3.6 about right.I actually thought the opening scenes were brilliant and fascinating towatch, albeit he was wandering streets around Bank which are desertedfor much of any weekend, but enough to reel you in & put yourself inthe position, particularly on Tower Bridge. But the film then achieves a feat, surely never done before but goingrapidly downhill the moment other characters & words are introducedinto the plot.It never really goes anywhere after that, the opening 50 minutes feltmore like the opening episode of The Last Train, Survivor, or arelatively low budget TV mini series, when you realise there's only 30minutes left and the film hasn't really started. It then all gets even sillier, even more unrealistic and uninterestedcharacters, you've never cared one iota for disappear with the help ofover the top editing and flashbacks. You can't help wondering why not one of them, ever got into a car or ona bike and rode off somewhere, instead of walking for 10 minutes, thenstopping to rest for a few hours.Worth watching for the first 15 minutes, then you're better off makingup your own film from then - with the likelihood it'll end up better. |

No, no, no. No.I do not review as often as I should, but sometimes I feel like notdoing so would mean a sleepless night. This is one of those nights. The Last Seven is arguably the most poorly constructed, ill-fated, andhopeless attempt at making a movie I have ever seen outside those whorecognize the feebleness of their movie and attempt to at least derivesome kind of humor out of the film. It is so difficult for me to decidewhere to begin, because everything is wrong. If that does not satisfy your curiosity, then let me hit the big threeas I see them.Number 1: Character development. Throughout the entire film, I wasnever given any reason to care about any of the characters outside of aboo-hoo flashback for someones missed birthday. I didn't care if theylived, if they died, or if they were forced to sit through their ownhorrible acting. I just didn't care about anything that was happeningto them in the slightest, and it destroyed what little bit of plotdevelopment there was. And when I say little, I mean LITTLE.Number 2: Wannabe artistic filming and editing. Out of placeflashbacks, requiem-for-a-dream shortcut film sequences, long, drawnout scenes flip-flopping with super short, shaky camera snapshotprogressions, third grade special effects, the "hitchcock" scare(attempt) and the list goes on, and on, and on, and on, and on. And.On.Number 3: Worse than a M. Night Shyamalan twist ending. Nuff said. The only thing decent about this movie was the scenery, abandonedcities always look awesome.Don't waste your time, and don't make me tell you I told you so. |

Good idea and set-upThe Director Naqvi achieves an impressive 28 Days Later-styleatmosphere of deserted London it will be interesting to see what he cando with different material he creates effective horror beats, .Theunderrated Hassan has presence, and pretty much carries the film on hisbroad shoulders; Dyer's enigmatic, non-speaking role will be a reliefto some.watchable British thriller the cast and crew really tried theirbest looking forward to seeing Simon Phillips in the upcoming jackfalls which looks very interesting. The Last Seven is released in UKcinemas on Friday, August 27, and on DVD and Blu-ray on Monday, August30, 2010. |

welcome to "Luuunnden" population 7the titles cut through religious imagery, C.O.D. inspired soldiers, andDanny dyer having fun with fake blood all blended together with stillsof bomb making and after effects made by a talented fringe fan whoneeds better kit. we pause on a carefully chosen "simon carter of London watch" on thewrist of our blacked out protagonist William Blake (drawing in thepoetry fans now, arn't we). cut to b-rolls of 28 days later while Blakepulls himself together, beginning his search for characters to interactwith and recover his memories of the night before and why was herunning about with a gun. i'm being a bit harsh with the 28 stuff, they are really effective inmaking the city feel empty all the way through the film and gives itits mood.after a bit of a wonder our guys understandably getting a bitfrustrated with his search for dialogue and smashes up a perfectly goodset along the way giving up Blake sets off to the nearest roof top andhis opportunity to leave the narrative. but Blake is drawn back in with the introduction of the cast. the fowlmouthed cloie (with the usual confusing casting of a 20 something toplay a teen), sergeant jack the cockney soldier (who makes anentreating stereo-type), the comic relief henry Chambers MP, the knifewelding by-lingual beauty Isabelle, the creepy Isaac and captain RobertKendrick who leads them through the broken narratives of the variouscharacters memories. the narratives are combines with skillful editing and some reallyclever transitions and layering of shots from different timelinesstogether. this gives the film a very fragile reality from where evenDanny dyer can creep out credibly as the angel of death with anotherreference to 28 days to scare us with. all in all the last act and prologue are very satisfying and worth theslight disorientation along the way. if you watched the anime angelbeats this spring you'll probably enjoy seeing how a western writerdeals with the similar scenario.wow the IMDb spell checks pretty dyslexic friendly |

