Good Movie...But Not A Great One

First of all, I'm a fan of Nolan's films. He sure knows how to make aninteresting movie...but I came home last night after watching this filmand I was a little bit disappointed. Some scenes were hits, awesome sequences that awesomed all over theplace, but some plot points were clichés: Catwoman turning into a goodwoman and "unexpectedly" saving Batman during the fight between him andBane. Batman carrying the bomb and "dying" as a hero...but wait! He'salive! What a shocker! The performances...Christian Bale was good. He made a good Batman. Gary Oldman: I can'tsay anything bad about him. I love Gary Oldman! Michael Caine: This washis movie!! When he told Bruce about Rachel's letter, and when he criedat Bruce's funeral...If Alfred cries, I cry!! Marion Cotillard: She wasOK but I don't know. Not my favorite performance. Anne Hathaway: Isorta liked her. I think that she took Selina's way of speaking andwalking one step too far. There was a point were I actually told mysister "What is Jessica Rabbit doing in this movie?" Tom Hardy: Goodvillain. Wouldn't want to get into a fist fight with him. I'm not sureabout his voice though. But in the competition for best villain, I'msorry Hardy, but Ledger takes the cake. And I know that I shouldn't tryto compare TDKR with TDK but I can't help it. (Nobody can)I felt that some parts of the dialog were a little bit corny. I don'tknow if the lines were corny or the actors were corny. But seriously, some lines could've been spoken by Horatio from CSI Miami. Also thestory about how Ra's Al Ghul met Talia's mother and how she was born on"hell on Earth" was a little bit cheesy, like some kind of fairytale ortragedy that 13 year old girls love. And what's up with Robin? I thinkthat the way he found out that Bruce was Batman was lame. I don't know.Him being Robin undermined the dark tone of the trilogy that we loved. But don't get the wrong idea. Don't say that I'm a Batman hater becauseI'm not. I'm just saying that Nolan had raised the bar so high. I thinkthat TDK was a huge success because the plots were unexpected: Youdidn't expect Rachel to die or Gotham hating Batman who ends up being afugitive while the villain Dent is praised. You got chills when theJoker blew up the hospital, his voice and twisted way to controleveryone like puppets and making them go crazy gave you goose bumps...and that's were TDKR fails. So, to sum it all up. This movie is good, but not excellent, andalthough I will miss Nolan's Batman, my favorite Batman movie will notbe this one. Instead I'll take TDK anytime, because I think that deepdown we all like the tragedy, we all like the unconventional hero witha gray moral compass.

Masterpiece of a film.... My prayers go out to the victims in Colorado

Regardless of the chaos surrounding this movie and the tragedy... TDKRis probably one of the greatest films of all time. I don't want to saytoo much to give anything away cause this movie does not deserve to bespoiled (Unlike David Letterman tried to do. Clever man but you didn'tfoil it thank god)I say don't let this tragedy scare you away from viewing this in yourlocal theater or IMAX...if you fail to go out, this heart less gunmanwins... I will not let him scare me away from what I want to do... Iwill go out and see this movie multiple times. It is amazing and without a doubt it is a must see film. Bravo Nolanfor putting together an amazing cast, and crafting together such amasterful trilogy of my most beloved comic book hero

