Plot Summary:
Deep-sea explorer Brock Lovett has reached the most famous shipwreck of all - the Titanic. Emerging with a safe believed to contain a diamond called The Heart of the Ocean, he discovers the safe does not hold the diamond but a drawing of a beautiful woman wearing it. When Brock is later interviewed on TV, he shows the drawing to the cameras, and a 100-year-old woman named Rose Calvert living in Michigan recognizes the woman in the drawing - herself! On a visit to Brocks explorer ship over the wreck, Rose tells her story of the Titanic and its ill-fated voyage. Engaged to a would-be steel magnate, Caledon Hockley, she boards the Titanics first-class suites with him her mother in Southampton. Also boarding are Jack Dawson his friend Fabrizio, after a lucky poker game wins them tickets in steerage. When Rose attempts suicide by jumping off the stern in 3rd class, Jack pulls her back onto the ship...and a bond is forged between them as Jack is invited by her into 1st-class the following day. Roses mother Cal Hockley try desperate measures to keep them apart. But that strategy goes out the window when the Titanic collides with an iceberg, and due to a design flaw begins to sink - despite being proclaimed unsinkable. Now Rose Jack must fight to stay alive, but is young Jack already doomed because of his lower status as a steerage passenger?

If you look past the media hype....its a good movie*SPOILERS, though if you haven't seen this movie, like it or hate it,you'vebeen living under a rock*Ok, I was 9 when I saw Titanic first, and maybe I was born wrong, but Iwasable to see Titanic as a good piece of film making. If you get past alltheoscars and the media hype and how many times they played that sodding songon the radio....it's just a good movie. With great performances. And afterwe all realized that Leonardo DiCaprio isn't THAT good looking...we sortofforgot about it. And of course we got sick of it, but nowadays we findourselves dusting off our VHS copies of Titanic, just to see if it matchedthe calibur of Return of the King, because they both have the same amoutofOscars. The first two hours are pretty happy, and if you're a tough critic, you'dcall it mediocre. But that last hour and a half, are PHENOMONAL. As soonasthe ship hits that iceberg, we're ready for it after being subjected toKateand Leo making love. And the special effects and the story in those last1.5hours are so tragic and so sad. I found myself caring more about the otherpassengers than Rose and Jack because you know one of emlives!I'd say the best performances in the movie is a tie between KateWinslet(Rose) and Billy Zane(Cal). Leo is good, not fabulous, but good, andwhen he uses what he's given, he does fine. Kathy Bates is awesome asMollyBrown. I've seen the deleted scenes in Titanic, and they should've kept emin, because it gives you alot more about the characters then we get.BernardHill(Captain Smith) is pretty good and so are Frances Fisher(Ruth DeWittBukater) and Gloria Stewart(Old Rose). I love Victor Garber as Mr.Andrews.Danny Nucci(Fabrizio) and Jason Barry(Tommy Ryan) are pretty promisingactors. The dialogue is pretty good.Overall Titanic is brilliant visually, and beautifully heartbreakingmentally. The high note of the whole movie: James Horner's musical score. That man is a musical god. Listen to the soundtrack, folks. i recommend#'s1,3,5,12,15. #15 especially.Titanic is a goods movie people. Get over it. |

Tragedy and Love. An True Holllywood Epic. One of the well-known ships that became an disaster at sea was theTitanic. It sank in 1912 on its voyage out to sea. Disaster struck whenthe ship hits an iceberg and cause it to sink. The passengers of theTitanic were trying to survive. Many of them died. Some of them were inlifeboats. Now, James Cameron brings the back the mighty ship. In hisfilm Titanic, an man named Jack Dawson, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Hegoes on the Titanic after winning an poker game. Also on board anbeautiful passenger, played by Kate Winslet and her fiancé, played byBilly Zane. DiCaprio and Winslet fall for each other in love as theTitanic ventures out to sea. Then, the iceberg hits the Titanic andthat is when chaos begins. Passengers are frightened as the ship slowlystarts to sink. The ship's sinking isn't about the passengers screamingand panicking, but it gives an realistic dramatization of the ship.Real documentary footage of the real Titanic appear on the openingcredits. Winslet's character Rose, now old, is played by Gloria Stuart, who remembered what happen that night. The movie's visionary of theTitanic sinking is wonderful made with the special effects. As forWinslet and DiCaprio, they have great performances as Rose and Jack. The film itself is a tragedy of what happened. Titanic is one of thebest films of 1997. An great, true Hollywood Epic. **** 4 stars. |