Can't we Brits make good horror films anymore?I despair for the British horror film genre. I really do.In the space of just a few weeks I've watched this and Dead Cert, twoprime examples of films that had promising premises but totally ballsedit up with inept direction and editing, lousy dialogue and rounded offwith some truly pathetic acting.I grew up in the 60's and 70's watching delights such as The AbominableDr Phibes, Dr Terror's House of Horrors, Asylum, From Beyond The Grave,Tales From The Crypt, Frightmare, House of Whipcord, Scream and ScreamAgain, Theatre of Blood and many more. These films had real actors, decent scripts, filmmakers who knew andunderstood the genre, not fly-by-nights trying to make a quick buck bydolling out any old rubbish.Apart from Severance I haven't seen a decent British horror film inages, and if today's filmmakers keep serving up crap like The LastSeven then my despair looks set to continue. The Last Seven is amateur night crap, avoid! |

My neighbours' dog started barking across the street at the car siren. It was bad enough with the windows open to vent the summer heat andshare this "Hello!" madness with my neighbours, but then I realized'Wow, the neighbours are actually gonna think glass is breaking and acar being vandalized. I'll be lucky if nobody called the police.' Myneighbours' dog started barking across the street. I love horror, butnot this kind of horror. It left a foul taste in my mouth, the "shock"cut scenes are more an annoyance than of actual shock value. The filmis so silent throughout and then suddenly I'm rushing for the volumecontrol. I tastes of orange juice after brushing ones teeth. I turnedit off shortly into it and cannot comment fully. Therefore, I leave onefinal word BEWARE. And I sleep with a compunctious yet cleanconscience. |

A decent film, with bizarre critics and an even more bizarre marketing departmentLet me just say something: ignore the other reviews. Those people areridiculous and have clearly not watched the actual film. This film ISNOT a post-apocalyptic thriller. There are NO zombies, NO deathplagues, NO end times. This film was, for some utterly incomprehensible reason, marketed as apost-apocalyptic thriller. And not even heavily suggested; thepackaging outright says it is set after London has collapsed undereconomic and environmental strain, and these seven people must "bandtogether in the face of this terrible new future".This is complete and utter bull. Please allow me to give a briefoverview of the plot. An American wakes up in a deserted London, andgoes on a quest for others. Along the way, he finds others, and theyhave a series of escapades, pursued by a mysterious hooded man whoemerges from the shadows to take people away. Along the way, we aretreated to a series of flashbacks that go some way to giving theaudience a hint of the M. Night Shamylan-esque twist. (SPOILER: THEY'REALL DEAD, AND THE HOODED MAN IS DEATH, TAKING THEM INTO THE AFTERLIFE)This is what the story is, OK? Not a "poor man's 28 Days Later", as onereviewer put it. That reviewer clearly hasn't seen the actual movie andis just being an eejit. The film does have it's faults, like woodendialogue, for instance. Why aren't people criticising the film for whatit is, rather than what it isn't? It's like watching Downfall andcomplaining it's the worst slapstick comedy to come out of Germany.THERE ARE NO ZOMBIES. NONE. ZILCH. ACCEPT IT. |