After Building the Foundation, Nolan Completes His Trilogy

"There are very few great third films. I think in some casesdissatisfaction with third films comes from the sheer exhaustion of thepeople making it." These words came straight from the mouth of directorChristopher Nolan, not just recently in an interview with EntertainmentWeekly but also months after completion of The Dark Knight. He wasexhausted, on vacation, probably mulling over his plans to tackleInception next, but wasn't too interested, or at least didn't want toconvey interest, in yet another Batman film. This shouldn't surprisethose who followed Nolan's commentary as early as when he first wrappedproduction on Batman Begins. Even then, Nolan noted he was simplyaiming to make a film, not a franchise. That, in essence, is why Nolanhas yet triumphed a third time in what has become one of the greatestcinematic trilogies of all time. History would suggest theopposite—when a franchise is planned and outlined as a trilogybeforehand, such as with Lord of the Rings and Star Wars—is whensequels are the most effective. But Nolan's artistry and carefulcalculation with each chapter in his Bat-verse has allowed each segmentto have its own identity, while also building upon the foundation ofthe groundwork laid by its predecessors. If Batman Begins is about becoming a symbol and The Dark Knight (TDK)is about the personal sacrifice necessary in being that symbol, TheDark Knight Rises (TDKR) is about living through as that symbol to theend. In TDK, Wayne lost all that would have preserved Gotham outside ofthe presence of the Batman figure. His personal loss of Rachel and Dentresulted in Wayne becoming a shut-in, eccentric Howard Hughescharacter, and Batman becoming the face of villainy throughout thecity. However, despite criminal activity being seemingly expunged, anew evil approaches Gotham from another part of the world in the formof Bane.Bane poses as the best possible villain alternative in a post-Jokerworld as he is the complete antithesis of the Joker. While both seek touproot society and give Gotham "back to the people," Joker wanted puremadness and anarchy while Bane seeks personal control and tyrannythrough fear. Bane is, for reasons which won't be delved intothoroughly in respect to spoiling TDKRs plot, a deadlier and moreunhinged second coming of the kind of threat our caped crusader facedwith Ra's Al Ghul. The Joker was a loose cannon, Bane is a weapon. Eachhit Bane delivers is calculated and precise, but unlike Ra's Al Ghul,he isn't hindered in his actions by any moral code. He is, withouthyperbole, the perfect villain for Nolan's Batman—the realization ofevery evil Batman has fought, but a perfect collision of forces thatprevents our hero from being prepared for anything like him.As a result, the stakes are high here because Bane isn't simply lookingto kill Batman, but destroy an entire city and uproot civilization inthe process, therefore destroying the symbol of Batman and "breakinghis spirit." Much like this summer's The Avengers, you truly feel thethreat has consequences on a world-wide scale. This isn't to suggestthe film doesn't have its strong character moments, but the film neverlets you catch your breath either. For instance, the few personalscenes between Michael Caine's Alfred and Bale's Bruce Wayne becomingincreasingly heart-wrenching throughout. On that note, there are many wonderful performances in Nolan's finale(as if anyone would expect anything less), but Caine is perhaps myfavorite. Watching the accumulation of everything Alfred has had toendure for a trilogy finally spilling out on screen is heartbreaking. The entire film is full of such dedicated and emotion performances. Many other reviewers will discuss the other roles at length, but I'lldedicate a paragraph to Bale's Bruce Wayne/Batman. Our protagonist goesthrough a complete physical and mental transformation between thefilm's opening and its dynamic conclusion. As stated earlier in thereview, we open with Wayne as a crippled recluse hiding from the restof the world in solitary, but in the wake of his new nemesis, he has toovercome obstacles that challenge him like never before on an emotionaland physical level. However, all of this wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for thevisionary guidance of Christopher Nolan. He lets his stories carefullyand meticulously set the stage for the action. TDKR isn't necessarilyaction-packed, but it is an emotion wallop, and the action only picksup when all of the right cogs have been adjusted. This is why theaction here is memorable and that's why Nolan continues to succeed inthis genre. So, at the end of a seven year journey, fans can rest easy knowing thatNolan's vision for his Bat-verse has been completed, and with muchsuccess. In a few years, Warner Bros. will reboot the franchise and thedark knight will rise once more. It's inevitable and WB has confirmedits intentions. The bar for such a project will be almostinsurmountable but regardless of what endeavors will be made, Nolan'strilogy will remain a classic among comic book, superhero, action, andfilm buffs alike. Christopher Nolan balanced more and more content witheach of his Batman outings, but unlike Spider-Man 3, he doesn't let thestructure fall apart in the final chapter. Instead, he builds upon thealready strong foundation and completes his design. Sure, there willalways be threads left hanging here for movie fans to ponder over, suchas the unstated fate of the Joker. However, for every one of itsoccasional missteps or minor shortcomings, TDKR has a dozen successes. After all, why do we fall?