CHICK-FLICK ALERT!!!For those of you unfamiliar with the term chick-flick. A chick-flick is oneof those movies that appeals to bored housewives, pre-teen girls, and(professional) movie critics. You have all seen at least some of a chick-flick. Be it theVictorian-England costume drama, the Shakespere movie, or pretty muchanything starring Maryl Streep.Titanic is a major-leage chick flick.I saw this movie (once) and have to say that, while the special effects ofthe last 45 minutes were really cool, the rest of the movie was typicalchick flick. It was a bad story, combined with bad acting, bad dialog, badscript-writing, and a really bad theme song (if I hear that Celine Dion songone more time I'm gonna freakin' rip my hair out) .Now some people are gonna say to me "Oh yeah, how do youexplainthe box-office records?". Well, have you ever seen the theater line forTitanic? 99% of the patronage is young girls who keep pictures of LeonardoDiCrappio in their purses and have seen Titanic 25 times each. If you canget a pretty-boy lead coupled with a stupid, simple, tragic romance and anannoying theme song, any movie can be a blockbuster. If you are a normal guy, you probably won't like this movie. But ifchick-flicks are your favorite, enjoy. |

Good tear jerker but rotten research mar the movieI was impressed that Titanic seemed to be well researched: the characters looked good; the haircuts were appropriate; the body types were fitting. But lip stick and eye makeup are hardly acceptable in a movie laid in 1912. It so offended me that I couldn't give the movie or the video a fair viewing. I didn't find the movie immoral; I found it indifferently researched. Sloppyness offends me. END |

Titanic 3D (2012)- Absolute nostalgia !!!First of all, I was overwhelmed with nostalgia, when I learned thatTitanic(1997) is returning to theatres! It is a favourite movie ofmine, hearkening back to those years when I was a relatively young, unspoilt kid. who had no idea what the 'Big Bad World' was like( I wasan 11 year old boy when 'Titanic' was released on 'March 1998' here inIndia). I had went to see Titanic being impressed by the huge ship, thestory . My father had booked tickets at Globe Cinema Hall(EsplanadeKolkata- now closed)a week beforehand. But my mother, learning about"certain" scenes , persuaded my father to return the tickets. But asdesperate I was back then to see the film,I had quietly removed thetickets from his Office- Bag and hid it. When He learned of it, insteadof scolding me, he decided to keep the tickets. I remember feelingextremely awkward during the painting and the car scene, trying to hidemy eyes, and still daring to peer through my fingers. But Titanic movedme, totally. It was a wonderful Romantic film, and the power of loveand the inevitable tragedy had brought tears to my 11 year old selfback then. And oh, the music! I remember when the movie had finishedand the credits started rolling with the famous song, everyone wasexiting the theatre. I was stuck there , with tears frozen in mycheeks, unable to move, unwilling to leave. I felt so lost so saddened. The tag line really hit home for me- " Nothing on Earth could comebetween them" Some of my friends have found the movie to be nothingmore than a disaster picture, some have found it to be a moving lovestory that is universal. Watching the 3D version was reliving thosememories! It wasn't as affecting as it was back in '98 but it wassurely nostalgic. The 3D post-conversion was brilliant, I mean reallygood, But I imagine it to look no less better in its original 2Dversion. Though the 3D was never distracting, it felt almost as good asthat of 'Avatar'.Depth was stunning! And the newly 4K restored printsparkled with fine details. But now my BIG complaint- ("SPOILER AHEAD")- The nude-sketching scene of Rose, was unjustly, and badly censored.any instances of Kate Winslets Breast or lower torso was removed,zoomed-in, pan-scanned. Even the kiss, after Rose says thank you andtakes the painting was cut. It totally put me off. I lost my interestin watching the movie. They raped the artistic integrity of the movie, right there! It was such a beautiful and sweet scene. I read reportsthat the censor board of India passed the film uncut, hence I wasshocked to see such abominable censoring. But then this is not justIndia, this is a part of India- The state of West Bengal, and anythingcan happen here.Is a Woman's body still an object of shame??? Well Idon't know if the particular Cinema owners did that or not, which Idoubt, but still this is by all accounts unacceptable. I guess most ofyou living outside India( at least in the US, UK, Aus, Eu) are luckyenough to see the movie in an Un-Raped form. However in spite of allthis the charm of the movie remains undeniable, even after fourteenyears('98 release in India).I watched it on 10th April, 2012, exactly a hundred years after theship sailed from Southampton (April 10th, 1912). And intend on catchingit once again on the 15th: a hundred years after it sank(April 15th,1912). May all the souls who perished on the night find peace, and allthose whose lives were changed forever after the disaster. And RIPGloria Stuart ! |

