Plot Summary:
After six months at sea on an unassisted solo circumnavigation, Georgia Perrys 44-foot sloop is becalmed for several days. Cabin fever sets in, and the border between fact and fantasy begins to distort. But if these are just tricks of the mind, how do these encounters leave Georgia with physical manifestations?

DullThe movie focues on Georgie sailing around the world while getting cabin fever and seeing her dead mother and father, other relatives and I guess pirates. Nothing in the movie was cool or spooky and little to no real violence no sex or nudity. The movie was very dull and boring. 2/10. |

A fine psychological thrillerIt's interesting that so many reviews of this film rate it poorly.Whilst I'd not give it 10 stars, it's certainly worth 7. The script isfine, the acting good, the direction and production OK - what's not tolike? I guess a lot of the people who don't "get" this film were eitherexpecting something quite different, or else they are not sailors. Thegeneral plot has been covered here several times so I won't repeat itagain at length - it is a simple situational thriller in which a lonesailor, becalmed in the Indian Ocean, begins to experience vividhallucinations. These are at least partly in reaction to the death ofboth her parents whilst her round the world single-handed attempt wasunder way. Were the "visitors" real? No, of course not - not one - they are allcomplete fantasies. Lone sailors frequently experience vivid, lucidhallucinations during long voyages. Watch "Deep Water", the recentbio-pic about the Golden Globe trophy in 1968, to get a taste of thisin real life. One competitor went totally nuts and jumped overboardafter creating an elaborate hoax regarding his position - another sawand talked to Bing Crosby whilst in the middle of the Atlantic! It'sold news. What made the film gripping for me was the realization that, isolatedas she was, her own mind was her greatest enemy. At one point she jumpsoverboard to escape imaginary pirates, and only comes back to hersenses once on board again. Another time she sets fire to the boat tofight the "visitors". That's REAL terror - the knowledge that in anisolated and totally self-sufficient environment, you may do yourselfor your only means of survival real damage during an hallucination. Theone person you can absolutely trust, yourself, is suddenly someone tobe feared. Truly terrifying, more so than any ghost story, and theactual point of the film. The end is sound and not at all muddled, as some people have said. Shecomes to grips with the death of her parents, most importantly byrealizing that she was not to blame for the accident that left herfather crippled or for her mother's eventual suicide. Her boyfriend isapparently unfaithful and her sponsor for the race has backed out. So,she does the best thing possible - she crosses the finishing line andthen without stopping turns around and sails on to new horizons in NewZealand, perhaps to find the man with whom (it is hinted) she had arelationship before leaving on her voyage. Her mental stability is restored, and she's ready for life again, symbolized by her cat no longer "talking" to her, but just being anormal cat. Those who don't "get" the ending probably prefer simplisticendings where everything works out happily ever after for everyone. Gowatch a Disney film instead - you'll probably prefer that. |

The Visitors Imaginery FriendsThis movie is eerie style, which almost fits an illusionary profile of psychology-thriller. The movie is confusing at the start, and continues to make the watcher feel confused throughout the movie, yet as the scenes come together, it seems more real and plotted well. If you want a movie that peeks curiosity, then this movie will definately peek your mind to want to see what happens...Some compare the movie to "ghost ship," yet I cannot see the comparison entirely at this point. |

Better than I thoughtWhen I rented this movie, I thought it would be a cheesy scarefest, but I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. It had some admirably freaky moments with the mother, and although I wouldn't really call it a thriller, I liked the character development. I even thought there were moments reminiscent of Dead Calm. I wouldn't give it two thumbs up, but for $5.99, I would definitely buy it. |

worst s**t movie I ever sawEverything with this movie was truly awful. How the hell can it be aloud to do these kinds of ***** movie? It started slow, and to my surprise it just got slower. it had nothing, a thriller should be thrilling, this wasn’t. |

Psychological Thriller of "Pitch Black"s Radha MitchellRadha Mitchell (quite impressive in "Pitch Black" against Vin Diesel) stars in this Australian psychological thriller. The co-stars include Suzannah York ("Superman II") and an Aussie veteran Ray Barrett. The director is Richard Franklin, possibly best known so-so thriller "Psycho II."Georgia Perry (Radha Mitchell) is on the last log of the first sole female around-the-world cruise by a yacht. She is not to set foot on the land during the course, and if she uses the engine, she is disqualified instantly. But now her yacht is not moving at all, because of the dead calm that seemingly stopped everything around the ship. She can only talk to her cat (her only partner), and to the finace waiting for her in Australia through the radio. However, Georgia hears some strange sound, and sees the figures of the person(s) who should never be on board. What does that mean?"The Visitors" is not a horror film. The film actually tries to include many factors -- thrills, symbolism, meaning of life, etc. -- and achieves none of them. The reference to poetry (S.T. Coleridge) is clumsy or insignificant, and the frequent flashbacks to the heroine's past only detract the claustrophobic suspence of the story. Possibly as psychological thriller it works best, but also it misses potential that the orginal premise has. Incredibly, there are many (at least three) scenes in which Radha Mitchell's character is in bikini (but her skin does not seem tanned much). How the filmmakers thought about the scenes, I leave it to you, but it certainly does not hurt. Radha Mitchell shows pretty good acting as the lead, and her meeting with her beloved dad (Ray Barrett) is even touching. Suzannah York's nervous mom is also convincingly portrayed, so while watching I started to think that the filmmakers should have thrown away any "horror" part of the film, and the end result would have been much better. As it is, "The Visitors" remains as it is, just an OK thriller. If you really want to see a thriller on the lonely boat, see the Aussie film "Dead Calm" starring Nicole Kidman and Billy Zane. That was really scary. |