the dark knight definitely rises BUT couldn't super-cede the second movie...

well before entering the theater like most of u guys i had 3 questionsin mind... 1:would it b worth the 4 year gap? 2:can it outdo the lastone (pretty tough one)? and finally would this be the end of the Nolan-batman saga? one thing more i didn't watch a single trailer of thismovie on purpose which was pretty hard though....so the excitement wassky high . so after watching the movie ....its not as good as the darkknight ...reasons : heath ledger was too good , the story of this partis not as complex as last one ...this is the kind of story which buildsup to a magnificent climax but offers little before ...plus this partdeals with more characters than last one so less time to build themup... the MOST INTERESTING and exciting part is the ending which givesa definite hint of a new series!!

Disappointed with Movie

Disappointed as a viewer. The worst thing a film can do it to make theviewer step out of the film and say "Give me a break" If the filminterrupts the viewing, it is flawed.Give me a break. Detonation of an atomic bomb off the coast of Gotham? The aftermath: Huge waves, devastation to the city. Radiation fall outfor years. The suggestion that Batman is alive is also absurd. He had 5seconds to detonation and had not dropped the bomb. NO WAY he couldhave reached any kind of escape velocity. And if his BAT vehiclesubmerged, which I doubt it did. He could not have survived theradioactivity and heat generated by the blast. This is just stupidwriting. The film makers should have resorted to another scenario.Next, the entire police force crowded together in a massive mob headingtoward city hall. That is just stupid. It may have worked in an old1930s movie where UNION workers confronted private police and thenfought it out with CLUBS, but to walk into a direct assault of canons?Have we learned nothing since the CIVIL WAR. Battles are not foughtthat way anymore. The police would have spread out, infiltrated thecity hall via underground passages, used ropes to repel from buildings, and overwhelmed the bad guys, not walk in to certain death. The entireattack on city hall was plain stupid. Another example of pulling theviewer out of the film and making him say "What the Hell?".In fact, the movie should have been called BATMAN and CATWOMAN. AnnHathaway was an equal to the Dark Knight and I might say did more tosave the city that he did.BANE was a bad dude, psychotic and menacing, but his mask was hisAchilles heel. It was much too vulnerable and as such was a stupididea. If the mask was controlling his pain, he needed to have itprotected. All of the punches to his face would have been more thanenough to disable this Darth Vader Wannabe. I did like the use of theSean Connery voice. It added a bit of class the the maniac's demeanor. Also, having a Mideastern villain wanting revenge on Gotham? Old newssince 911. Not very original. The film does show how vulnerable modern cities are to terrorism, butDUH! that Old news as well. Bottom Line. Too many flaws in logic and writing for me to really enjoythe film.

Absolutely Fantastic!

If you thought Inception was awesome and splendid then hold on till youwatch Dark Knight Rises. This movie goes one step ahead and anotherblockbuster from Christopher Nolan. Wow what a movie. I saw the trailerand didn't read any comments or read the story before watching thismovie.I just went with a blank head. The movie started with a bang, from thebeginning till the end "Bane" was menacing and looked like a finalfrontier for any hero. The first half was slower among the two halves.Like the inception this movie had twists and turns. If you thought Banewas THE bad guy or villain then you are in for a surprise. Watch it toknow who the real villain is. There are shades for every character.Every character had fair amount of screen time to develop and you canrelate to them. The Story was really fantastic. It was well told andhad lot of emotional scenes where you feel the characters on thescreen.Christian Bale was perfect as Batman. His entrance is superb. The BatBike is awesome. The way it takes right turn or left turn is simply atreat to watch. Anne Hathaway as catwomen was very natural and she is avery fine actress. In the first half there is one fight sequencebetween Batman and Bane. Anne hathaway in a way deceives Batman andwhen he gets beaten up you can see the pain in her eyes. Beautifulacting. Whether it is Alfred, Anna Hathway or Christian Bale all actorswere outstanding. The background music adds to the tension and you are sucked into themovie completely. There are scenes where you would say WOW. WheneverBane appears on the screen he looks intimidating and you would wish theBatman had more muscle. Bane terrifies with his speech, looks and withthat kind of big personality he was perfect villain for Batman. At onestage you will ponder whether batman is really capable of upstagingBane. The second half provides all answers and much more.I never felt this movie was long or it was close to 3 hours. It was soengrossing that I was lost in the movie completely entire time. Thestory, action , gadgets, direction, music and the actors were simplymind blowing.Personally I would recommend this movie to everyone. Dark Knight Risesis an epic movie. This will definitely be part of my all timecollection. For this movie you have to experience the story and not read. The moviemakes you feel in so many ways. You will be entertained, there is nodoubt about it.This movie gets double thumbs up!! Go watch it, you are in for tons ofsurprises.