It was very emotional and moving.I though titanic was very well done. You just had to feel for the people who went down with the ship. The love story helped people get involved with the story. |

a good and entertaining moviein some areas it was very strong and others weak. the dialogue representsGeorge Lucas' (episode 1&2) syndrome of completely laughable lines. theseare lines that a 9 year old girl would write. what was wrong with him? hedid so much research on all aspects of the ship and the era, but not on howpeople spoke... no one in 1918 said "hi guys"... but having said that, themovie held respect for the ship and the people that died, and the recreationof the ship and the sinking was amazing... i thought billy zane's characterand molly brown were the most interesting... 7/10. |

I try and try, but.....I have unsuccessfully attempted to watch this film four times. At threehours and fourteen minutes, it feels like it is two movies in one. Onthe one hand, it is a history movie with great details about the ship, its crew and its passengers. On the other hand, it is also a lovestory, which feels like Romeo and Juliet on a boat, but with socialclass struggles instead of family feuding. As a history movie, Titanicis a top-20 film, but as a love story it falls flat for me. Call meheartless, but this movie did not affect me. I enjoyed DiCaprio andWinslet in the film, but I felt their roles weren't fully developed, because the film had two focuses. If the film would have focused on thelove story alone, it could have been as powerful as The Notebook. |

Could have been betterI think this film is one of those, that you are afraid to criticisebecause fans will lynch you. On the other hand saying you like it isnot the coolest thing to say, especially for a twenty-something male, like myself. So here goes. The film's strengths are the scale of the film, the romance element andKate Winslet. The sheer size of this film is breathtaking and theattention to detail, which could have so easily been overlooked, easesthe path of the audience into the decadence of the era. Trapped inamongst the whirlwind is the story of two star crossed teenagers (tm)falling in love and one sacrificing himself for the love of his life.Kate Winslet is impressive a feisty, red-haired, buxom, rich girl whois trapped by a domineering boyfriend (Zane) but her leading actor, tome at least, fails to match up.Leonardo di Caprio is a good actor but looks like a little boy playingwith grown ups and does not come across as a leading man, especiallyfor a movie of this size. Billy Zane puts in a decent show as thecaddish bad guy but lacks a foil of equal stature. After all Di Capriois after his girl and to be quite honest it reminded me of the time Ihad a crush on a friend's older sister.Another fault in the film came from the dialogue. It's clunky, over thetop and made most of the actors look uncomfortable. The "salt of theearth" steerage passengers looked hammed up and during the sinking itall got a bit 'wishy washy' all over.It does OK for something to watch with your love-interest but all thetime you'll be left sitting there waiting for a)the boat to sink b)DiCaprio to die and c)the end credits. |

