Hosted by Orson Welles, this documentary utilizes a grab bag of dramatized scenes, stock footage, TV news clips and interviews to ask Did 16th century French astrologer and physician Nostradamus actually predict such events as the fall of King Louis XVI, the rise of Napoleon, the assassination of President John F. Kennedy? And are there prophecies that have yet to come true?

Nostradamus predicts the World Trade center disaster...You can clearly see that Nostradamus predicts the World Trade Centerdisaster. And he speaks of an arab from the middle east who will bring onthe 3rd World War that will last for 27 years. (Osama Bin Laden?).Considering he has predicted so many major events correctly I think weshould take Nostradamus words to consideration when we make our futurechoices. We can still change our childrens futures. Of course, he could bewrong, but is that a chance you`re willing to take..? |

Don't let it worry you! This movie and I have a very interesting history. I first heard ofNostradomus when I watched an "In Search Of.." special on his life andtimes. They said he predicted King Henry's death in a jousting tournamentand all kinds of other things. I remember watching this film in the 1980sand it scared me to death, especially the part in the end about the thirdAnti-Christ, the evil Warlord in a blue turban who will start WWIII. WhenSaddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in 1990, I read an article that said he wasthe third anti-Christ and it scared me even more. I served in Desert Stormwith the National Guard and I can remember all the time I was over there Ithought the world was going to end just like it showed in this ridiculousfilm, I about drove myself crazy worrying over nothing! My father alwaysused to tell me that I was foolish even thinking about Nostrodomus. Wellanyway, I read a book on this prophet by a man named James Randi and hepointed out that Nostrodomus was really a fraud. His predictions are sovague that they can be twisted and turned to mean almost anything. Allright, he talks about something called Hister in his predictions, in thismovie they try to make it out like he predicted the rise of Adolf Hitler. But if you do a little bit of studying, you find Hister was the name of ariver in France! Friends there is nothing to worry about! In the wake ofthese terrorist attacks, people have tried to make it out like he predictedthose as well. Dont make the mistake I did, its not even worth thinkingabout. Orson Welles has a great narrator's voice and makes the story comealive, but just watch it and laugh. Looking back, I feel so foolish that Ilet this film frighten me so much, I should have listened to myfather. |

Once you've seen this you will never forget it............I saw this video in 1984 and it has stayed with me since. It gives the most chilling prophecies of Nostradamus and even more so during this time in our great nation. I would highly recommend this as a must view. |

Very Disappointed/Why Isn't this on DVD yet?Great movie that everyone should watch if you're interested in the predictions that Nostrodamus made. Some of them very amazing especially missing Adolf Hitlers name by one letter and speaking in quatrains of his rise and fall. And predictions of JFK's assassination and describing vividly of the assassins in the grassy knoll. But you have to remember in his day he had to speak in quatrains because he could be hung for sorcery and witchcraft. But at the same time very disappointed this has not been transferred to a DVD as yet. This one is badly overlooked. I guess it is safe to assume it will never be made into a DVD. Orson Welles is great narrating this movie too I might add. But by all means pick this one up if you still have a VHS Recorder/Player. |

Don't bother except for nostalgiaI remember this being on Cinemax all the time back in the early 80s, I tapedit, and when I was in high school, I mentioned it to a teacher, and she hadme bring it in and the class watched it, and then the school libraryborrowed it and made a copy. I wonder if they still have it, they should beashamed of themselves if they show it to any more classes, I was just ateenager, but these were educated adults taking this nonsense seriously. Isaw it again recently, I remember being absolutely mesmerized by it at thetime, I'm almost embarrassed that I was ever naive enough to take this foranything more than base entertainment. The whole production is just so cheapand silly looking, and most of the predictions haven't panned out, I'm sureNostrodamus was a slick talking con man of his time, sort of like SylviaBrown now, just say a lot of vague things and hope people overlook it whenyour wrong. All of that being said, Orson Wells has a great presence, and healmost makes this tripe seem plausible, if you close your eyes. If you sawit way back when, it's kind of fun to revisit it and goof on it, but you'venever seen it, there's no need to. |

This was interestingI remember watching this program when I was a little boy around 10years old and it freaked me out talking about all these predictionsthat were yet to happen....from time to time over the years they wouldshow this on t.v. and you would be amazed of how MUCH of those thingscame true...they showed this program again a few months after 9/11 andI was freaked out at how much relating to the middle east had comethru...there is a part of how a prince from the middle east would startthe next world war by bombing the NEW CITY...this was very eeriewatching after 9/11 and I sat there really dumbfounded on how much hascome true since my boyhood...I don't know if this was a coincidence ornot but it was pretty close....something to think about.... |