A multimillion dollar budget for a two-cent screenplay

I have seen "bad". And I have seen "bad" with budget. This is "bad"with budget with wrong subliminal messages pasted all over. The 8.8review on IMDb only reflects the affection that people have for theirsuperheroes. They went beyond the temporary suspension of disbeliefbecause they WANTED to like this movie. It was supposed to be theapotheosis of the first two franchises. The fact that Master Nolanwrote it made it sacred, and any attempt to criticize was deemed to beblasphemy. Well think again. Batman's villains are supposed to behighly unconventional: a Penguin, a Riddler, Two-Faces, a deadlyClown... they contrast nicely with an improbable black-clad avengerwith pointy mask-ears, deadly toys and a cape. Those villains are whatmakes an improbable universe coherent and believable for a littlewhile. Batman's fight against evildoers even produces a kind of simpleethical personal questioning about good and evil. And apart from the many naive incongruities in police operationalprocedures, and villain rhetoric, consider how lame and unimaginativeit is to confront a pathetic older superhero barely able to move, muchless fight, with terrorists/nuclear threat, the terror hype of 21stcentury America? Don't you see, Mr Nolan, that these to worlds areunrelated? That they make both unbelievable on screen? Making lastminute links with older foes and female-heir villain twists will mostdefinitely not make a good story, it will only show waning creativity. With this movie you have debased the Batman legend Mr Nolan. Instead ofremembering him as a superhero, we'll all remember him as a diminished,last-gambit, risk-it-all old man that succeeded to save the day onlybecause heroes don't die before delivering (at least in Americancinema).

A near perfect arc.

It's taken me awhile to fully digest this beautiful & tension wroughtepic of chaos descending & grace ascending. If Christopher Nolan hasn't topped himself with this 3rd Batman film hesure as heck has come close. Christian Bale's Wayne/Batman carries this film as much as he does the1st of the trilogy with a haunting performance that damn well betterget at least a nomination for Lead Actor.Anne Hathaway's Selina Kyle ("Catwoman" is never said here) is as muchfun to watch as Michelle Pfieffer's iconic turn in the same role in1992. She is a real kick to behold for Catwoman fans like me.Joseph Gordon-Levitt's idealistic cop Blake may be the biggest surprisehere. His acting is not the surprise (this guy has already proved hischops) but the weight of his role is. I don't remember seeing Levittwith as much gravitas as he has here.Tom Hardy's Bane is truly terrifying. He delivers two of the mostbrutal beatings I've seen lately in film & certainly tops anything I'veever seen in this genre. Bane doesn't get under your skin like Ledger'sJoker. Bane can be explained --he has a cause-- while The Joker defiesexplanation.Marion Cotillard is in the mystery role & is every bit as good as shewas in "Inception".Sir Micheal Caine, Gary Oldman & Morgan Freeman are all in top formtoo. The movie drags a bit during the first half of the third act but thenrecovers with a heart-stopping &, finally, elegiac ending that moved meto tears. This maybe the most heartfelt film Nolan has ever made(although "Inception" was pretty bloody moving). As gigantic as thismovie is (Nolan has really improved as a director of action) it ends ona very wistful, beautiful & poetic note. The production values are off the scale. Try to catch this film in IMAXbecause it is astonishing.