Titanic should have been called something elseIt is always the way in Hollywood these days, Why let history get in the wayof a blockbuster movie. Titanic has plenty of good points about it, but anystudent of the disaster could not help but be disappointed. Especially withthe glaring inaccuracies and cliches this movie had tooffer. The American's brash and almost looking like they knew the damn ship wouldsink. The British, stiff and emotionless in first class who would given the chancebe quite happy to shoot the Irish peasants on the lower decks if the wereallowed. The British lower classes were a bunch of thugs. The Poor Irish as a load of Guinness swigging biddly biddly dancing bumpkins, clearly the victims in the disaster. The point I am try to make is that the tragedy of 1912 was a multilayeredaffair, with moments of great sadness and bravery throught the two plushours of the ships sinking. I feel that James Cameron had sacrificed thisfor the love story of Rose and Jack which is a shame.I did enjoy Titanic but I thought it was a missed opportunity to show whathappened. For my money a far more moving film about the sinking of theTitanic was "A Night To Remember" with Kenneth More and Honor Blackmanamongst others. The Titanic story is a deeply emotion subject I would truly recommend ANight To Remember if you want to watch a film about the sinking of theTitanic and watch Titanic if you want to watch a Love Story. |

Why was such a fascinating story ruined? There are few stories more gripping than that of the Titanic, so why did the movie need to surround itself around a shallow, cliched love story? The characters could not have been more cardboard -- all are good or bad, corresponding to wealth. And the dialogue could not have been more wooden -- I will always laugh at "I'm the king of the world!", "Look at this use of color!", and all the trust me, go for it, lovey dovey stuff. DiCaprio delivered lines like an automoton and was completely unconvincing as a rough lad. Winslet -- playing no matter how much a free spirit -- was more a 1998 Spice Girl (middle finger at work) than a product of Edwardian society. Some great effects, but you do not survive being sucked down with a huge ship into icy waters.Cameron's moralizing about the survivors is simplistic-- swamped boats killing everyone wouldn't have made much sense.I certainly agree that "A Night to Remember" is the Titanic movie to watch. No reason to make this one, except cold hard cash.Thank goodness for Amazon -- I feel so much better having let the world know how I feel! |

A tragic historical incident, dumbed down in order to empty pockets of the MTV generation in the name of popular culture.(Spoilers)Once upon a time there was a director by the name of James. He broughtus wonderfully, thrilling science-fiction such as Terminator andAliens. These movies were the stuff blockbusters were made of and helooked to have a fantastic future ahead of him as the dawn of computergenerated special effects landed upon the film industry. Terminator 2showed gave us glimpses of what was possible in this new era........and then it happened...................1997........countlessawards..........obscene amounts of money............outlandish barrageof advertising............maximum profit margin........Titanic washere!I have never (ever) been one to jump on the bandwagon and be overlycritical for the sake of it, in fact I have often taken the oppositestance from the majority just to get an argument going. Titanic howeverwas a film I only took one single positive out of - that of KateWinslett being absolutely gorgeous throughout!Quickly - the dialogue was like something out of Beverly Hills 90210,the acting was more wooden than my nephew's tree house, images meant toterrify were actually comical (man falling from ship and hittingpropeller), historically false (don't even get me started becausethere's too much), it had dire theme music (up there with the bodyguardfor cheese) and the pointless love story was so tedious, self absorbingand pathetic that it disrespected the plight of everyone else involved(I was glad when he died and disappointed when she did not).It was plainly obvious from the word go that this picture was designedto appeal to MTV watching, bubblegum chewing, boy-with-car chasing, teenage girls (DeCaprio himself resembled something less heroic thanthe weedy member of a boy band) who would drag their sex-starvedboyfriends out for a three and a half hour chick-flick hoping to getlucky later! The worst aspect was that it did not stop at that point.Millions of dumbed down, culture vultures went to see this expensivewaste of celluloid because "it cost so much to produce it must begreat" and "Steve and Barbara said it was good and they know theirmovies". The crowning glory arrived when Titanic swept the boards at the AcademyAwards. King James of Hollywood had a serious moment of silence for thevictims of the fatal evening on which his three and a half hour farcewas based. It looked to me as if he was praying for forgiveness aftermaking a fortune off inaccurately portraying the circumstances thatlead to the death of a lot of people. However, if people are stupid and sentimental enough to buy into thiskind of rubbish they deserve to get ripped off. Good luck to Hollywoodif that is how they want to make money, I'd do it if I had those kindof chances in life!It is right up there on my all time worst movies list with other silly, historically false/human interest tripe like "The Patriot" and "PearlHarbor". |