A rendezvous with fearFirst of all, 'Visitors, The' is not a common thriller. Far from that, the movie tells us a story about the rendezvous of a young yacht-woman(Mitchell)in a solitaire voyage around the world in a little boat withher own problems, griefs, fear and misunderstandings of a whole life.In this process, her mind derived away in a dangerous way, in which sheis confronted with hallucinations involving her deceased parents, astrange lover and even her only companion in the trip - a cat named'Taco' - starts to 'talk' to her. Good premise, even an intelligentone, but the movie lacks an indispensable deepness that the story mustclaim. Because of that, the result is a bit too contrived, notpassionate or challenging. In fact, after some time in front of the TV,you'll feel a certain disappointment because a good idea was justmistreated. Radha Mitchell is good but her competence and her beautyare not strong enough to make this one a remarkable movie. |

Keeps you guessingThis film grabs you right from the opening. You never know what is real, and what is imagined, and the visual mood is stunning. |

Ought to be called 'Ghosts on a Boat'. That alone would make it more enjoyable.Visitors is a hard, hard movie to enjoy. It's so slow and leaden init's pacing that at times I was drifting off during the film. This wasabout 11AM on a hot, sunny day, I might add, not midnight on a coldwinter evening, so you get an idea of just how slow this movie is.Strange thing is, it's not long. At 100 minutes it's only ten minuteslonger than the average straight to video, and it's only fifteenminutes longer than the superior Darkwolf that I'd quite happilywatched the day before. It just drags an awful lot, enough for you tolose interest. When it's not mistaking S-L-O-O-W development for atmosphere, Visitorsis good enough at action to almost make it excusable how slowly thingshappen. While the flashbacks are both cheap and annoying as a way toround out Radha Mitchell's boats-woman, the hauntings/aliens/whateverare actually quite creepy and effective, especially when her suicidalmother turns up and starts groaning in the night. Full marks for notsplurging make-up all over the shop too. The single person boat is acreepy place, and at times the movie uses the full power of thelocation and the deserted sea to scare the hell out of you.Still though, I find it hard to recommend Visitors. I came out of itnot only feeling like I'd just watched a 4 hour film, not a 100 minuteone, but also feeling like I'd been cheated somehow, as while offeringmany explanations as to the hauntings (Mind games? Real ghosts? Spacealiens?) Visitors doesn't pick one for definite. All that watchingRadha Mitchell talk to her cat and Dominic Purcell smoulder for noobvious reason about some unexplained horrific event in the past, fornothing?. Say what you like about Shyamalan, but at least he tells youwhat happened, however crazy/stupid you might think it. If you don'twatch a lot of these movies, your fresh perspective will probablyimprove matters somewhat, but I found this slow, boring and highlyderivative. If you want to scare yourself silly there are much betterplaces to do it, if you want a clever thriller there are many that aresmarter. |

Average boat trip"Visitors" has got a strong and likable lead. Being a fan of `Pitch Black'Idecided to check this one out at the Fantasy Filmfest. The premise ispromising and the atmosphere on the isolated sailing boat comes acrossnicely. At the theatre the surround sound is very effective becausemysterious noises come from different directions. The film isn't boringbutit isn't new and original either. The ending is disappointing so my ratingis a solid 5. I expected a tense psycho thriller, but it isn't veryexciting. You've seen everything in other and better filmsbefore. |