A poor man's 28 Days LaterSTAR RATING: ***** Saturday Night **** Friday Night *** Friday Morning** Sunday Night * Monday Morning I could go to great pains to write a long, in depth review of The LastSeven, but it's hard to write much more about it other than my summaryabove. Right from the opening sequence, with one of the lead characterswondering around a deserted London shouting out for 'anybody!', justlike in the aforementioned film, it just feels like such a paleimitation of it that it hurts. In fact, it's almost as if the directorknew he was practically copying it scene for scene and just gave upbothering to tell any sort of decent story of his own. As such, it justgoes through the motions of the post apocalyptic thriller genre, withthe usual stereo-typical set up and characters, without firmlyestablishing the back story behind the majority of humanity being wipedout and making no sense. Most baffling is Danny Dyer's role as somesort of blood crazed zombie type character, probably the mostmysterious thing about the whole uninspired mess. * |

not good, not good at allthis is by far one of the worst films i have ever see in the history offilms. i once bought a £1 Kung Fu film from HMV that was of a betterstandard than this film. i actually felt bad for the actors and keptwanting to correct the incredibly poor acting! if you watch this you'veonly yourself to blame as i do for ignoring the previous bad commentsfrom other reviewers.to put it bluntly, this film is so bad that i had to join IMDb as amember just so i could warn people off from wasting there time... shameon the director for this one and for the script writers SHAME ON YOU!i really need to get into story writing, because if this is the bestthese guys could do and it actually managed to make it even to DVD letalone the pictures, then anyone can call themselves adirector/actor/script writer! |

Where was the acting? I am not amusedThis film started similar to that of 28 days later, and tries torecreate the atmos of a deserted London, the line 7 million peopleuntil today...did have some intrigue, but this was soon dispersed....aguy(William) wakes up in the middle of the road in the financialdistrict of London, and he wanders around in silence for about 15minutes...vandalises a car in the vain attempt to see someone. Heeventually meets up with a Drunk Henry, a young girl named Chloe, amilitary Sargent armed with a rifle called Mason. They too have nomemory, and aimlessly wander the streets. The tension is poorly attempted by having a first person camera anglewatch this trio, given the impression that they are being followed. This does not add any suspense and frankly destroys the atmosphere ittries to create, also the quiet whispering and blue lights which onlyadds to the confusion of why these characters are all alone in London.A few bizarre flash backs trying to keep the suspense, which in turnfails to add intrigue. and the four link up with a further trio Issac,Isabelle and Robert....you soon realise that they are all linked to oneanother. Big surprise. Chloe is Henry's daughter, Robert is MasonsCaptin, William is a reporter on the story of the young girl, but Henryforces a cover up, Isabelle is linked to Issacs wife....but Issacappears to be the loner, quoting from the bible and is oddly silentmost of the time, the seven aimlessly wander the streets trying to finda reason. One unconvincing theory is a dirty bomb was detonated andeveryone was evacuated. would have been more believable if the actorswere not so stiff in front of the camera, and the lines were deliveredwith some skill, they all seemed to lack a sense of direction, no realvibe was felt with these actors, they all just waited their turn todeliver their lines and didn't react well together. Danny Dyer plays asmall cameo role, black hoody, bandaged and blood coming from his eyes,He hunts each of the seven and succeeds in taking a few out. Thischaracter should have had more time on the screen, but i assume thatthis to add that air of mystery. The occurrence of the young girl who appears on a few occasions triesto give you some diretcion to the plot, along with the flashbacks, which is frankly weak. A girl is kidnapped and two armed men who youcan possibly guess are special forces go to rescue her (Robert andMason), but she is killed. Which then leads to the father, Issac, wanting to act his revenge on those involved and covering it up.Which leads you to the final conclusion all the characters were in arestaurant and Issac blows him self up with a nail bomb killingeveryone, but Chloe who for some reason gets a second chance, and hasstarred the "grim reaper" (Danny Dyer) in the eye.The plot was weak, the acting poor i would have thought that Issacplayed by Ronan Vibert would have added some class, but it lacked anysense of direction, this film with the proper director and someone thatcould actually write a suspenseful script would have been so muchbetter, if this was filmed by Hideo Nakata it would have been awesome.I had some hopes that this would be a good UK film but I am leftthinking why the hell was this created. |