This new Batman movie is worth watching but it's not as good as the first two warning this review may contain spoilers

This new Batman movie is worth watching but it's not as good as thefirst two warning this review may contain spoilers. First of all I donot know why this movie has such a high rating on IMDb I can onlyassume that is up voting computer trolls. Batman in this film seems tobe a little on the weak side as he seems to get beat up a lot. Does notseem to have gumption like in the others. Though he does come out ontop. The evil character in this does not really seem that tough yet heseems to get the upper hand a lot. Also Batman does not have that muchnew gear as he did in the other films just one item makes no sense tome. While everything does work out in the film the storyline feelsrushed and haphazard it is mostly an emotional journey only about 30minutes of action in the entire film. Also I did not like thedisagreement between Alford and Bruce felt that was not at all true tothe comic book dynamic between them.

Recommended but not as enjoyable or accessible as The Dark Knight

Director Christopher Nolan has moved the comic book blockbuster genrefrom a geek niche market to the very centre of the mainstream, takinghis colossal worldwide audience on a journey that belies the filmssuperhero origins. Here the mood is dark, very dark indeed. This review is also written inthe wake of the Colorado tragedy which without question, colours anyperspective on the film. Lines from the film, sequences and generaltone, resonate in a very different way following recent events.Clearly Nolan never intended this to be an easy watch, seeminglyforfeiting easy blockbuster conventions to present a dystopian, amoral, thoroughly real and disturbing view of a city and society in crisis.Holding a mirror up to the present day, the view is not pretty.Following a rousing opening in which a hostage is kidnapped in mid air,we get to meet Bane (Tom Hardy). This is clearly a man clearly not tobe trifled with, despite an anesthetic delivering mask permanentlyattached to his face. Voice distorted, he inspires terror and fear inanyone in close proximity.Meanwhile, The Batman or Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale), has been gonefor some 8 years. His humble butler Alfred (Michael Caine), continueshis attempts to coax Wayne from the life of a recluse. Wayne's interestis finally piqued by the visit of a Cat Burglar who happens to be awoman, cat + woman = Catwoman (Anne Hathaway).Whilst he has been away, Wayne enterprises has not being doing so well, clearly better leadership is required if Wayne can be persuaded toreturn. Fox (Morgan Freeman) has been maintaining the secret lab asbefore, whilst shepherding an ultra secret power source project toeither fruition or mothballs, dependant on it's ultimate potential use.Miranda (Marion Cotillard) has helped fund the project and is clearlynone too happy at the lack of results.Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman), continues to peddle the Harvey Dentmyth which created an environment for harsh penalties and laws, whichhas cleansed Gotham's streets. Both Wayne and Gordon carry the sameburden, saving the city through a lie has taken their souls andeveryone they cared for. Fortunately, their burden is understood by anewcomer to the series, a street cop called Blake who clearlyunderstands more than he should (Joseph Gordon-Lovitt), Nolan clearlycasting his favourite actors. This is a complex story, infinite shades of grey rather than clear cutgood and evil. The film is is magnificently shot, the acting first rateand special effects as strong as before. Nolan continues to use hismusical score better than perhaps anyone working in Hollywood today. The film is harder to enjoy than earlier entries in the trilogy, theDark Knight would be hard to top, an instant classic. This filmimmerses itself into the real world, creating urban terrorists withnihilistic, fascist leanings. Rich folk are pulled from their fancyapartments, "judged" at Kangaroo courts and exiled or executed, bothend the same, exile being just a colder way to go.Watching bridges collapse and smoke filled cityscapes as residents fleein terror, no longer has the distance it once did. Similar to Iron Man,which flirted briefly with Afghanistan, any superhero movie needs totread carefully. No one asks why the Joker sets fire to piles of moneybut Bane needing to invade Wall Street with automatic weapons just tolay some trades? With all of the hi tech weaponary on display, quitewhy Bane and Batman end up in a street fight with baton wielding copscharging thugs armed with automatic weapons, is an odd choice for thescreenplay to make.Ironically, Nolan also chooses to interweave an anti-capitalistic slantinto a $250 million budgeted film, expected to earn in excess of abillion dollars. There are several sequences where we glimpse the Batman of old butthese are fewer than before, after all this is Batman with Angst anddebts. However, no-one wants to see Wayne's Lambo being repossessed.Despite the films extended running time, slower and occasionallyconfusing mid-section, it does however build to an exciting climax, with an interesting twist and soon to be much debated ending.Summary If you thought previous entries were dark and complex, think again.Complex but superb storytelling, whether the story is right for thegenre is more debatable. Nolan decides to take the route marked "hard",demanding his audience travel with him.Recommended but not as enjoyable or accessible as The Dark Knight, which remains the high water mark in this genre.http://julesmoviereviews.blogspot.co.nz/

