense. No horror.Just some blood towards the end. I don't really have anything else to say about this crappy boringunimpressive movie other than that I want my money back. I wonder ifthe cinema has a refund policy hmmm.... |

Evil Dead meets Resident EvilAs I sat through this, it's exactly what I thought, this is Evil Deadcombined with Resident Evil, and that's what made this enjoyable towatch. This is one of those brain-dead horror movies where you feel absolutelynothing for any character while they get sliced and hacked to pieces invarious ways by a bunch of redneck zombies, so it never takes itselfseriously.5 stereotypes pile into a camper van/RV, and head into the wildernessto stay at a remote log cabin. Before too long they discover that theGPS won't work and they turn up at what appears to be an abandonedpetrol station. So cue the Texas Chainsaw Massacre theme right aboutnow, complete with animals preserved in jars and the obligatorynone-too-pleasant country rube.Interspersed with the goings on with the young group, there aresegments that flash to what appears to be a secret installation/labthat is overseeing the group with hidden cameras. So this is where youget that whole Resident Evil Umbrella Corporation-esque vibe. And as per Evil Dead, things really start to gain momentum on the firstnight, the group heads down to the cellar after the hatch suddenly"blew" itself open, and they come across a rather odd assortment ofitems. Each member of the group seems to fall into a trance like effectafter randomly handling a different item, however, it's the reading ofa seemingly very old diary and the Latin text within that creates allthe chaos. From here things take a twist. Back at the lab, you find that the wholechain of events is being controlled through various means and thecompany has placed bets on which type of creature will be summoned tokill the group, based on their handling of a particular cellar item. Soas it turns out the zombie family was just a fluke. As the survivors start to learn that all these events are seeminglyorchestrated, (the term "puppeteers" gets used at times), it's revealedthat all the sterile, sociopathic behaviour exhibited by the scientiststowards their plight is all for the benefit of very ancient, underground dwelling gods, who need human sacrifice for their amusementand due to various TV monitors you find that the same pattern repeatsitself all over the world. The bloodbath begins after the survivors discover the hidden lab andthe zoo-like array of monsters and demons within and proceed to releasethem all. Of course these things, amongst them a werewolf, a giantcobra and even a murderous unicorn tend to kill everything they comeacross. The movie doesn't really break any new ground, and for a while it's acliché bonanza. Truth or dare games, severed heads being thrown, peoplegetting pulled through windows, ghostly voices etc. The only thingmissing is an excessive downpour of rain, but when you think it's justanother stock standard stalk and slash zombie flick, it turns out to besomething a little different and it keeps you guessing for a while asyou try and figure out why it's all happening and how everything fitstogether. |

If you like brainless slasher, go, if not spend money elsewhereI went because wife wanted to see it. Wish i didn't. I'll start with Idon't' like horror/slasher movies. Never have. This is your typicalhorror/slasher movie, right down to who gets killed first. The moviedidn't really make any sense other than to watch people die. Thecharacters were put together fairly sloppily. No reason as to why therewere going where they were going, why they took an RV to a cabin. Justwhole parts of the movie didn't make sense. The writers refused tochange and do something different. It was pretty typical, you knowwho's gonna get it and no real scary parts some shocking, surprise yascenes. There were some funny parts, but the script never got into it, just asimple, who's gonna get it and how. The ending made no sense and didn'tclose up loose ends. Did the world come to an end? Was this all adream? etc.If you want a brainless slasher movie, go see it but if you want to beentertained go see Three Stooges. |