A very enjoyable film with great atmosphere, twists and turns.I'm puzzled at some of the previous reviews which gave this film 1 outof 10. I watched this yesterday with my partner on DVD and we boththoroughly enjoyed it. All the characters are interesting andrealistic. The film has great atmosphere and I loved how the plotunfolds to the climax and the understanding of why London is desertedapart from the seven. Like 28 days later the film presents a desertedLondon so its fascinating trying to figure out where in London eachscene was shot and how they managed it. Although the film is low budgetand can't be compared to the typical US blockbusters the producers havebeen careful to spend the funds available where it really matters. Ican't say, do yourself a favour and ignore the previous reviews, sincethose reviewers obviously did not like the film. All I can say is thatI enjoyed it and that you may enjoy it too. |

if you want an easy watch don't watch thisIf you want an easy watch then don't watch this. Having said that ifyou're the kind of person that likes to be kept guessing this is areally interesting film once it gets going. The director obviously hasa passion for modern British film that makes it very dark but notdepressing and after the first 15 minutes your set firmly on the edgeof you seat. Some of the acting is not great but it doesn't spoilthings as the concept is so intriguing. If you love films you cant notlike this. Hope you enjoy this as much as i did. you can stop readingthis review now as i am only padding it out to meet the minimumrequirements of ten lines. |

IncomprehensibleI won't say it's a bad movie. No. I did not get anything in thisoffbeat story. But unfortunately, it's too sophisticated to be properlyfollowed . Maybe I am not clever enough. And there are many of thiskind of features these days. A sort of new fashion in the movieindustry. The film makers want you to think in a very intense way, theywant to show us stories that are unusual. That's not bad, but if onlyhalf the audience can understand them, it's worthless...I know it's in the new topics around here to talk about zombies in asort of post apocalyptic world, so the film can be more easily sold tothe distributors. After 28 DAYS - and WEEKS - later, how many featureshave we seen about zombies? Hundreds of them. LAST SEVEN is an interesting feature, well made, but for intellectualsonly. |

Interesting movie, very weird...I have only just finished watching this movie...It is a very gripping and interesting movie, though a bit weird. It's the type of movie, if you were asked 'what's it about?', you wouldfind it hard to answer as you would have no choice but give the plotand the twists away...I found it quite intellectual and full of weird things happening whichdon't make sense until the end, be prepared for a huge twist.I didn't find the movie particularly scary, though some definitelywould.I have only seen two of the cast before and one of the cast has a cameostyle role... All in all the cast did a reasonable job at the partsthey had to play. The special effects were believable, there is an explosion which looksquite real and the blood / makeup looks good...Overall the film is not the best film I've ever seen, however there isenough here to keep you gripped and interested throughout.I am giving this movie a 7 out of 10. |

Worth watchingFirst off all Danny Dyer fans might be disappointed as his characterhas very little time on the screen. You can ignore the claim by Ty Power that the film tells the story of acataclysmic event that leaves only 7 remaining people on earth andtheir desperate struggle to understand the events as they are huntedone by one by a demonic power. All we know right up until the end is that the 7 people find themselvesin one small part of London that is completely deserted and they don'tknow why they are alone or how they got there. It's true that some ofthem are hunted by Danny Dyer as "the Angel of Death" but the clue isin the name "Angel" not demon.Mostly the acting is good and Ronan Vibert deserves a mention as hestood out from the others, but the Henry Chambers character justdoesn't cut it and I cannot tell if that's because the acting is belowpar or he had a poor script. Whilst on the subject of the script why isit that every film Dyer is in, the F**K word has to be repeated so manytimes. It is sometimes needed because Gosh or Blast is not enough butall too often it appears as nothing more than a filler to be usedwhenever the writer cannot be bothered to write. Perhaps Dyer has aclause that says any film he is in "must have a F**king F**K word everyF**king three or four F**king words" There are a couple of twists atthe end which add to the film and I would happily watch this again onequiet afternoon when nothing else was on. |