Enjoyable yet predictable. Disappointing.

I sat down last night on New Years Eve replacing the festivities with abig blockbuster that I was looking forward to watching. One word todescribe it is disappointing. It just does not reach the heights of thesecond film and the main reason for that is the villain. This is notthe fault of the 3rd film really as Heath Ledger was just fantastic inthe 2nd film. It is that Bane is just so one dimensional in comparisonand that is not down to Tom Hardy in any way. There just needed to bemore mystique and terror around him but he was just a big lump with afairly incoherent and gruff voice. And Catwoman? Sorry but AnneHathaway is just not good enough to play this role and her turn to beat Wayne's side at the end-preposterous. And Blake to be Robin wastelegraphed from the moment he came on the screen. AND all the policeforce to get caught down the sewers-ppllleeaasse no. BUT it was worth 8out of 10 as it was a spectacular blockbuster let down by a littleweakness in the plot and one dimensional characterisation.

Dark Knight goes ...pftt....

Probably everyone knows the feeling of having a nice big box offireworks, and there's this big impressive looking rocket in there, andyou wait for a bit, the other fireworks are all pretty good, and thenyou light the rocket as a grande finale, and up it goes into the lowclouds and pffft.... no light, no action, no sound. Well, there we havethe unfortunate trajectory of the Dark Knight. It is a little difficultto believe that Dir. Nolan was actually involved in the film: perhapsbored at the necessity of finishing off a trilogy? There are none ofthe rapid changes of plot direction that have made even his lesserofferings good to watch -- just a thudding (by means of dramatic musiceven over somewhat mundane scenes, suggesting something big might becoming...) step-by-shuddering step from beginning to end. No pace, nosurprise, no complexity. The only changes were, let us say, 'less thanstrongly' motivated by the film's development. Perhaps I got a bad dealand was watching just the outtakes (although 160 minutes of outtakesis, I guess, some kind of effort)? The predictability was mind-numbing,the acting wooden, the sound sometimes odd, some scenes with almost afilmed-for-TV feel to them, the set pieces working so 'set' that itgives a new low to the term. This was not only the worst Batman outingby Nolan by far, it is certainly the worst Nolan film I have seen.Derivative to the max. For me, his credibility as an interestingdirector has now been placed seriously on the line. Only good thing wasthat he didn't even bother trying to have anyone fail at outvillainingHeath Ledger. It is as a consequence difficult to understand the reviewscores for this hotchpotch. There are of course worse films: but addingup the potential and the financial resources that went into this onedoesn't leave much excuse for what came out. That's the reason thatthis review doesn't need to contain spoilers; the film sadly spoilsitself quite enough on its own. Perhaps some rather more thoughtful andaccurate scores will come out when the dust settles.

Why does Avengers even exist?