Markus Emilio Robinson (2013-05-13 15:56:48) |
What did I just watch?!Written by Markus Robinson, Edited by Nicole I. Ashland So absurd, it works; with maybe the most shocking aspect of "The Cabinin the Woods", the new Independent Slasher film from director/co-writerDrew Goddard (Cloverfield), being how this intriguing film had beenshelved for almost three years. Beginning as a horror film 101 storyand then progressively becoming odder and odder, Goddard seems to havefound a new angle in the genre, simply by making a film which isentirely predicated on keeping the audience in a state of confusion, all the while keeping the entertainment level high throughout. And Ienjoyed nearly every minute of it. But as much as I enjoyed this oddlittle horror film, there will undoubtedly be some who will absolutelyhate it. Hate it, simply because in the midst of watching the movie, there will come a moment when one must throw out everything they thinkthat they know about the horror films of today; and almost shelve theirbelief, as it were. And truthfully, that sooner it happens, the moreyou will enjoy the movie. Maybe the greatest compliment I can give "TheCabin in the Woods" is that its wide audience appeal, while hard toexplain, does definitely exist.Synopsis: Directly referencing Sam Raimi's "The Evil Dead", "The Cabinin the Woods" starts off as a pretty routine Slasher film, where 5teenagers (one slut, one jock, one nerd, one pothead and one good girl)go on vacation to a cabin in the woods (for some reason). It then takesone wildly outlandish turn after another, until it erupts into itsgruesome, scary, very smart, funny and (most importantly) fresh climax, that no fan of any genre will see coming. To give you an idea of what Imean by "outlandish", there is a scene where a unicorn actually impalesa man; and it's played for laughs. Yeah, it's that kind of movie. Insaying that, "The Cabin in the Woods", in the age of bad Slasher remakeafter bad Slasher remake, is one of the most original horrorfilms/horror satires there has been since "Scream". Blasphemy, I know. But the fact is, aside from being a film that is punctuated be beingreleased at the right place during the right decade, "The Cabin in theWoods" is a film well worth checking out.As far as the superb comic timing goes, it does work here on a veryself aware level. And this self awareness (or continuous winks at theaudience) are so well constructed, that when the violence and overtsexual references do occur, and the film becomes cluttered withsatirical references that may be lost on many, the supremely cleversidebars constantly keep "The Cabin in the Woods" engaging.Side Note: Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and consummate supporting actressKristen Connolly have substantial roles in this film; as well as thealways wonderful Richard Jenkins (The Visitor) and a surprise cameoby…well I won't spoil it. But the acting, excluding Jenkins (who issuperb here) will not factor in on whether you loved or hated "TheCabin in the Woods", so this aspect really isn't worth discussing.Final Thought: I am not going to say that this was better than lastyear's surprise horror film "Insidious" or than 2009's seldom seen"House of the Devil"; it's just different. And again, this type ofhorror film isn't for everyone. Some may find that the plot twists hereso off-the-wall that they may tune out all together. In fact, "TheCabin in the Woods" will work more for camp horror fans, than for theblood thirsty Slasher lovers, pretty much because it isn't a straightforward Slasher. BUT, as far as satires go, it may only be a notch ortwo below a film such as "Shaun of the Dead". What I mean by thatcomparison is that, "The Cabin in the Woods" displays one of the onlyinstances that show a successful horror flick, which audiences canlaugh with and not laugh at.Please visit my page on Examiner.comhttp://www.examiner.com/x-52464-San-Jose-Indie-Movie-Examiner and leaveany comments you have about this or any review. Simply the worst horror movie ever.. Total crapOnly god knows why Chris Hemsworth acted in such a movie. This iseasily one of the worst movies one can watch. I was fooled by the userrating. The first 15 minutes of the movie is watchable only because it has beentaken from many other movies. Apart from that the entire movie isabsolute crap.. no words to describe it.. Just crap..The film lacks logic at all levels. It sucks in every aspectcreativity, camera-work, screenplay, direction, cast, music, editing, make up, props.. It makes me wonder how producers put money in on suchplots..Please do not waste 95 minutes of your valuable time.. |

Pretty meh. Watchable, but nothing to write home aboutFrom a movie that promises to change a genre, the viewer is left ratherdisappointed. The underlying premise is obvious from the trailers, andcertainly even more in your face obvious from the first 10 minutes ofthe film, leaving any and all chances of surprises and twists well inthe realms of never never land. Thankfully however, the film doesn't seem to be attempting to surpriseyou; but with less than mediocre comedy and not really much of a lot inthe way of horror the film is left rather flat and 2 dimensional.Certainly not what I'd call even in the ball park of a game chargerfilm. ** SPOILER ALERT ** I did feel somewhat insulted when we were told thatall the events were part of a yearly ritual, and more over, a ritualthat they clean up after; then when they let all the monsters into thefacility through the illogical elevators that honestly, lets face itwould never lead into the main facility, the clean up crew which isapparently responsible for putting these creatures back in their boxesevery year is just some guys with guns whom are quickly slaughtered. That is thoroughly insulting to the viewers intellect, and quitefrankly lazy writing. ** SPOILER ALERT **All in all the movie is watchable, but it's nothing to write homeabout. It's the sort of film you'd watch at midnight on a Friday orSaturday evening just because it's on, and you have nothing better todo; but not the sort of movie you'd pay good money to purposefully seeas a rental. If you're looking for a scary DVD there are plenty ofother, better options available to you. |

Seriously????Quite frankly, after the lengthy slow beginning and awkward midsection, it got to the point where after the elevator scene, mygirlfriend and I had a small discussion and agreed. We walked out. Wecouldn't take it any longer. I posted that reference on my BBM and Ihad 2 friends write back and say, "Didn't you read my status update onSaturday?". An absolute nightmare of a movie. Yes that's right, thatnight I had nightmares of me throwing away 20$ bills! How it went from7.9 to 8.2 in one night is beyond me. I gave it a 3 only because it hadcomedy tossed in. YUK. Maybe I'm missing the point but honestly, Inever walk into a movie with ANY expectations. (That way I'm neverdisappointed) but this one did my head in. It's excruciating to watch. And, I'm not talking like a cheap B movie excruciating, I'm talkingabout we tried so hard but failed to hit the nail on the headexcruciating. With all due respect to those who enjoyed the film, Igive you all the credit in the world for sitting through that painfulflick. Should have had a splif before we went in. |