The end....Film tastes vary greatly, I am aware of this. Films that I love havebeen described to me as "boring" many times over the years. 'Rushmore', 'The chaser', 'Halloween', all apparently "too slow", or I'm toldthat "noyhing happens". Well THIS is a movie where absolutely nothinghappens for the entirety of it's excruciating running time (anythingbetween 85 mins and a couple of months, depending on how you quantifytime). I really have never been so bored in my life, it's as if UweBoll found a discarded script by Terence Malick and didn't really getit. Flashbacks featuring Danny Dyer crop up to piece together thesupposed plot and it's final twist, and in the hope that all would berevealed and I could switch this piece of garbage off, I welcomed everyscene that Dyer appeared in. And I never, ever thought I'd say that. Itwas not very good. |

Well worth a look.I found this to be an enjoyable film, well acted, filmed and with anintriguing story which takes some time to develop and also to fullycomprehend. The scenes showing a London devoid of people were amazingly well doneand set the tone and feel of the film rather well. This film did however, in my opinion, seem to borrow heavily from twoother films, 28 Days Later and the New Zealand film entitled The QuietEarth. To be fair, any film set in London where the population hasdisappeared is going to inspire comparisons to 28 Days Later. If you are looking for an action based film like 28 Days Later you willbe disappointed, this film centers around the effects on survivorsrather than horror, although there is an underlying threat ever presentthroughout the film. The ending contained a little bit of a twist but it made sense whentaken into context with the rest of the film. In conclusion, I wouldhappily watch this again. |

An entertaining thriller!I enjoy thrillers and twists and after reading the other reviews wasconsidering not watching this movie...I am glad that I ignored some ofthe other reviews because I thought this movie was brilliant. There isviolence but not to an excessive degree and you have to pay attention, but all in all the buildup of suspense is good and the story isoriginal. The cast is small but the acting is good and the scenes of adeserted City of London are excellent. The only thing that I didn't getwas the last scene and at the beginning, a figure darts across the backof the scene that I thought might be part of the story, but it didn'tseem to develop. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys thrillers. |

audio-visual cyanideLets cut to the chase here, this is quite a bad film; in much the sameway that Hitler was quite a naughty boy.Its sole redeeming features are the initially interesting shots ofLondon. After 10 minutes of nothing but however i found myselfdesperate for some actual drama and character interaction. Not in this film you don't! Armed with a woefully clumpy and clichédscript, the actors manage the impressive task of actually worsening itin the delivery.Philips chooses to adopt random unconvincing shouting as his tactic ofchoice, often cunningly contrasted with whispers, presumably to try andshake any remaining audience from the inevitable coma they will haveslipped in to.Meanwhile the usually dependable Hassan vainly tries to rough it andgritty up the tension a bit, only to realise he's inexplicably trappedin a film thats so soporific, it not only couldn't fight its way out ofa paper bag, it would shatter every bone in its frail lifeless bodyupon the slightest hint of contact. The only thing that actually piqued my interest (sadly for all thewrong reasons) was Mawson's turn as Henry. His ridiculous ham-fistedsloshing and bizarre facial extremes were only enhanced by his deliveryof every line as if he were shortsighted and reading it off a cue cardfor the first (and hopefully last) time. This is tripe that gives stomach lining a bad name. As a nation wesupposedly produce the finest actors and writers in the world, so whatare these gormless half-wits doing on the big screen gleefully kickingthis festering equine corpse? Avoid this film, unless you are eitherrelated to someone associated with it, or suffering from insomnia.Cynical maybe, but then so is a C- grade short stretched to a feature, with Danny Dyer hired to front it, whilst playing less of a prominentrole than the girlfriend of its creator.Lord have mercy. |