The Man Who Saw TomorrowThis review is from: The Man Who Saw Tomorrow [VHS] (VHS Tape) I was very pleased with the movie- I ordered it for a gift and was very pleased with how easy the order process was. The movie was in excellent condition for being a used item. I would purchase this way again. My sister-n-law and I are big fans of Orson Wells and Nastradamus and enjoyed discussing all the controversy that arises from this film. We have watched it with several friends and have a lot of fun getting everyones insight into what each individual gets from it. |

Gullibility RulesI can't understand why people feel the need to have a controllinginfluence in their lives, be it God or any other channel. Why can't youtake control and responsibility for your own actions and make the worlda better place with a positive influence.Bad things happen, they have always happened and they always will. Anyevent in our recent memory will be served as a spectacular event butlooking at events in our time they are all insignificant compared tohistorical events.Hitler is always vaunted as an anti-Christ when (obviously he was adespicable tyrant) Stalin was responsible for far more suffering.Live your lives and take control of them or someone else will at yourbehest. |

The Ultimate Pseudo-Science Documentary...This review is from: The Man Who Saw Tomorrow [VHS] (VHS Tape) "The Man Who Saw Tomorrow" is the penultimate example of the late-70's, early-80's sub-genre known as the psuedo-science documentary. In this sub-genre of the documentary arena, the Unknown was a prominent feature. Topics ranged from Stonehenge to Bigfoot, from Atlantis to the Bermuda Triangle, from ESP to ancient astronauts, from the paranormal to Noah's Ark. In "The Man Who Saw Tomorrow", the topic is the grandaddy of all psychics, physician Michel de Nostradamus. What makes this particular pseudo-science offering so compelling is the presence of Mr. Orson Welles. Welles was obviously well past it here, both at his heaviest weight and yet strangely frail in appearance (Welles would pass away a mere four years after this film), but his acting is without flaw as both host and "presenter" of the film. Welles makes the case, although the case is otherwise pretty flimsy for the "predictions" and "prophecies" of Nostradamus. As others have mentioned, the writings of Nostradamus are vague enough to be interpreted many different ways, and several have been debunked, but the film is great fun nevertheless. Obviously, some cash was spent to make this a decent presentation, and on the whole, the film is darn good despite being somewhat dated. One side note of interest to film fans is that several of the "world ending" special effects on display here were culled from the George Pal sci-fi classic "When Worlds Collide". Pal would undoubtedly be pleased (as should be fans of his work), that the effects from his 1951 sci-fi opus were still impressive enough to be spliced into a film made thirty years later. |

Pitch Man for Nostradamus...Orson Welles' Legacy?Every time the world faces a disaster, somebody intones, self-righteously,"Nostradamus PREDICTED it..." Be it a flood, an earthquake, anassassination, or anything in-between, the sixteenth century French clericwrote about it, somehow, in the midst of his hundreds of ambiguousquatrains. His writings have become the nonbelievers' Book of Daniel and theRevelations of St. John the Divine, reference works almost occult in statureabout the future of the human race.As a potential source for a 'cheap buck', his writings are invaluable, asthey can so easily be twisted to mean ANYTHING, so low-budget documentariespop up frequently with "definitive" interpretations, and THE MAN WHO SAWTOMORROW is, perhaps, the most famous of the lot. Best-known for havingOrson Welles, looking suitably Satanic, as the Host/Narrator, pouring overancient documents and looking up at the camera as if he were 'channeling'Nostradamus' spirit, himself (Once a ham actor, always a ham actor...), thedocumentary jumps to stock footage of natural disasters, the Nazis,Hollywood renditions of Napoleon, and newsreels of John and Robert Kennedy, all the while stating how dictators ('Anti-Christs'), Popes, Kings andPresidents' lives and deaths were foreseen with unerringaccuracy. The problem arises when the 'future' is predicted, using his writings.Whether our world survives or falls into chaos, there has NEVER been a'fortuneteller' who predicted what lies ahead correctly. It is only AFTERthe fact that one can 'interpret' the writings to 'fit' what has happened. It reminds one of the old joke about fortunetellers...if they are soaccurate, why aren't they all rich from winning lotteries, horse races, andsuch? From Nostradamus to contemporary 'visionaries' like Jeanne Dixon, whatHASN'T happened that was 'predicted' as coming to pass always trips themup...while their supporters quickly offer excuses that we simply'misinterpreted' what was foreseen. So don't face what lies ahead with fear, when watching THE MAN WHO SAWTOMORROW...just enjoy it for the cheesy spectacle it is, and perhaps mournthe fact that non-film fans may remember Orson Welles more from his overripeperformance, here, than for CITIZEN KANE or TOUCH OF EVIL.Nostradamus probably predicted THAT, too... |