This may not be the best Nolan film or even the best Batman film but itis definitely a gracious step down for this Batman series. Yes it istoo long, the plot is far fetched, and some characters drag the filmdown(Catwoman). But it manages to keep up a consistent pace throughoutthe film, most likely due to the fact that the film rotates around notjust batman but also around Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character. The filmfeels like the plot of Batman Begins in the backdrop of The DarkKnight, but without Heath Ledger to carry the film. Tom Hardy feelswasted as Bane, not only is his face mostly covered but his voice iscompletely distorted, making it possible for anyone with Hardy's buildto play him. The film does feel like a mess (much like this review) butit has that Nolan genius that makes his films so entertaining. This ishow Superhero movies should be made, and not like the last 5 or sofilms from Marvel including the Avengers which was the worst of thebunch.

Not The Best, But......

I loved parts of the film, but not all. A great beginning, though, itwent slow after that and stayed that way for some time; however, thelast half-hour or so was just amazing and for me made the film worthyof 10/10, otherwise I'd have only given it 7/10.I did not like the Cat Woman character in this; the actress playing therole was simply too unbelievable, and I could not take to her.The ending made me very eager to see what they'll do next; of course, Iwon't be giving anything away here, but I will say it is one of thereasons I gave the film 10/10.Would I watch it again? Probably not, at least not the whole thing, butI'd certainly watch the last half hour repeatedly. Now, don't get me wrong, there were still some scenes in earlier partsof the film which are worth watching, just not that many for me.

The Best Batman Movie so far, and probably ever.

Better story, check, better villain, check, better action, check, characters that actually matter, finally... check. This is the first movie where batman mattered to me. He had to overcomeso much this time around, and didn't fail. Instead of just being theguy in the suit, Christian Bale finally matters, both as Batman, andBruce Wayne. He isn't just there to handle the bad guys, he is a personwith real problems, and a hero with even bigger ones. Will he ever findhappiness? Can he save his city and all the people depending on him?For the first time in any batman movie these questions are handled withreal meaning behind them. That brings in the villain. Tom Hardy deserves the Oscar. Not only didhe deliver an amazing performance from behind a mask, he PERFECTLYbrought the character to life. Everything about Bane, from the voice, his plan, his physique, and yes... his mask was handled expertly by thescript, and the actor. Easily one of the best villains in moviehistory, and yes he outshines Ledger's overrated Joker because like Isaid he actually captures the character not just making his ownversion.Anne Hathaway does great as Catwoman, never stealing the scene like shecould have, but nevertheless a good turn. The score might seem a little overbearing, you can probably blame thetheater volume levels for that, although there was one instance wherecatwoman said something and i couldn't make it out over the music.Regardless Hans zimmer is still the man, and the score works 99.9percent of the time. Finally the movie itself. Some say the near 3 hour runtime is a bitmuch, but I think the amount of characters and action justified it.From Bane's thrilling escape opening, to the explosive finale this isthe best Batman movie so far, and probably ever.9.5/10

not as good as two but comes very close overall fitting end trilogy

As I write this the tragedy of the real life shooting is in the news.Keep going to the cinema, Keep making wonderful films. Good willovercome evil. Our hearts and prayers are with you America.First off, definitely go watch it at cinema. Its a very good film, nota great film like no.2 but a very very good film all the same. Theacting is probably the best of all three. The music, special effectsetc. excellent. Directing 10/10. The time does go by very quickly, infact I did feel it was short! as some bits needed more time, my guessis maybe Christopher Nolan toyed with the idea about breaking it intotwo parts ending as has been the latest trend, but I am so glad hefitted it into one film for the ending, it is better. As others said itwill be showered deservedly with Oscars, Michael Cain as supportingactor comes to mind.In my opinion however, overall it comes very close but not as good asno.2 (but a million times better than no.1) That said, that's probablya matter of purely my personal preference. Nobody in my opinion cancome close to Heath Ledger (RIP), he made no.2 something...special. Butin fairness Tom Hardy's portrayal of Bane the bad guy in no.3 does anexcellent job of scaring the living daylights out of you. This last film is an emotional tour-de-force, it builds up the suspenseand tension with great effect but for me I found the ending a littlebit of an anti-climax, just a little (for example without givinganything away there is a little twist I would have left out). Also Iwould like to have seen more action of the man himself, ten minutesextra of Batman beating up bad guys, flying through the air by himselfetc. Putting small gripes and niggles to one side it does do justice tothe trilogy. You are left begging for more but in the words of someonepast "here... we... go!". I for one will deeply miss Batman.