Titanic(Contains spoilers)Everyone predicted disaster for Titanic prior to its release. However, contrary to what people anticipated, Titanic went on to capture thehearts and imagination of the world. The immense success of Titanicresulted in many thinking Titanic is now, "overrated" and some havegone as far to claim Titanic is the, "worst movie ever created". Thisbacklash against Titanic is primarily driven by one of two factors, jealously and many becoming tired of "Titanic-mania" accompanied by adesire to be different from the norm. Obviously these reasons cloud thejudgment of most of its critics and I plan to set the record straight. When Titanic was released the world was in the first years of theInternet craze. Everyone was becoming desensitized to human tragedy andwas wasting their lives away online. However, when Titanic was releasedit struck a cord with the entire planet. It reminded everyone that anyday could be your last and that you must live each day to the fullest. This is primarily what captivated the hearts and minds of the entireworld. Titanic was released at the very moment the world needed areality-check. It showed us through this brilliantly crafted film thatthere is still a need for love and compassion and that our world isstill filled with human tragedy, not just computers. For that alone, this movie must go down in history as one of the greatest movies evercreated. Another primary reason why Titanic is a phenomenal film is thewell-acted love story between Jack and Rose. The love story created anemotional doorway to the tragedy that occurred that night. As a vieweryou began to care for the characters. Through this you felt thefeelings of those who lost their lives and loved ones on this fatalshipwreck. Having these lovers come from different social classes alsoallowed the viewers to see the mentality of 1912 through two differentperspectives. It gave the audience insight into how man thought theywere above Mother Nature, how women were expected to behave and howlower classes were treated inhumanly. The love story was crucial totelling the full story of Titanic. Titanic has several others qualities that set it apart from otherfilms. Firstly, the amazing music, which set the tone for each sceneperfectly. Secondly, the outstanding cinematography that gave a varietyof different angles shown in a unique fashion, which thus allowed youto feel that you were actually aboard the ship. Thirdly, the impeccablesets and costumes gave an extremely authentic feel to the movie.Fourthly, Titanic included many interesting facts throughout the film, such as not having enough lifeboats for all its passengers, increasingmore speed regardless of ice warnings, telling us how many people weresaved from the freezing waters and other numerous facts and figures. Finally, the ending tied everything together perfectly with Rose doingeverything she promised Jack and eventually dying warm in her bed, while her soul returns to Titanic. Cameron's film was flawless for it blended past and present perfectly, while telling the story of Titanic in its entirety. This film deservesthe 11 Oscars it received (including Best Picture) and achieving theworldwide position of the 3rd highest grossing film of all time(inflation included). Those who tell you Titanic is undeserving areflat out wrong. Titanic revived what was lacking in the new age of theInternet and reminded us that we must make each and every day count. |

I AM NOT A SHEEP!I was reading the comments and someone said that people who don't like thismovie are jealous."Don't ask me of what, they just are." HA! How can youPROVE it!? What could we possibly be jealous of ?!?I saw Titanic with high hopes, since nobody would SHUT UP aboutit.Afterwards,I realized they should've clammed it long before it was evenreleased. It was horrible.Lots of better movies that year (Good willhunting,LA confidintal) and the only reason they liked it was because ofLEONARDO.I hope he falls of a very tall cliff.I now don't trust hype.Theynever like good movies."OOo,but it won 11 oscars,so it has to be good!" Yeah,it won special effectsadwards.NO acting or screenwriting. And it won best picture becauseadolescent teens would boycott them if it didn't.Do you REALLY want to see amovie adored by TEENAGERS!? Face it,only a few people have good taste, sopopular things stink to high heaven.Don't see it,because if you do you'll be labeled as a sheep in my school(Youhear that? School. We Lamar people hate this movie.)I AM NOT ASHEEP! |