Too Bad Nostradamus Didn't Warn Us About This Film.Nostradamus. One of the most recognized historical figures of all timeobviously did nothing in his life but make dire predictions about theworld and its famous occupants. A high majority of his writings andsooth-sayings are never talked about because they were mindless babblethat never took place. Other vague writings, many believe, tell ofcircumstances and events that did indeed occur decades and centuriesafter he walked the Earth. Yawn. "The Man Who Saw Tomorrow" is a dumband immensely stupid documentary that recreates Nostradamus' dull lifeand also uses stock footage for past tragedies and potential events ofthe future. Yeah, Nostradamus' prediction of Ted Kennedy winning the1984 U.S. Presidential Election was right on target (rolls eyes). Inthis day and age, this guy would likely be one of those morons whowould get run over by a train while he was trying to foresee his futureplace in the world. Golden-voiced Orson Welles, at the twilight of hiscareer, narrates effectively. 2.5 out of 5 stars. |

Tries to be reasonable.Nostradamus' predictions are taken too seriously by some, but this video tries to be reasonable about his "predictions". Orson Wells constantly says "could have meant", meaning the video is not saying it believes everything he wrote. Some of his predictions are creepy because they are so accurate, but some of them are also very vague. Anyone with some writing talent and a reasonable mind could write what he wrote, and then somebody hundreds of years later could connect it with some world event. See if only if you are interested in Nostradamus. |

Dated - but still packs a whallop! This excellent documentary by David L. Wolper is a marvelous example of the"Mysteries of the Unexplained" style of documentary film-making (the typethat "Blair Witch" and company enjoy poking fun at). As a historicalshowpiece, it's amazingly on-the-mark (utilizing re-creation film pieces, stock Hollywood footage, and actual video/newsreels), while still wowingthose casual viewers interested in being entertained (nee, scared right outof your wits!)."The Man Who Saw Tomorrow" is the amazing story of French Physician/Scholar,Michel de Nostradamus - a pious and learned man who, through some uncannyability, had apparently predicted the events of the future with startlingaccuracy. The film examines many of his key predictions and, throughbenefit of hindsight (and a fair amount of conjecture and theorizing),examines just how accurate his predictions of the past were... Leading tothe ultimate question - what is still yet to come for usall? From the opening credits, the film immediately grabs our attention and, overthe next two hours, refuses to give it back! The opening sequence tells thestory of three grave-robbers who unseal the 200-year-old coffin ofNostradamus and find a plaque with the current month and year inside. Withthe subsequent and predicted death of one of those who disturb the grave, weare immediately intrigued, and demand to see more... and we are notdisappointed. The film tells us of the life and death of the scholar, several key eventsin his life (including a meeting with a future pope, the prediction of thedeath of the reigning king of France, and a rather amusing happenstance at adinner party). We begin to feel for, even care for, this poor chap whoseems to have powers and abilities that he does not yet fully understand. When he begins to write his verses of the visions that torment him, we arealready consumed with the thirst for additional knowledge. The story shifts to detailed examination of Nostradamus's writings, andtheir eerie similarity to actual events occurring decades (or centuries)after his death. The sequences on the French Revolution, Hitler and theKennedys give you a shiver... particularly when it is shown that both theAllied and the Nazi forces began utilizing the writings of Nostradamus invicious propaganda efforts. By the time we start seeing events from ourhere-and-now taking shape, the repercussions of the writings become all tooapparent. When the future (from a 1980 perspective) is examined, some of it islaughable (In spite of what Nostradamus said, it is highly doubtful TedKennedy will EVER be president.) and some of it is quite alarming(Predictions of floods, famines, earthquakes, global wars, and wild weatherhave, to my satisfaction, all come quite true... just not on the fullyglobal annihilative scale that we were led to believe.).The narration of Orson Welles (he of the grim rotundity and eternal scowl)is dead serious enough to induce the shakes at certain points. He's kind ofa loving grandfather who is "only telling you this for your own good", buthe still gives you the creeps. And the assorted film montages are editedtogether seamlessly, so it's difficult to tell where the true footage endsand the re-creations begin (although I doubt they had film cameras availableduring the assault on the Tuileries in 1789).I will not debate what is/is not "true" based on the information in thisfilm - that is what historians and scholars are for. And I do not deny thatNostradamus's writings are both cryptic and vague. I can only saythat:- When Band Aid, USA for Africa, Farm Aid, and Comic Relief sought to wipeout world hunger, I watched this film again.- When the massive earthquakes hit California in the late 80s, I watchedthis movie again.- When Sadam Hussein faced off against the world in the Persian Gulf War, Iwatched this movie again.- When India and Pakistan began dabbling with nuclear weapons, I watchedthis movie again.- And now that Iran is working on building long range surface-to-surfacemissile systems - allegedly with help from Russia, China, et al... Where ISthat damn videotape? As a piece of historical entertainment, "Man" is a winner. As a doomsdaywarning for the nuclear age, it's a hit. And as a frightening piece offilm-making for those who just want a good scare, this is a bona-fidehit. |