Nolan's swan song of his Bat Trilogy

The wait is finally over. Chris Nolan's final entry into his trilogy ofBatman films has finally graced the big screen, and it's a large screenif you happen to check it out in IMAX. What started in 2005 with BatmanBegins, hit a high note in 2008 with The Dark Knight, and has stumbledto a close this summer with The Dark Knight Rises. If you happened tocatch The Avengers earlier this summer, or even The Amazing Sidermanfor that matter, you may be expecting another fun ride at the movies. But this is not that kind of film, it's dark, moody and downrightdepressing at times. It's light on action, save for a few brawls andBatman's newest toy, The Bat, a helicopter that can move in and aroundbuildings with ease, that make up the films biggest action set pieces. It picks up 8 years after Batman had taken the fall for the death ofGotham's beloved Harvey Dent. Bruce Wayne has hung up the suit andbecome a Howard Hughes type recluse. Alfred, his butler and onlyfriend, begging him to see the light of day again. Gotham's streets arefree of crime but that will soon change for the worse. Enter Bane, amasked maniac who plans to use terror and a nuclear bomb to bringGotham to it's knees, only to rise from the ashes anew. Throw in catburglar Selina Kyle, who makes off with Bruce Wayne's fingerprints andhe's got enough reason to dust off the suit. Bane, played here by TomHardy, is a worthy adversary to Batman but could have been bettersuited as the muscle for some other villain. Anne Hathaway's SelinaKyle, a modern take on Catwoman is perfect in her role but like most ofthe female parts in Nolan's films is underused. It's strange to saythat in a film that clocks in at almost three hours but there is somuch stuffed in here that some things get lost. And don't expect to seea ton of Batman in the film as he doesn't spend much time in the suit. There are lots of supporting characters, some returning from theprevious films, like the always likable Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon, andsome new, like Joseph Gordon-Levitt's John Blake, who has arguably thefilms best role. This is the last of this series but will undoubtedlymake tons of money so we will see Batman again, this film does have anod to where it could go but it'll remain to be seen who dons the capeand cowl next. But all in all, this was a satisfying conclusion to whathas become the best superhero trilogy ever told.

Amazing

This final instalment in the batman trilogy was the perfect way to endit. The movie was very well scripted, had a gripping plot and theexecution of adding Cat woman was very effective. The main villain,Bane, played exceptionally well by talented actor Tom Hardy (Inception)was without a doubt the most terrifying and awesome antagonists of theBatman and most other superhero films for that matter. His voice, charisma coupled with his high intelligence and psychopathic mindsetwas the perfect combination and he brought a certain gravity to thefilm. By making him match and even exceed batman in hand to hand combatwas a nice touch. What was possible the most impressive scene of theentire film was the opening hijacking segment. It was brilliantly shot, and it effectively established Banes capabilities from the verybeginning. The Dark Knight Rises is also depicts the rising of Robin, the character of John Blake, (Joseph Gordon Levitt). As though the filmwasn't already good enough, the final twist of who really was the childof Ras al Ghul really was simply astounding, unpredictable andbrilliant. Christopher Nolan did well by making Officer Gordan find outwho Batman really was. The only flaw of the film was the departure ofcat woman and her return which was very predictable. The final scenedepicting batman's "death" is an ending unique to Christopher Nolan aswe've seen in the ending of Inception. Simply, we don't know if batmanlived or died, however there are a number if clues that are prettyuseless since they can be used to defend batman's death or survival. This movie is a must watch.