WOW!I went to see the film not knowing what to expect. I'm not a fan of romanticfilms but everyone had been recommending the film so I went and I have tosay it is amazing. An emotional mix of watching while knowing. As Jack andRose get increasingly closer you know the fate that awaits and it starts youthinking of ways they could have avoided it. It's one of those films thatremains close to your heart forever.Excellent acting from the whole cast, especially DiCaprio and Winslet. Somescenes which come to mind include the dining room scene, Rose communicatesto Jack on a level that the other actors don't even sense, a sentence whichis echoed on page 95 of "James Camerons Titanic" It is a film that will haveyou hooked and on the edge of your seats. The length helps you to really getto know the charecters and connect with them and I hate to admit it but thisfilm has turned me into an addict.I had never heard of James Cameron as much as I do now and I'd just like tosay GOOD JOB!! |

Very good film. *minor spoilers*Titanic is a beautiful and thoughtful movie. One thing bothers me.. theoverly dramatic dialogue between Jack and Rose. It's sooo disgusting attimes. Why can't they talk like normal people? Rose: "Oh Jack, (insertmelodramatic line)". Jack: Oh Rose, (insert melodramatic response)". Otherthat that, I have very little bad to say about this. Cameron builds thetension between the characters and the ship beautifully and by the timeTitanic's doom is approaching faster and faster, the film turns into a very"beautiful" survival story. The part when the ship breaks in two isespecially dramatic. One more thing, Cameron is known for his larger thatlife action movies, and it is obvious that this time around he's triedsomething else. But let's be honest.. the last hour on the Titanic is justone brilliant action scene. It's just in his nature, why fightit?***** / ***** |

Not without flaws...The special effects of this film are some of the best I have seen in amovie. The great Titanic slipping under the waves, the people stayingaboard for as long as they can, the individual stories of the famouspeople that were really on the ship (Molly Brown for example), TheCapitans refusal to slow the ship down due to iceberg warnings and soon. Most of us know the story of the great liner that sank on that coldApril night. Taken as that alone James Cameron's film is a masterpiece. You really feel like you are on the real Titanic with the people of thetime. The problem I have with this film is Leonardo DiCaprio. Say whatyou want but I feel he was mis-cast. He does not even try to act in away you would expect a man of 1912 to act with his squeaky voice, saying things like horse-^*@% and I know how the world works. In otherwords he acts like he just came from a day at the beach. Kate Winsletis better in her role as Rose Bukater but I would have preferred adifferent actress. She plays the part mostly as someone who needs togrow up. The love affair between the two main characters is notbelievable and serves only as a distraction. Granted just showing thehistory of the famous ship with the people who were really there wouldhave been boring for most young viewers without some modern story theycould relate to. In this case a cheesy love story. Aside from that thisfilm pretty much works. I watched it for the story of the Titanic andthe actions of the crew that night, and the mistakes that were madethat lead up to the disaster. Cameron crafted this part of the film soyou felt that you were really there. Jack Dawson and Rose Bukaterseemed out of place.... |

i loved this movie!!I am a big Leo fan and to tell you the truth half the reason i went tosee the movie in the first place was because he was in it! but now thati have seen it, it doesn't really matter that he's in it. i mean don'tget me wrong he was absolutely fantastic in this movie, but it's goodno matter what! and i will give James Cameron major props!! bravo! ithought this movie was a major tear-jerker! i cried most at the veryend where it shows "rose" an old woman warm in her bed, and it'sshowing all of her pics.; and i thought it was so sad when it showedthe pic. of her riding side-saddle (like he was gonna show her) on thesurf, and there were roller coasters behind her (remember they talkedabout riding on them until they threw up!lol.)i guess the reason ithought it was so sad was because she kept her promise to him for allthose years. i mean she survived and went on even when it seemedhopeless, she had babies, and she died an old woman warm in her bed. ithink it is one of the best movies i have ever seen!! it's number oneon my favorites list!! |

good but not the bestComments like "this is the best film I've ever seen" etc... are very oftenheard but I think that such opinions are very shallow as is this love storyabout Winslet and Di Caprio. People who say that this is the best moviethey''ve ever seen can't have been seen lots of movies. "Titanic" has great special effects but the story itself is very predictibleand the characters are very vague and undefined and they don't develop atall during the film. Characters don't live through the movie. The best film of the 1997 is of course "L.A. Confidential" and it is shamethat it didn't get more Oscars. But that's life. Experience says that mostoftenly the best movies of a year don't get so many Oscars. |