Boring...awesome...dumbSpoiler Alert!!The back of the movie is what drew me to it, but it was the ending thatsankthis boat. I mean, come on, a movie about a woman at sea, is experiencingpossible "hallucinations" (of her mom and a sailor to name a few), butthese"hallucinations" can actually touch and hurt her. Is it aliens? Is itghosts? No...(spoiler here) it's some type of spider creature that is atthebottom of her boat that is doing this? I'm sorry, the movie startedboring(background on how she ended up on the boat (but we needed this, Iunderstand)), then came the action, then to practically end it all withthese "spiders". The director should have had this movie viewed by anaudience, and once the boos came when the spiders showed up, he shouldhaveredone the ending. |

pretty darn goodI liked this one. It's a phantasmal little movie about a woman sailingalone around the world, becalmed in the Indian Ocean when she's only a fewdays' sail from the end of her trip. She starts to see all kinds of strangeand troubling things on board her yacht, including the ghost of her mother, pirates that appear and disappear, and a Maori tribesman in traditionalnative costume. The movie offers three possible explanations for why thisis happening: A) she's been alone too long and is going bazongas, B) she'sreally seeing ghosts, and C) the magic crabs hitching a ride on the boat'shull are creating the whole situation. I like the crab theory myself, butthe movie leaves the question tantalizingly unresolved. |

1.5 stars out of 5It takes a brave horror fan to watch this movie, because yes, it is as lame as the DVD cover. It's somewhat interesting through the first 40 or so minutes, then you can't wait for the damn thing to just end. |

OK thrillerNot so much a horror flick as a psychological thriller, as a young womanbegins hallucinating on a long solo sea voyage. She starts to see (andcommunicate with) her dead mother, her soon-to-be-deceased-and-leglessfather (with his legs grown back), a bunch of Malaysian pirates and evensome oversized spiders that appear to be right out of LOST IN SPACE. Danger,Will Robinson! Or in this case, Wilhemina Robinson! Oh, and she her cat talkto each other -- mentally, of course. The cat sounds a little like the catfrom SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH. A tad far-fetched, and stretched to fill outa theatrical running time that it maybe didn't deserve, VISITORS willcertainly appeal to anyone who has ever made a solo sojurn of any length andisolation. Similar to DEADCALM in an odd sort of way. Radha "Pitch Black"Mitchell gives a bravura performance as the lonely lass with the classy ass-- it doesn't hurt that she spends most of the flick in bra and panties or avery tiny bikini. She has one absolutely hysterical scene where she mocksher sponsor, a cosmetics company that forces her to change the name of hervessel to the company's name. Lots of flashbacks and at times herhallucinations result in an awful lot of people crowding aboard her tinyyacht. So the cast is considerably larger than one might expect for what isessentially a Robinson Crusoe-type of tale. |

Eh...pretty weird.I saw this on movie last night, and it was pretty weird. There's this girl, Georgia I think her name was, who sets out on a Yacht journey or something, not quite sure. But on the way, there's lots of flashbacks. From what I could make out, she put her mother in a mental institution, and her father was in hospital. On her journey, she communicates telepathically with her cat, her mother, (who is dead) keeps returning as a ghost, trying to kill her/get her to commit suicide. Then she comes in contact with a bunch of Malaysian pirates, she kills one of them, and then they all start coming back, and then spider crabs etc..It's just one weird movie, storyline is crap, acting is pretty good, visuals, quite realistic, fits the mood.I don't understand why the TV network gave it an AV rating (equivalent to MA15+ or R18+). The most violent scene was probably where she found that pirates head under her boat. |

A first rate psychological thrillerI went into watching this movie with little expectations except for the Rahda. She was the reason I saw this movie. So far she has never let me down. Again, she has made a killer movie. The amount of everything in this movie is outstanding. This movie deserves a theater release, but unfortunately it will never get that. This movie is up there with some of the best this year. |

A little to like, and not like....The cinematography is pretty good in this movie. The talking cat is not. The lead actress does a nice job. The story line does not make much sense. The sea spiders are cool. The "back from the dead" mom is creepy. And the end of the movie leaves you scratching your head. There are some pretty tense suspenseful momments in the film. Hmmmm 2.5 stars |

Great DeceptionWhile facing the challenge of sailing alone around the world in onehundred and forty days, the Australian Georgia Perry (Radha Mitchell)fights against the "ghosts" of her life in her loneliness, including anunresolved relationship with her mother and the engagement with herunfaithful fiancé."Visitors" was a great deception for me. Since "Pitch Black", I havebeen a fan of the actress Radha Mitchell and I have watched many of hermovies. Therefore, I expected that "Visitors" would be a great film.Unfortunately, the confused screenplay, using flashbacks to explain theinnermost contradictions and conflicts of the character Georgia Perry, begins with a great atmosphere and very intriguing, but does not workwell and in the end makes the movie sometimes boring and messy. Theidea is good, but the screenplay is horrible. My vote is five.Title (Brazil): "Visitors" |

A talking cat...need I say more....Actually, the movie is not half bad, hence the C rating. Visually, the movie is great. The lead actress is quite good, mate! The overall plot, if you will, and the ending are less than satisfying. It is not a total waste of time, but you'll definitely see better sea thrillers. |