This movie is FAKE!!!!I don't even know why this movie was even made with fat Orson Welles as thehost of this documentary about a few of the predictions of Naustradamous. An astrologer in the 16th century. First of all we have no proof that thesepredictions were in fact from Naustradamus, all you have to do is read yourhistory books. Napolion, Hitler, the death of Kennedy and the fame of hisbrothers have all happened before this movie was made but it's when we getto the good part at the end is when the film becomes rediculas. AfterHaleys Comet we will face a drout, earthquakes, and starvation and thenbecome cannibals? After all.... Haleys Comet has already happened. Then wecome to WW3. This scene looks like it came from a cheezy sci-fi movie whenwe see an Arabian in a blue turban that send nuclear missles to New YorkCity and blows it up. Russia and Saudi Arabia become allys (?) and WW3 willlast for 27 years. In the end, what is left of the population will allbecome friends. All this sounds to unreal and made up by someone who justwants to put together a hoaky movie about prophacy. Most of what was"quoted" from Naustradamus was from the Bible and then it mentioned Germansand Naustradamus didn't even know what Germans were back then! Avoid thismovie and do not believe it!!! |

A primer for Nostradamus FraudI recommend this movie to ANY person who actually believes Nostradamuswas anything *other* than a fraud and a charlatan! The movie spends a lot of time explaining about how things that alreadyhappened were predicted by Nostradamus, especially the first twoanti-Christs, Napoleon and Hitler. (Although lumping poor Napoleon inwith Hitler is unfair.) Yes, those predictions make sense, if you arereally, really interpretive. It's when Welles tries to predict the future that things become dicey.Amongst things this movie predicted- Ted Kennedy would be President.(Pretty unlikely now, eh?) An Earthquake would level Los Angeles in1989 (um, nope). That a vast war would break out in the 1990's thatwould result in the rise of the "THird Anti-Christ". As near as I cantell, none of that stuff happened, although I'll admit much of the1990's is a blur to me today.Still, fun to watch Welles on his last legs pontificate... |

You don't want to watch this with the lights offI watched that movie soon after 9/11 and everyone saw Bin Laden as theMuslim warlord. It is old, let's face it, but it predicted an earthquake in SanFrancisco around 1988, something wrong when the Halley comet ran by inApril 1986 (Chernobyl disaster) and an attack on New-York by Muslimsbut the movie aid it was going to be a nuclear attack. It also predictsnatural catastrophes (Tsunami? Hurricane Katrina? El Nino?) around thetime of a conflict between America and the Muslim world. It's not ahundred percent precise but as far as interpretations of Nostradamus'predictions go, it is the most accurate I found. But you really don't want to watch that with the lights off. The horrorof the Nazi camps so well described and the future it predicts is sogrim and yet close to the truth that it's quite scary. |

predictions still to comeI saw this movie in 1998 and warned my family and friends not to benear NYC in 1999. I felt a bit foolish until 9/11 happened 2 yearslater. the date was actually based on some planetary alignmentpredicted 500 years ago. New city of man made mountains, Fireballs, Asecret leader from the middle east, terror terror terror. He further predicts that the leader will not be caught but will go intohiding and then emerge after forming an alliance with the dragon (asiannation?)If Osama bin Ladin doesn't form an alliance with (the dragon) then Iwill have to admit that this movie is just a big coincidence and cantbe used to warn us of the future. I recommend watching this movie and decide for yourself. |

Something you'll want to watch againThis review is from: The Man Who Saw Tomorrow [VHS] (VHS Tape) I saw this movie the first time 13 yrs ago. Being a horror buff, there wasn't a whole lot on film or in book form that I thought could scare me. The interpretations of the predictions were so in line with the teachings of the bible that I grew up with that I had to call my mother, 750 miles away for reassurance.I accepted her reassurance and went about my life. Even so, this movie has never been far from me. I had always intendede to purchase it but thought that it was probably no longer being sold...After seeing this movie, you will never doubt why Orson Welle's war of the world had such and impact on the people of the time. Once the goosebumps subside, you will remember his words about these prophesies, keyed by things which may have seemd innocuos before seing this film. It will cause you to noot only rethink your outlook, but the direction of the planet. |