"It's like a monet"in the classic movie called clueless there is a scene when Chercompares the girl to a Monet. Far away it looks cool but up close itsjust a big old mess? This movie falls squarely into that category. In theory it works andfalls under the whedonverse world of snarky cleverness in it'sapproach. The reason people have got to stop praising it as this geniuscommentary of horror movies is because in their effort to pile onhomage after homage and still maintain their quick wit they left out afew key factors that make a movie work and the audience is left with alot of pretty crucial questions. Don't get me wrong, it had its moments. After Fran Kranz dropped the"stoner" voice that he felt like he needed to have in the first tenminutes of the film, his natural charm helped make the characterlikable. Brian White showed the moral conflict for a guy working a newjob that is just weird. But everything else kind of floundered. You can say that it was tooclever for its own good. Maybe if it didn't revert to the "it's awesomebecause the whedonverse says its so" reason for doing things, thenpeople can see the holes that exist. And if some can poke so many holesin the movies plot, doesn't that mean it's not as good as it is madeout to be? The worse thing about it is the ending. On the one hand it is geniusbecause after the many twists and turns the movie has already made itturned it around once more, just for kicks. At the same time, theimplications of the ending are really depressing. |

If you love horror movie this is one you need to see. This movie was fantastic. at first it took awhile for me to get overthe whole "what the hell am I watching", feeling but by the end I lovedit. This movie, I would describe as the twisted cousin of the evil deadseries. I say this because I've never laughed or yelled at the screenas much as I did while watching this. Whoever wrote this had to have though hey lets watch a lot of horrormovies while doing acid. This movie in my opinion was not advertisedproperly, from the trailer you would imagine that this was just a runof the mill slasher flick. this movie is an ode to ever horror moviethat came before, with the same atmosphere that those 70s midnightshowing movies use to have.straight off the bat the movie tries to mixed it up with the charactersmaking the sporty guy smart making the slutty one a caring nurse intraining, and they actually pulled it off. I can say I was reallyrooting for these kids to live unlike all the other slashers where Ican't wait to see how they die. by the time these kids make it to thebasement, that is filled with junk that came straight from over a dozenfamous horror movies that I notices, I was screaming at the screen haveyou never seen, Hellraiser, Evil Dead, or a Jason movie in your life. areal surprise was the stoner character in this movie who has beensmoking pot from the beginning and has basically figured out everythingthats going on thanks to a small dose of paranoia. If you likedZombieland, Evil Dead , Drag me to Hell this is your movie, not to saythat it's not a damn good horror movie with buckets of gore at everyturn, but its was just so much fun to watch. |

I will pay to see this movie againI went into this film not knowing too much about it, but I had heard itwas very different from most horror movies. Leaving the theater I toldmy friend I thought this movie was amazing. I did however read in anarticle that the film was actually shot years ago, but the release datekept getting pushed back. No one has done anything like it, Joss Whedondid a great job in writing the screenplay. Of course at the beginningthe audience is confused by what they think is going on. Once theaction starts happening and things are explained it made me think…whothinks of this? It has your typical group of college friends on avacation but it goes on to so much more than that. I don't want to ruinthe movie for those who haven't seen it. I think everyone should go seeit. |

expected much.... butthis was pretty much a waste of timeevery once in a while there is a horror movie with a good score. for meas a horror movie lover i just had to watch it. didn't even looked atthe trailer, for me was clear: this movie can't be bad at all!! like iwrote in the title... the expectations were high, but hands down... itsucked! it's just another teeny "comedy" with some blood inside. it'spredictable right from the start, except for this strange parts werethey bet money on how they gonna die, and celebrate. was justconfusing... nothing more.sorry about this negative review. if you're into movies like pirania 3dyou should give it a try... if you think pirania sucked, don't try thisone. |

See it if there is nothing else to watchCreepy pictures today follow a formula. Firstly you mix a fewadolescent males high on testosterone with a few females who arebasically dumb and can scream a lot. You sparingly mix in a plot thatdoesn't matter too much - so long as you have a few madmen or women whoare manipulating others. You spice the dialogue with the usual languageof the gutter found in nearly all films these days and sumptuously addto the mix a lot of blood and gore. This film started off well, then got sillier and sillier as it went on.The final reason for the whole thing was as ludicrous as I think itpossibly could have been and I wonder who was taking what when it was"thought" up.If the plot could have been re-worked with a more sensible premise, something remotely believable, then we may have been presented withsomething watchable. As it was, everything was so way over the top itparodied itself. No doubt this film will appeal to 12 year old chimpanzees for whom itwas obviously intended. |
